I was in a no-fault accident in June 2018. During the claims process, I dealt with a very efficient agent at The Personal, who was accessible by text as well as by email and phone. It was initially hard to reach the company via their toll-free line at the time of the accident, admittedly, but in the end, it did no harm. I felt that the claims process went fairly smoothly. They sent my vehicle to be assessed at a local body shop (in Etobicoke) that they trusted, and that body shop was also easy to deal with. They covered my rental vehicle, not for terribly long but without issue, at least. My own vehicle was determined to be a write-off. The value assessed for my vehicle wasn't unreasonable. I received payment in our bank account once I completed my end of things - the agent gave me clear instructions on what I needed to do. This is my recent take on their claims process. Can't comment on the cost of the policy, except to say that it may not be the cheapest.
The first claims advisor did explain everything to me on the phone, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover that for a deer strike the comprehensive deductible of $100 is paid instead of the $500 deductible if a collision with a car or other object. Took the car to the bodyshop. A few days later received a letter from a different claims advisor with her phone number. She was not very responsive to voicemail but I did speak to her once during the start of the initial 5 weeks the car was in the body shop for very minor front bumper damage. Then there was another 4 week wait for a back ordered part, not the fault of the insurance company, but they sure don't do anything to try to get the bodyshop to speed up. I was dissatisfied with a couple of minor issues with the car at the bodyshop, I left messages for the claims advisor and never did hear back from her. I did receive another letter from the Personal with a survey asking me to rate my experience at the bodyshop and with the claims advisor. Overall I'm glad my car is back and it only cost me $100.

In regards to value for the money, they offer more competitive premium pricing then other quotes I've received in the past. Although this is likely because I receive a "corporate" discount through my credit union.
When claim submitted, they did everything possible to make it more difficult for me with a car claim
I've been a customer for a long time now and have never made a claim on my home insurance. Given this fact, I was shocked to discover that any claim I make will result in a 15 - 20% increase in my insurance premiums. I asked them why this was and got the typical excuses, like "insurance fraud is driving prices up". Desjardins owns The Personal and posted a $855 million profit last quarter. The Personal's pricing policies are driven by nothing more than insatiable corporate greed. The rates are competitive as long as you don't make a claim. But as soon as you do, even a small claim, the premiums skyrocket.
