Car unsafe

by Bopseek on Jan 4, 2022
2.3 out of 5 stars

It started when I hit a bear near Clinton BC.
First, it took 2 weeks to get it to the repair center then it 6 weeks to get parts which weren't anyone's fault.
But shortly after I got the car back my abs, traction control, service transmission, steering reduced, propulsion power were reduced. I have a record that all of this came up right after my accident. Now ICBC is saying that how can I prove that it's not a manufacturer's defect. Basically, the car is not safe to drive now because of the snow and icy weather. The NEW ICBC is no better than the old one.

Having an agent answer a call takes forever when they only work business hours only. How is anyone suppose to talk to anyone when they have the worst hours possible

Starts well, ends very poorly

So had a collision (non-fault) resulting in a total loss claim. All ok during the initial reporting and notifications process and once acknowledged as non-fault a hire car was duly provided quickly. Fast forward a few days and the settlement offer comes through, not too bad really but a couple of bugbears and errors in the report so managed to get slightly more in the end. Again ok, except that you can tell they don't want to pay anything more than originally offered. Now at this point I ask, 'So how long have is the grace period for the hire car' to be told, Oh now you've had a settlement offer (not agreement or actually received the money) you have 3 days to return the car. Wow... one I haven't accepted this offer and two I don't have the money, how do I get a new vehicle and what do I do in the meantime? Apparently, that isn't their problem as I knew it was a total loss so should have been looking at cars already...hang on I haven't got the money so how do I get a new car? so I wasn't happy to have no car access with weekends away planned etc! Fast forward another week and I still haven't had the settlement check delivered and when I chased this up they said 'if it's still not there in a week call us again, but it has been issued'. Very very poor customer service and do not feel looked after at all. Would expect the hire car to be kept until at least the settlement money has been deposited in the bank. Also on the follow-up call, I was advised I could have had a direct transfer payment, something I was not even made aware of initially.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Just a mushed up door.....

My car was written off for an accident that was 0% my fault... I just lost my only transportation to and from work, so now I have lost the work too. When you see the homeless on the street, maybe ICBC wrote their car off for a minor fender bender because of its age... I drove my car another 1,000 kms before turning it over to them. Now I will go find my self a cardboard box for my family. Evil Corporation to say the least.

Awful system

The terrible antiquated company with too many storefronts and an awful system. There is no way to get an insurance quote anymore. I was told by an ICBC employee that you must buy a vehicle before finding out what it will cost to insure. Also when renewing you must pay for 3 months minimum and if you cancel before the 3 months is up its costs $30!

Thieves

ICBC is the biggest scam in BC history. Pay your money to them for YEARS without any tickets or any issues at all, then BAM - get a ticket. Not only do you pay for the ticket itself...but then you pay a DPP penalty depending on how many points your tickets for the year incurred THEN, on top of that, you also get an increase to your insurance. So for the two tickets I received in the last 12 months ($365 and $165), I had to pay the tick amounts, $360 DPP penalty fine, and an extra $100 on my insurance for the year...so we're talking $1000 paid total so far, and the tickets themselves were only $530 of that. Unbelievable...especially considering before these last 12 months, I hadn't received a single ticket in several years. Not one single ticket. Not one single accident I was at fault for. Nothing. Such a joke of a company.

Outrages Rates

I have a conservative 2010 Honda Civic. My ICBC insurance renewal arrived and I am being charged $1532 for a year's worth of insurance, with "congratulations - you've earned a total estimated savings of $1490...". I am 72 and have a clean driving record. $1532 is ridiculous. Can you imagine if the $1490 "discount" had not been applied? ICBC is a rip-off, a money grab. Why should they be the only game in town? Open up BC to other insurance companies for competition.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

ICBC is a scam. We cannot get competative rates as they are the only game in town. One minute we hear how claims are down, then the exec's get a bonus followed by rates going up! Stop the dictatorship and allow competition in all forms of auto insurance.
