Great Waste of Life

I have been with this excuse of of a benefits provider for 13 years. I don't pay for it as my employer provides it. I wish I did pay for it so that I could get rid of them. Every single time I try to claim something it gets denied for some reason or other, none being a incorrect claim. They love to find ways to keep your money from you. When you call them the people on the phone act as though you are inconveniencing them, and they won't answer your questions. If you are looking for a good provider then keep on looking. What a useless company.

Very slow in refunding claim

I submitted a claim for a vaccination ($210.00) via Registered Mail. They said it would take 3-5 days to process. It has been 10 business days, and when I call them they still say 3-5 days. I have direct deposit, so there is no excuse. By the way, if you are retired you cannot use the electronic submission, but must use mail for claims that are not through your pharmacy or dentist.

Horrible Service and Coverage

by GreatWestSUCKS on Nov 18, 2014

Quite horrified from dealing with Great West Life regarding the group medical benefits plan we pay into at work. After a dental claim was refused by GWL because my dental office booked my appointment 7 days early from my 12 month anniversary of that appointment, they refused to process the claim. When I called out that this fact isn't clear to members (most plans are as strict with the 12 rolling months issue), they indicated that there was no course of action for me, no way of escalating the matter, or getting any satisfaction from GWL. That's consistent with the rest of the complaints about this crappy company and coverage. It's table stakes coverage at a standardized rate and a lack lustre experience all the way around.
Take charge in your workplace. Petition for better service. Both dental clinics and insurance companies have it very easy - they are guaranteed payment of premiums by the employer (retaining at source) and no one disputes dental clinics maxing out their clients' plans.
The only one NOT profiting from this arrangement is the consumer who must pay for everything even when the service is REALLY BAD.
Great West Life - you suck big time!

I have had the great displeasure to have to deal with such a company. I had been selected for a random audit on an online claim. To my defense, I had mailed them right away afterwards to explain what I had done wrong. They continued to refund me the incorrect amount and then proceeded to lock me out of the e-claims privileges because I had not sent the receipts. I had sent it through an email and still it got lost in the ether!

I have had rude customer service from them and continuously receiving sub par service because they don't read their emails and lose my information always!!!!

Great west life lied to me about what was going to be covered, I sought out treatment, and then had my claim denied... I was left with a 500.00 bill.

Thanks a lot GWL.

Very poor communication.

My spouse added me to her company plan when I switched to self-employed. Since it was impossible to do so on her online account, we contacted them. I was added. When I attempted a dental claim, the dentist sent it in electronically as usual with my spouse's claims. It went through fine.

Two weeks later we hadn't seen the money. My spouse called and GWL said they had no record of me on her plan and we had to submit a manual paper form for the first claim. My dentist did so, with my spouse's signature and my info on it.

Another week passes, still no money. I finished my dental work, submitted a second claim, and this time it came back saying my coverage was terminated. We called GWL on the spot and the rep said my coverage still wasn't active because they required information such as my relation to her, how long we've been together, etc. We answered all questions and they said everything would be fine.

Three days later we got an email saying the first claim had gone through and money was on the way. About a half hour after that, GWL called to tell us that they required all the info we have given over the phone in writing or my claim wouldn't be active.

Not only are they providing muddy and confusing communications to their clients, it seems they are not communicating with each other. I would never pay for a plan with GWL out of my own pocket.

Bad Service

This provider has horrible service, They take forever to process your claims and make every attempt to not pay when you get orthotics. They ask for every detail which is provided to them and sometimes they accept this and the next time they do not! Unacceptable service.

Ditropan is a medication paid by the gouvernement and them are not paying it, they want us to use old meds that are obsolete, and they just don't want to pay anything ...
