The premium is always up for no reason even if you don't have any claim. If you have a claim, then it's even worse.
I've had my cars (truck and wife's car), a motorcycle, and my home with them for the past 6 years. Every year you kind of expect a small increase, and they were never more than 1%. However, this year on the renewal, it jumped 11%. No claims and no change to driving records. I ditched for Johnson's insurance. Auto was the same but house ins. was $400 cheaper with better flood coverage even.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
Concerned with a significant increase to our premiums, we decided to shop around, and also gave the Personal a chance to tender more competitive pricing. Their answer: they had no further discounts to apply to our policy. Our answer: say goodbye to customers who have been with you for close to 30 years; customers who will enjoy saving close to $1,000 with their new provider!
My car insurance premium has increased by 20% for year 2018 for royal customer like me, 8 years with them. I had a not-at-fault accident 5 years ago. I was told by someone in the Personal that it was not my fault and no big increase in premium. Since then, my premium has increased around 4% every year, which I considered was a reasonable increase. When I called them to discontinue my insurance, I was told that they put me at fault for the accident and threatened me that other insurance company will ask for high premium.

I was shopping for car insurance, as my former insurer was getting too pricey. The agent at The Personal seemed nice enough, and the rate was oddly much lower than any company I had called, including brokers, esp for the area I live in and the car I drive. However, when asked if he could send me a copy of the quote detailing the premium along with the principle amount I would be paying for each type of coverage, he stated,
"Sorry, we can't do that. You need to sign up first, then we'll send you all the paperwork to review."
Shouldn't you send me everything first so I can REVIEW it and THEN sign off on the documents? Why would anyone sign up for insurance first and then look over the documents? That makes NO sense! Even with the lowest premium, their conduct of business seemed odd and when I inquired with another company, they said that what they asked of me was ILLEGAL!
I felt the agent rushed me just to sign me up.
Needless to say, I had to go with the 2nd best option I had.
