Travel insurance with Manulife insurance

by Rich on May 24, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

Please be aware of this insurance. Don't buy travel insurance with them! Their policy is so poor they just want your money. Not refundable if you buy after not ten-day purchase. Even if the flight is cancelled and not your fault they will not give your money back. Don't waste your time and waste your money with them. Low service I have never met in Canada.

Look Elsewhere for Travel Insurance

I booked a flight for my son through air miles and was directed to Manulife for insurance. DON'T USE THEM. My son had a medical issue and the flight had to be changed. Five months later, still waiting and impossible to contact customer service.

Trip Cancellation Insurance claim denied - deceptive online sales tactics

by Underhsh on Mar 24, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

Their website is slick, easy to buy policies, the fine print is difficult to find. Finally got access to the official Policy document AFTER purchasing coverage online. Had questions because the policy wording contradictory. A representative couldn’t answer my questions on phone and told me she would find answers and email me. Received an email with the policy doc attached (which I already had, that’s why I was calling in the first place!} but no answers or clarification. Phone lines are too busy to talk to someone else. I then called the claims department directly to ask them point-blank if I would be covered if I cancel my trip if a new travel advisory issued by the Government of Canada in future. Was told verbally “yes”, I would be covered, because I purchased the policy in November when a travel advisory was no longer in effect, and also before my travel date in January 2022, and wording in the policy states that this event would be covered if it happened in that order. After Dec 15 a travel advisory was re-issued by govt. Made numerous attempts to contact the travel supplier, finally got through on Dec 24. Cancelled my trip, then submitted 2 claims online with all supporting docs for the cost of non-refundable portion of the trip. Waited 2 months to get a decision, emails and phone calls to them did not get a reply. Claim denied, using a reason that Covid-19 was a well-known event and a travel advisory was in effect since March 2020. This was incorrect. The travel advisory was lifted/removed by the Canadian government in October 2021, after which I booked the trip and bought the policy. Govt then reissued the travel advisory on Dec 15 after I booked the trip and bought the policy. There is very specific wording in the policy of when they will pay claims for this situation, and I met all the stipulations with dates, travel advisories, etc. An identical claim for a family member was also denied for the same reason. I did everything a cautious consumer should do prior to purchasing this policy and making a travel booking, and still, they ignore wording in their policy (contract) and invent reasons why they deny my claim. Their focus is on selling, the workflow on their website is deceptive, giving you the impression you will be covered, even after I read the actual policy and had questions, they could not or would not answer them. They don’t expect consumers to read the policy. They can’t answer questions about the policies they are selling. I have 5 different phone # for ManuLife Travel Insurance. Four different companies involved in this insurance for selling, assistance, claims, etc... Very complicated to get help after policy purchase. I will contact CBC Marketplace or CBC Go Public to see if they are interested in reporting this to Canadians. Seriously considering suing them in Small Claims Court. There probably should be a class action brought against their deceptive practices.

POOR SERVICE

These people are quick to take your money and avoid payment of claims. It has been almost five months since I filed my claim and to date even after more than twenty follow up calls / numerous emails they still have not paid! Staff memeber are horrible to deal with - no empathy - and claim they are "too busy". You work and save hard to afford a vacation and when you are forced to cancel beacuse your mother dies days before the trip - they take five months to run you around! Unacceptable!

Manulife Travel All Inclusive - Not Worth it!

by Mindy on Jul 13, 2023
1 out of 5 stars

Back last September I purchased a family vacation using our saved air miles. We were to travel at Christmas. Our trip was cancelled. The carrier refunded our trip cost but we were still short the insurance portion of the trip. I purchased the all-inclusive package thinking this was the best thing to do. What a waste of money. I contacted Manulife to have the medical portion refunded as we didn't travel and they said they could not refund it as it was all-encompassing in the all-inclusive package and they had no way of breaking out the medical portion. In addition, I was on the phone for an hour, spoke to 6 different people, customer service, claims, sales, back to customer service, back to claims and then I finally said: "Would someone figure out whose responsibility this is?" In the end, I am out $2800 for this insurance. We never left the ground. My recommendation is, never to use Manulife, find a good credit card and use it for trip cancellation and buy your medical insurance either via your bank or another reputable supplier. Never again will I use or recommend Manulife Travel Insurance, big money grab!

Worst travel insurance policy ever

by Sophia on Jan 23, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

After purchasing travel insurance from Manulife CoverMe, I had an unexpected health event that required me to submit an insurance claim through Manulife Insurance, which appoints Global Excel Management to provide all assistance and claims services under their policy. After countless follow-up phone calls and waiting almost 3 months for a response, I received a letter from Global Excel saying Manulife CoverMe would not reimburse me for the cost of my trip even though I had provided the medical proof necessary to show I could not travel. Manulife and Global Excel have tried to use the excuse that I have a travel voucher as a reason to not reimburse me even though I cannot use the voucher within the specified amount of time. I will be fighting this until I get my money back, even if I have to escalate this to a more public platform to show that Manulife Travel Insurance and Global Excel cannot be trusted to provide customer service for legitimate travel insurance reimbursements. If I could give Manulife a zero out of 5 stars, I would but that is unfortunately not an option. I will keep you all posted.

No Complaints

by Richard Allan Brady on Feb 29, 2024
5 out of 5 stars

I expected the worse judging by many of the reviews. I had to cancel the trip my wife and I had planned due to a sudden illness. They outlined what documents I needed to supply to them which I did. I could not get a medical certificate for two months waiting to see a specialist but they held the claim open. Once I sent them the final paperwork, the reimbursement was in my bank account within two weeks. I have never had to use my cancellation insurance but it was very straightforward. Thanks Manulife.

No resolution after two months of inquiry

by Therese deChamplain-Good on Jan 8, 2024
1.5 out of 5 stars

Manulife representative was not clear in the requirement that each person (husband and wife) must both register for Flight Assist independently on their site. Therefore, when flights were cancelled, only one individual received the refund. Two months later and Manulife representative not rectifying the issue. They make millions of dollars and are refusing to issue $140.
Poor service and customer support.
Will not use again.
