The true measure of an insurance company is how well the claims process goes. My daughter had 3 vehicle accidents in the space of one and half years and each claim was handled smoothly. A rental vehicle was arranged for me right away and my vehicle repaired/paid out within one to three months. I thought my premiums would sky rocket (because 2 or the 3 accidents were at fault) but they went up by a small amount. I'll be with Johnson for a while. I rather have confidence in a claim been paid out than jump from insurer to insurer looking for a 'deal' on premiums.
Would never recommend this company to anyone, ever! After the long wait just to speak to someone, do not expect your time, business, and interest to be appreciated. They erased, or lost, my insurance history when I was previously insured with them; trying to attain insurance records from them is near impossible, and do not expect to be treated as a person over the phone, no matter how many people you talk to. For a company that charges a hefty premium rate to their non-valued customers, it is not worth your time when there are guaranteed (from personal and friend's experience) BETTER and CHEAPER insurance companies out there.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
My husband has been with these guys for many years... we ended up finding a better rate and someone we could talk to in person. We called to cancel and asked if there is anything else we need to pay. She answered no. I now have a 1.73.53 cent bill and 2 bounced payment fees. Happy I got my husband out of this place! They will be getting it thrown right back.
What a joke!.....Worst service ever....Best advise I can give people, call other insurance companies....guaranteed the rates will be competitive, and service will be a lot better. These huge call centers make it impossible. (If I could put NO STAR rating I would)
My wife and I have held home and auto insurance with Johnson Insurance (Unifund) for 10+ years. In that time we've had three auto claims for two not-at-fault accidents and one windshield repair. Each time a claim was necessary, the service was excellent. Our rates increased minimally three years ago and, since then, have decreased by $6, $100 and $210 respectively.
Our policies renew next month and I am shopping around for rates elsewhere. Only one company has been able to beat Johnson's rates with similar coverage. Despite my 10+ happy years, I may switch to save money (i.e. 40%).
I had a total loss claim for which I was deemed at fault. From my initial call, to the subsequent four adjusters I spoke to, all but one were wonderful. I was able to get ahold of all adjusters (except the one) immediately, and they were quite pleasant, considering the circumstances. I am still working through the injury/liability parts of the accident, but in terms of the car replacement - the no-charge "depreciation add-back" meant that I got the full value of the car that we paid almost a full year ago - and it was less than 2 weeks from the day of the accident to the day my claim cheque arrived, during which time the rental car was paid for. Impressive.
My one concern is that I was given a ticket (although the officer advised me to fight it, which I am), so we will see how that affects my insurance on renewal - although my accident forgiveness was intact, so I won't be dinged for the accident itself.
Overall, they're a bit more expensive than some other places (but not many), but they're very worth it. I'll be recommending them to everyone I know that needs insurance.
After that guy hit my car, this company made the claims experience very easy and worked with my dealership to make sure I got my car back quickly.
Johnson's is great. The co-op I had more experience with for at least 25 years wasnot so helpful when I bought a new car and had to keep my old one for 3 more days. They wanted to charge me for having two cars, so I switched.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
Have not had experience with claim, but at this point, am pleased with the coverage and the agent handling my account
We called to ask them a question about our car. In all the years we've had insurance, we have never made a home or auto claim. The person we spoke with proceeded to open a claim which goes on our insurance record, a claim we were not told about, a claim we never made nor did we take any money for. I have spent three months trying to get this removed from our record. I have been met with seven different representatives. They were rude and basically told me there's nothing they can do about it. Interestingly, I ran into someone else this happened to, who remarked: "never call them to ask any questions or they will open a claim and you can't get it closed". This is someone who didn't even know our situation! Their practices are unscrupulous. Never trust them. We are leaving Johnson Insurance, making a formal complaint to the Ombudsman, and talking to our MP. Our insurance will go up because of this claim that was made without our knowledge and that stays on our record. They are doing this on purpose to raise your rates.
