I was on short-term and then long-term disability with SSQ. My doctor said she had never dealt with them before and hoped never to have again. I always sent in all requested documentation on time and then I would sit for months waiting for an answer. I had 3 different case managers who never documented anything so the new one never had a clue and would accuse me of lying and say that the previous person would never have said that. I hit the 2-year mark on long-term disability and they wanted more documents. All were sent in before the date I was told. And behold at the 2-year mark they say not only are they cutting me off but I should never have even been approved 2.5 years ago. Oh, and they want $15000 back. Excuse me? How on earth can I pay them when they cut my only source of income and I still can hardly function in day-to-day life. Now, nearly a year later I have gotten 2 requests for my doctor to fill out a medical form so my benefits can continue to be assessed?? What a joke of a company!
In the beginning, the case manager comes across pleasant and helpful, however, once you submit their complicated extended medical forms (which my doctor commented as he's never seen one so complicated), they turn passive-aggressive & unsupported.
Once they have these forms filled out even with the support of your medical doctors for your medical leave, they seem to minimize your claim & states that their medical expert has gone through & claps backs saying your claim is denied.
It's all a sham, just want you to go back to work even though with your doctor says you are not ready & using their bias so-called health experts who have nothing to do with your treatment that you do not meet the medical grounds for receiving any payouts. Ridiculous & nothing but a waste of time & unnecessary stress. At this point, one needs to clap back with a lawyer & miraculously, all of sudden the claim is reopened & accepted.
I work for a company that uses SSQ for invalidity/salary insurance for their employees obviously for protecting employees who are signed off work by a health professional. Unfortunately, SSQ does not send the salary to its paying customers/members, on time and/or simply stop sending it without notice. You have to spend countless hours with them to figure out what's happening, they always come up with new demands from a health professional (cost +/- 100$ each time ), reports, assessment, etc and this is ongoing. Even if you are 100% on top of their demands they still stop payments at any time for their own pleasure, then good luck getting things moving, grab a coffee and a magazine cause you'll be busy all day with their request, phone calls and emails! I ended up having to send my emails directly to SSQ Insurance CEO, he's too busy to answer you but he does get the email and normally he delegates his work to the other employees). If your company wonders if they should go with SSQ, do yourself a huge favour and encourage them not to do business with these crooks, the cost per employee is not only expensive but it doesn't protect you! In my opinion, take it for what it's worth!
Terrible company. My young family and I have been uprooted from our home twice now because SSQ has terminated with sufficient medical evidence. We have a 5,4, and 1 year old and we’ve had to now move twice and my doctors are shocked that they will not reinstate ASAP. They’re starving my kids and myself. I choose to have a couple of bites of the price of bread and drink water. I try to make money while physically and mentally disabled.
This is the worst insurance company I’ve ever dealt with in regards to disability benefits. Very rude will give you the runaround, not compassionate and will go out of their way to make things difficult when you need help the most. I wish my company would have stuck with my previous insurer they were ten times better than this third-rate business.
