I'm a federal employee with Blue Cross Blue Shield Basic. I pay, for the +1 plan, $220/paycheck. Family is $240. There is NO deductible. No percentages. No risk.
My wife went to the ER a few times. Each time, a simple $150 deductible. The bill was $15,000. If she needed surgery? $150.
My doctor and specialty visits are $30. Everyone is In-Network for Blue Cross. Pregnancies are free. Urgent Cares are covered. All your kids have the same unlimited protection.
Now there are cheaper plans like Blue Focus. People may also be confused because their "Standard" plan is more expensive, and you pay percentages, with a deductible. If you need it, you know (due to a medical condition, out-of-network, etc.).
Basic is the best I have found so far for the government in that there is no deductible, no percentages, everyone accepts. The down-side is that is one of the most expensive for federal employees.
