Worst Insurance Coverage Ever

by Keeper2614 on Jan 5, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

My husband has Great West Life insurance coverage through work and recently I had a root canal re done and needed reimbursement for a pricey procedure. My insurance plan through my work covered a portion of it and reimbursed me right away. Great West Life on the other hand just gave us the run around by asking to stupid information (which we provided again and again) but they still didn't provide any reimbursement. They were worse than useless so if you think you have dental or extended coverage through them think again because they seem like nothing but scam artists.

Stay Away

Great West Life is the definition of an unethical extended health insurance provider. They will do everything they possibly can to delay insurance claims in hopes that they will avoid having to pay their patrons. A simple physio submission has turned into a month of emails, phone calls, and written mail. Their representatives on the phone speak defensively and with a condescending tone. GWL's business practice is shameful.

Lie about coverage

I had a dental plan with them and they refused to cover a simple filling repair. What a waste of money. If you want to get actual dental coverage go with anyone else.

They are making me jump through hoops to recover my $. 700 bucks for custom orthotics they are resisting reimbursement when I have a clinical diagnosis of plantar fascitis. GWL does not provide quality health coverage. Gwl is a terrible disappointment. Gwl sucks and are very unhelpful.

Request for information

GWL is nothing more than a corporate sponge. It does a great job of stealing workers money and requesting more information on every claim that you try and put through. After doing nine backflips, 40 jumping jacks and 60 sit-ups you might get paid. This company should be ashamed of themselves. Notice how all the good reviews have little information. That is because they are most likely done by GWL staff.

They will request your correct address by mailing you the notice to your address! I don't get it? Am I stupid or something? Then when you tell them your address which is where they mailed it to they send you another request for information form for the same claim.

Complete corporate gangsters and our union the IBEW shouldn't give these crooks a penny!

Do not get insurance with GWL.

This is the worst of the worst. Was put on short term disability for heart issue, doctor would not renew my licence and I drive truck for a living. Had to wait 7 1/2 weeks for first pay cheque, and was about 1/4 of what I made. The Evil witch that looked after my claim could not give a care of my condition, she told me that I was running out of short term disability and if I applied for long term disability I probably would not get it, because not being able to drive is not covered, and I live 50 miles from work.
I had several claims with this company, because the company I work for goes with GWL, and every time just very negative. One time had dentist work done and was in the dentist chair, and dentist was doing work on my teeth, they tried submitting claim to see if I would be covered, and GWL wanted to talk to me to ask me a bunch of personal questions to verify it was me, I felt like 2 inches tall. The only people I would recommend this company to is my enemy's.

They often drag out the claims process in an attempt to avoid paying out a claim, which often puts customers in a position of having to cover expenses while waiting for a claim to be approved. The agent said that they "getting tones of faxes".
Requiring excessive paperwork to cover simple drugs .
Not good value for money

Very poor communication.

My spouse added me to her company plan when I switched to self-employed. Since it was impossible to do so on her online account, we contacted them. I was added. When I attempted a dental claim, the dentist sent it in electronically as usual with my spouse's claims. It went through fine.

Two weeks later we hadn't seen the money. My spouse called and GWL said they had no record of me on her plan and we had to submit a manual paper form for the first claim. My dentist did so, with my spouse's signature and my info on it.

Another week passes, still no money. I finished my dental work, submitted a second claim, and this time it came back saying my coverage was terminated. We called GWL on the spot and the rep said my coverage still wasn't active because they required information such as my relation to her, how long we've been together, etc. We answered all questions and they said everything would be fine.

Three days later we got an email saying the first claim had gone through and money was on the way. About a half hour after that, GWL called to tell us that they required all the info we have given over the phone in writing or my claim wouldn't be active.

Not only are they providing muddy and confusing communications to their clients, it seems they are not communicating with each other. I would never pay for a plan with GWL out of my own pocket.

Bad Service

This provider has horrible service, They take forever to process your claims and make every attempt to not pay when you get orthotics. They ask for every detail which is provided to them and sometimes they accept this and the next time they do not! Unacceptable service.
