For the first time, I tried to use the benefits of this card for cancelling a trip to the US due to the coronavirus and they told me unless I am sick or a family member is dead I can't use this benefit. By the way, I was on hold for 2 hours and 15 minutes.
We purchased a long-haul flight for my niece who flew home to a different destination in Canada than the rest of the family after our vacation in California. We booked her seat at check-in the day before when we called to speak with an agent but when we went to the airport the next day, we were told the flight was oversold. She now did not have a seat and they kept saying she would not get on the flight we booked or likely the one the next day. Air Canada did not say when she would get home nor offer us any flights on an alternate airline or food or a hotel. The economy ticket you purchase with your points is fine with airlines who do not oversell their flights, e.g. WestJet, and we are fine if we do not sit together on a flight if you select your seat at check-in. We just want to get on the flight we chose and paid for with points and cash. We will never fly with Air Canada again whether it is using this reward program or paying for it ourselves. Otherwise, have been happy with the benefits (Lounge Pass, extra insurance) and previous rewards.

Customer service absolutely useless. I tried to redeem my points for a flight, the CR individual was charging me double then what was online. After 30 mins of explaining it, he still couldn't provide me with the amount that was displayed on the AIR CANADA web site!!! I called back an hour later and I missed out on the flight because of his ignorance. THE WORST CREDIT CARD, I since cancelled my card! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE
CIBCs website didn't allow me to choose any options for the car (snow tires) in an area that requires snow tires by law. Rental car company ended up charging me an extra 300 dollars for my "reward". In total this rental probably cost me 500 dollars for 3 days, when quoted on your website as 30 dollars a day. If I avoided using this website I could've found a car half this price with snow tires. This is probably the worst experience I have ever had booking any sort of travel. I would never use the CIBCs reward system ever again and I am strongly going to advise that people avoid this system and the Aventura credit card.
CIBC Visa is not a card worthwhile to have in your wallet. I’ve got the card blocked by the CIBC after I started using it and they didn’t call to provide any details.

I work for CIBC and get this card for free and only use it to get my free lounge access when travelling. The whole thing is a scam. The cost of the ticket is based on distance and is fixed. Which means, if the price goes down, you won't get any discount. On the other hand, because of the limits they put, if the price goes up, they'll charge you the difference. Also, the taxes and fees aren't included in the number of points required and are set by CIBC very liberally, about 40 to 50% of the ticket price you can find elsewhere. And using point for paying taxes is 100 for a C$1. which is way less than their advertised 2.5 cents per point value. But if you do not have enough points and need to use your money, the conversion rate is somehow 3 cents per point! Robbery! There's no point calling the Customer Service as they all tell you that those are the rules. Do yourself a favour and choose a card that has a dollar value attached to your rewards.
Customer service is ok but the points are worth nothing, the priority pass that comes with the card is totally useless. You'll only end up paying $120 annual fee.
Been accumulating points for six years now. I've got to wonder why when doing a flight comparison shop, posted taxes and fees on the rewards site turn out to be more than 1/2 the regular inclusive ticket price. $1500 in taxes after expanding a bunch of my arduously accumulated points when the regular fare posted on Expedia is $2200? I might as well have not gone with the card at all and saved myself 6 years worth of annual fees.

The card isn't worth a nickel. I have this card now for several years with 168,000 points. Tried booking a flight and the website does not allow you to choose "to"/"from", it will prompt you to choose from the "list" but there is no list. Their customer service...terrible. 15 mins waiting to speak to someone only to be given the brush-off!! My LAST go around with this useless piece of...plastic!! Thank-you CIBC, I guess I will have to grow wings and fly to my destination like your stupid penguin!!
Bought lotto tickets online and paid with my CIBC Visa card and was charged a $5 dollars service fee for a cash advance, calling them on Monday morning to close my account. Other Visa cards treat this transaction as a purchase as that is what it is. Adios CIBC
