Federal public service. More than an hour wait and then cut off...

by Who has this much time to try to get service on Jun 28, 2023
1 out of 5 stars

I waited an hour and 14 min on hold and then got a message about being unable to process my service and the line was cut off. And this was not my first attempt.

The message said the info was availability the website - which is poor and did NOT have the info I needed.

Customer service could at least have callbacks the next day for people not processed.

Very very poor service and I am still stuck.

Disability

I’m on disability insurance with Canada Life and I had to wait 3 months for a decision to be made and it’s been 5 months and I still haven’t gotten paid. I’ve called and emailed them many times in which they keep saying you’ll get your paperwork and you’ll get your pay but still nothing. The worst company I’ve ever encountered with. My work uses Canada Life so unfortunately I can’t change insurance companies.

I hate this company

When you call to inquire about anything, you can be on hold for 1-3 hours. When you complain about how long it takes to get reimbursed for most benefits (which is often) they just pacify you and tell you it will be coming soon. I tell them I have been sending inquiries online and they tell me that is useless because no one checks that. Right now, I have been waiting to be reimbursed for medical supplies for 5 weeks. When I was waiting for reimbursement for my partial dentures, it took 6 weeks. My husband has this company for benefits. It is awful. Needed to get orthopedic shoes, so I got a doctor's note which they would not accept. You have to get a podiatrist to send a full and specific problem you are having and once they accept that, then you have to go through umpteen dozen pairs of orthopedic shoes until they decide to accept a pair. Terrible company!

Planning to get life insurance to protect your family, including children? Make sure that you get enough coverage. According to studies, it takes about $250,000 in total to raise a child to the age of 18 (and that doesn’t include any post-secondary education costs).

Terrible Insurance Company

The online portal is inaccurate and does not provide you with up-to-date information on your claims. You are required to call customer service with a lengthy wait (an hour +) to inquire about the status of your claim. The customer service representative's knowledge is very limited and often results in multiple transfers to other representatives before getting an answer.

I am forced to use this company for now because my employer decided to use them for our health benefits. However, if you have the choice, I strongly encourage you to seek a different insurance company because this level of incompetence and lack of transparency is something I’ve never seen before in an insurance company.

Absolute scam

Don't even use this company. The coverage is horrifically low for the premiums charged.
The worst insurance I've ever had.
If you make any changes to your account make sure you call them, again and again, to ensure they have it correct or they will cancel your plan and still randomly expect you to pay that first month they waved ever so nicely, in the beginning, absolute scam company. Beware!

My work just switched over to this insurer for some insane reason, and I am trying to get enrolled and registered, and not only was I on hold for two hours on the phone with them before being disconnected, I also went through ridiculous chat sessions with their "technical help". It appears they only have two agents to do the chat for the entire company -- Pratik and Nathalie. Pratik spent half an hour not answering my questions before disconnecting the chat on me, and now every time I happen to get Pratik on the chat, he automatically just disconnects the chat. He seems to be unable to answer basic questions about registration and enrollment when I did speak to him. Both of them just enter pre-written responses that do not answer any questions directly and it takes about an hour to get any basic answer to your question. I've enrolled with them but it seems that my plan isn't working at the pharmacy still, and there is no one to assist with this. Seems like that isn't the only problem I'm going to have with this company according to this horrid reviews.

Did you know there is a 35% chance of developing a critical illness before you are 65 and 65%-70% chance before you turn 81? That means getting a critical illness insurance quote is no less important than getting life insurance. Your choice.

Life Insurance

My father had life insurance policies with Canada Life and another company, a week after his passing I notified both companies, six weeks later and Canada Life has yet to send me any information about the settlement of his policy. There have been repeated calls, excuses that due to COVID they are behind in their claims departments. I have demanded and called supervisors who tell in five weeks I should hear something, now it’s up to another two weeks before someone contacts me. Latest call I have been told that they will be contacting me via email because the process is so slow when dealing through Canada Post. In the meantime the other company took my information over the phone on the same day I contacted Canada Life and we received the information we needed nine days later and sixteen days after we returned the forms that the company paid out the policy. Now, this other company had to deal with COVID also and sent everything through Canada Post and yet Canada Life can’t even begin the claim! Tonight I found this forum and I realize that Canada Life stalls regardless of the type of claim and COVID.

...If you take on a Canada Life policy, you'd make sure you have a good insurance agent, if not Canada Life is not going to help you at all. I have come to realize that my agent is not better than an used car salesperson, promised me the world before taking my money, ensuring me if I cancel within 30 days she would personally refund me the money if Canada Life does not. When I got pressured into signing up for the products with Canada Life, the agent back dated the cheques (totally over $4500), for reason unknown to me, and cheques cashed immediately. When I contacted the agent to cancel the policies the agent delayed on submitting the cancellation request number of times till I demanded confirmation of the cancellation of all policies I took on. I sat quietly for over a month, there was no sign of any refund, I then contacted the agent for the first time inquiring about the refunds. The agent told me she would check with Canada Life, I never heard from after. I texted twice, called and left message once, she ignored me. One morning I found her on the phone unexpectedly, she then told me she had traced the refund, not to worry and it might take a few months but I would 'eventually' get it. The casual careless attitude of the agent upset me. The same day she forwarded me a stream of emails asking her whether I have received my cheques without the agent’s reply. I waited few more days with no feedback after asking to confirm the address where the refund cheques would have been sent to. I then decided to write Canada Life New directly. All I got back was the email from the New Business Associate of the Individual Insurance New Business department telling the financial institute to which my agent belongs to to advise her not to allow the client to contact Canada Life directly. It seems that Canada Life does not care what the agents and financial institutions out there representing them doing to their clients and policy holders. When something goes wrong clients of Canada Life would have nowhere to turn to. They don't care, don't want to be contacted. When they take your money, they want it 2 days ago, when they have to pay or return your money, they don't want to hear from you. If you have anything to do Canada Life, God Helps You!!!

Canada Life will not pay

by Disappointed on Jun 28, 2015
1 out of 5 stars

I purchased life and disability insurance through RBC home protector and their provider is Canada Life. Last November I had a back injury and I have been of work for almost 7 months now. I applied for the disability insurance I was paying for and thought I had. Once I sent all my medical info regarding my injury to Canada Life, they wanted more info from my family doctor going back 2years from date I purchased the insurance. They found a medication prescribed to me in that 2year period . The medication was for something other than anything they indicated on the application form questions I answered when I applied for the insurance. They declined me coverage for my back injury and cancelled my coverage for disability. I appealed there decision with a letter from my doctor explaining the medication treatment and they still declined me a second time. I took it to a lawyer last week. He said Canada Life is treating me unfairly and that I stand a great chance of settling this in my favor. Problem is he said I could end up paying him more than the coverage I would get back from Canada Life. At least he was honest. More than I can say for this insurance company.

Did you know that if you are a 35-year old female, a term life insurance policy for 10 years with coverage of $500,000 will cost you around $15-$20/month? Getting your life insurance quote today will allow you to lock-in a great rate.

My claims are not being processed correctly, have tried contacting them for help. On hold for over an hour today and then the call disconnected because no one was available to answer the phone. Also sent messages through e-mail and only got generic FAQ responses.
