I had 1 claim in 20 years - someone uses my vehicle and cause a small scratch and crack to fender on truck get mail saying cancelling collision cause of 2 claims in 4 years lol I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. There impossible to get ahold of and just runs you around had to call a supervisor which then gives you a number to call leave a message still no callback. It's a very poor company.
Paid a hefty amount for car insurance, spoke at 2 accounts about early cancellation just 15 days before policy cancellation and was charged a significant amount for not continuing policy with them when I'm leaving Ontario. They just love to steal people's hard-earned money.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
Very bad insurance company. I've been with them for 3 years. I bought my second car they increased by $400. I got a good deal from another company which is $175 less than this terrible insurance company took from me. Don't go with this company - 330$ (and their terrible complicated penalty fee of $800), the penalty for cancelling my insurance. I've cancelled it, now relaxed... I was totally depressed with this huge amount, they don't know the value of hard-earned money...
We had home/auto/recreational vehicle insurance with Johnson Unifund, for 6 years. I was rear-ended (no-fault) first incident I've ever had having to make an insurance claim in 40 years of driving. I was assigned a claims person, this person never returned voicemails, emails in 3 months, I had to escalate my complaint to a supervisory position, in turn, I was told that they are "overwhelmed" at the moment as was really no help what so ever. It took me 4 months of constant calling only to hold for up to 45 minutes, to get my car repaired. At a time when a person is in an injured state, dealing with doctors and therapists, then having to fight to get the repairs completed in a timely manner was unacceptable these people truly do not care for their customers well being, just keep increasing rates and collecting their money, we have taken our insurance needs elsewhere, do yourself a favour and pass this company by.
I spoke to one representative of Johnson Insurance, which was the worst experience ever. And even ended the chat without my agreeing hence I could not download the whole chat log of rude responses. Like why can't I say a bit less than 20000? Don't policies show 10000, 20000, 25000 etc? (see chat log below). And why I asked if I want to do a road trip and will up my driving up to 28000 how much more would I be paying, he just said they don't and will not do hypothetical estimates, and just disconnected the chat and I was kicked out. Guess poor people like me don't deserve decent services.
I had done an insurance claim back in March due to someone sliding into my car and pushing me into a snowbank. Johnson had put me 100% at fault for this accident even though there was nothing I could have done to prevent this accident. A few days later I had sent in dashcam footage of the accident, Johnson had then switched my adjuster without telling me and then had switched me from 100% at fault down to 50% at fault, I was exhausted trying to fight them so I gave up and took the 50%. They are now refusing to renew me and had flagged me as a high-risk driver. Just this month (in September) after finding out this news, I had tried to fight this again and they are saying the video was not clear enough to determine if the road had been narrowed to one lane due to snow, I had then sent a picture of both my car and the other ladies truck right beside each other on the road for proof that the road was, in fact, a 2 car road. After sending in this picture they refuse to email me back or call me back. I would never ever recommend this insurance company to anybody.
If I have a choice I would give them 0 stars. I used with Sсotialife financial insurance. I returned my car on Apr 15, 2020, and cancelled my car insurance at that time. Somehow Scotialife financial was transferred over to Johnson insurance, and I was shocked when I received a bill from Johnson. Because even I cancelled my policy, my files still were transferred to Johnson. I called Johnson to explain my situation, every time the agent gave a different answer, the first agent said she will contact the previous underwriter company and I can call back on the next day. When I called back JOHNSON to confirm, the other agent said they need a letter of experience from that company. I called back to them got the letter and emailed back to JOHNSON. The next day I called to see if Johnson can cancel my policy backdate the date, the agent said they need the clear cancellation letter. And they refused to do a conference call with the previous underwriter to confirm my policy was already cancelled. They make things very complicated. I was out of the country and every long-distance call costed me over an hour. A frustrating experience with Johnson. Never buy car insurance with them!
So I got stuck with a flat tire and no spare in the car. Called Johnson 24/7 road assistance which I pay for. After 30 min wait they finally answered, then they called me back in another half an hour just to tell me that the wait time is approximately 3 hours. I'm talking Toronto, not some remote place in the middle of nowhere. Awesome 24/7 service, worth every penny. Other than that it's a relatively good company with horrible customer service and nonexistent road assistance.
Do not use this insurance company! Premium went up with NO reasons, personnel are not knowledgeable. The last thing that they mentioned was that due to COVID-19 their corporate email shut down. What? They have grit to raise premiums and charge extra money from me but do not have the opportunity to fix their own corporate email...
My son has had two claims, while under Unifund/Johnson. Both claims he was NOT at fault. First, he was rear-ended, then, in the second accident, someone turned left into his lane running straight into him.
The first claim took almost two months to resolve. Interestingly, the garage had initially said the car was a write-off, but then after I pushed and pushed for a resolution, suddenly it could be repaired, 7 1/2 weeks later.
This time, his car was immediately written off, and that was it. We have had no luck getting anywhere with Unifund. I had one conversation with one person who, 7 weeks into the claim, said she'd take matters into her hands and personally ensure it was dealt with. That was nearly three weeks ago. Despite numerous calls, and a very detailed email to her, I have had no response.
DO NOT USE JOHNSON/UNIFUND.
