over 20 years and nothing

by 35000$ lost on Aug 6, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

After 20 years with them, 2 small claims were paid and the third major claim (over 30,000$).
With the new car replacement scam they have, they paid nothing and cancelled all my insurances because I complained that I will take them to the court.
I transferred to another company and I found out that I was over 20 years client of them and they were charging me almost double.
Don't register with them.

Employee named Terry is beyond rude

by Drew on Jul 19, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

Adviser Terry is a big mistake to be part of the a company that can ruin your reputation. Maybe that's why you guys have a very poor feedback rating. Terry is an unprofessional uneducated employee that I've talked to. She is a beyond unacceptable individual in the company... Good luck to you... I hope don't treat your fellow human like your slave... You can't treat people like that remember we are still human. Good luck Personal having such an unprofessional employee... What the experience with you...

So sorry I gave any money at all to these guys over 30 years

Firstly, when we first used Personal, we were impressed with their response, however, the level of support has significantly decreased to the point of being almost non-supportive. In January of 2021, my spouse passed away, which impacted me significantly from a financial standpoint. In March of 2021, another driver did an illegal U-turn on a two-lane highway, and into the side of my truck. The other driver claimed he was turning into a non-existent driveway when I passed him. The closest driveway was approximately 100m behind where I was hit. The next possible driveway was almost 500m ahead. I had video, I had pictures of where my tire tracks were, where I ended up in the ditch. I had a statement from a gentleman who was watching me from the driveway behind us. Personal accepted a 50% claim of the accident because the other driver's insurance claimed he wasn't at fault. I always assumed your insurer looked after you - that is unless it is Personal??? What I was told was that if both insurers don't take responsibility, it falls to the driver. I now had a claim that should not be there. I was given a rental car. I was driving on the highway and sustained a rock chip in the window - totally unavoidable. When I returned the car, because it had gotten quite cold overnight - the chip now became a 7-inch crack. Enterprise now claimed that the entire windshield needed to be replaced. As per my insurance documents - I was always told that I didn't need additional insurance for a rental car... Well apparently, what I was told after, was that I should have taken the glass coverage offered by Enterprise - Personal doesn't cover that. Even when you have glass coverage for a personal vehicle. That cost me $500. Following this accident (which I am still under treatment for); I was on long-term disability. This fixed my income at a set rate and I was unable to pick up additional work. I decided to retire, rather than return to work and received my final paycheque on April 4th. Unfortunately, my pension has not kicked in, even as of today and Personal cancelled my policy with them at the end of April for non-payment. I don't fault them for taking that step, I had no money to pay them with. However, today, when I went to get insured again, now that I am in a somewhat better position financially - Personal refuses to provide Comprehensive or Collision coverage (which I require for a financed vehicle), because there were two glass claims and one accident since 2018. We had household insurance with them. No claims. I have had at least six or seven vehicles listed with them... One claim was when my vehicle was stolen and all they paid for was a mechanical inspection in 2004. A windshield replacement in 2018 and the accident in 2021 and suddenly I'm not worth their business. They can take their customer service and shove it where the sun doesn't shine. I feel disrespected. I feel abused and I would not recommend their services to anyone. Thank God my lawyers are on my side and will look after me, where the accident is concerned.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Crooks!

by Braden on Jun 29, 2022

Don't insure with these clowns.
New Vehicle Protection coverage is a scam - they won't honour it and you get stuck with lost value even if you are not at fault. Run, don't walk, away from these crooks.
Thanks for saddling me with thousands of dollars in lost value as a result of a collision I was not at fault for.

Don’t bother with this company

by Disappointed on Jun 23, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

I would give zero stars to the claims specialist if that was an option. He did not explain anything, had no answers to my questions and was impossible to get a hold off. Absolutely no concern for the client and very nonchalant. Definitely would not recommend this company. This was my first claim after over a decade of having them as my insurance company and what dismal service!! Will definitely take my business elsewhere.

Worst Insurance Company Ever

by Al on Jun 13, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

I wish there was an option to give them Zero stars since they don't deserve any stars. Personal Insurance simply is a fraud and they don't pay you money. You should give them a monthly premium for nothing.
Their appraiser estimated $700 for a BMW X5 2021 repair!!! Under my deductible... It was a $3200 repair and I had to pay it myself.

The worse customer service ever

Very impolite and terrible customer service. Never try Personal that is a trap. The agents are very rude and disrespectful. Giving you the wrong information for the quote and they are not responsive.

I have been waiting for 5 months for a not at fault accident claim, stay away!

by tony on May 24, 2022

Absolutely ridiculous! I have been waiting to fix my car for 5 months and I have not heard back from them. I have called them like a million times and they always transfer me and go straight to voice mail. It is a money grab with no ethics or no concern for their customers, stay away at all costs!

Unreasonable quote to Canadian Armed Force

by HK on Apr 29, 2022
2.5 out of 5 stars

Got a letter from them on April 8, 2022, stating that special discount for the armed forces. So today I obtained the quote for my own insurance and got a ridiculous quote of $164 per month for a 2012 Acura TL used for pleasure only i.e. not for work. I called to get a quote for the additional 3 drivers in the family, I was quoted $ 243. My current insurance is $143. I am mesmerized by how can they use Armed forces time like this. I request Paul Douglas, VP of The Personal to look into and stop sending such letters to the Canadian Armed Forces as it is the worse teamwork and potential customer experience.

Thank you

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Increased annual by 25% for no reason

by DarrellF on Apr 26, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

I had my car, motorcycle, and home insurance with them for 5 years back in 2018. I get my renewal and the prices for all coverages have gone up by an average of 25%. The agent on the phone actually sounded embarrassed when she said it was due to forest fires and hurricanes in the States. I could tell she was given that line to tell people and she wasn't comfortably lying to people. I think this is just another company banking on people being too lazy to look around and jump ship. It pays to be a fickle consumer.
