Unreliable, lied to and frustrated.

by Shannon Patriquin on Jan 6, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

In October I applied and paid a deposit. Told 10 business days to arrive. I am military deploying in January and a credit card is necessary for making reservations and handy to travel with. By mid-Nov still no card. Called, told to wait another week or two. Still, nothing came. Called back end of Nov and finally convinced them I never received it. They are sending out another one and waving rush fees I was told. Wait another 2 weeks still nothing came. Called, now told they can't do rush to a PO BOX! I move, forward my mail at the post office. Still nothing at end of December. Call again. They are going to send another card (3rd one) and rush it by courier to the door, no charge. Wait at home for 3 days still nothing. Call them again, it went out by regular post on Tuesday. I deploy now in a week 😡I can't even get my refund in time now. I don't know if this is a scam or what's wrong with this organization. I do not recommend it. No compensation or any solution was even offered to me.

Horrible

by Ian on May 3, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

7 months to issue card, wrong issue to the credit bureau, they cancelled the same day, then reissued the next day, that dropped my credit rating 17 points. Used about a month, then locked my account because the check was stale-dated, Mar 30, told send $1,000 deposit through my bank and would process as a deposit, April 5 account still locked, was told I might still have to send them another $1,000 check even though they have the $1,000 I already sent through the bank because it might not process it as a deposit, said would call me back in two business days, never got call back.
Couldn't log in may 3, was told it's still locked and they would try to process the $1,000 they still have of mine as a deposit, and they will call me back in two business days. Now I have a useless card, they have $1,000 of my money, I can't log in to see my balance, and if I cancel, my credit will take a hit. Also, if they mail your bill, you probably won't get it until after the due date.

I applied for the card in July and sent all required documents and deposit, waited over 10 weeks, still no reply, ended up cancelling my check, costing me money. Total garbage company and would avoid at all costs.

Never apply for their CC

by TinsleysMom on Aug 20, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

I am in the process of trying to repair my credit so a financial planner told me to get a Secured CC First and gave me 3 names to choose from. I didn't do any research and filled out their application online in mid-July. Within a day they had sent me the instructions about where and how much to send and how to label the money order. Nowhere on the site or in the email did they mention the turnaround time. I went to the post office and sent it off the next day. I waited a month and had heard nothing. Not even that they had received anything or the funds. I called the 1800 number and after waiting like half-hour finally spoke to someone. She informed me that as of August 10th, the department that processes the applications to move forward was working on files from May still. She said it was due to COVID but now from the other reviews I'm reading I learn it's been an issue for years. What a disgrace. I'll be calling first thing and be demanding they cancel my request and return my money order.

Time waster go elsewhere

by Charlie on Aug 16, 2020
1.5 out of 5 stars

Filled out an application and sent Bank Draft ALL as requested. No response for 4 weeks not even to state they had recorded the Draft (their office is a few blocks from my home so it would have arrived within 2-3 days locally). Called them. Could offer no updates but promise would be ready within a few weeks and my Card posted to me. Rang back yet again after the promised timeline, it was extended once again. Rang back a 3rd time and this was the first time they 'confirmed' they had recorded my deposit and informing me it won't be ready till September unless they deny my application!!! Extremely frustrating, seem highly unorganized with no 'protocol' in place. I really wish I would have gone elsewhere... Am looking into other options and am going to try to get my deposit back. Very disappointed! They feel untrustworthy and that is the worst feeling.

7 weeks of wasting time

by NN on Aug 28, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

I applied for a Home Trust secured credit card because I don't have a credit history. After 1 month of silence, I was requested to send them 2 IDs, a utility bill and a bank account statement. I sent everything, except the utility bill (all utilities are included in my rental agreement). Also, I sent an invoice from my Internet provider with my name, address and payment information. I got a refusal 7 weeks after my application date because I was not able to send them electricity, water or cable bill. If you need to build a credit history either apply to their competitors or be prepared for 2-3 months of processing time and sending tons of documents. If you need a credit card for online shopping, including flights and hotels, consider the prepaid credit cards.

Home trust preffered Visa card

by Joke on Feb 18, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

I applied in September 2018. Received PIN at the end of October. The card never arrived. Called them in Jan 2019. They said they are going to send a new PIN and a new card. Received the PIN in 10 days. Three weeks later no card arrived. Called them again. They asked for permission to block the card that never arrived. Promised to send new PIN in 10 days and a new card. What a Joke...

Incredibly slow

by Disappointed on Nov 3, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

I, like other reviewers, am appalled by the incredibly slow response time. I applied for the card over 8 weeks ago and leave for my trip to California in 2 days... it’s the weekend now, so will definitely not even have a chance of receiving the card! Unbelievable!! Others' credit cards are 2-3 weeks from application to having a card. Had I known, I would not get the card before leaving for my trip, I would not have applied. Thanks for nothing Home Trust!

administrative nightmare

by Frequent Traveller on Sep 20, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

I applied for a card in Feb 2018, I called multiple times to check on the status, no straight answer, told I should be receiving in weeks. Months later no card, follow up call in Sept 2018 - was told it would be faster to re-apply. Requested to speak to supervisors, no answer, after investigation told my application was declined! I have an excellent credit score of 800+. Was told to check with Equifax, possible error in my files... weeks later I receive my report, address correct, excellent score. Home preferred trust did 3 checks ...2 x in Feb and again in April 2018. The only discrepancy was an old address that was not accurate. After reading other reviews I wonder if I trust this company. I guess I do not have a lot of faith given my experience of how they manage customer calls and concerns.

Worst Ever

by scottj13 on Sep 5, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

These folks have been a nightmare to deal with ever since I applied for the card. Wait time for receipt of a card was inordinate with no practical way to even determine if the card was in process or the application was still pending. Called a few months back to advise - I was leaving the country and would be using the card overseas. The operator had no idea what to do or why I would even call to tell them this. Yesterday my card was blocked due to a suspicion of fraud concerning 5 charges in total. Only one of which was for the amount incurred. Called the "customer service" fraud people and was told the only charge they were actually interested in was for the correct charge. After I told them this charge was valid, I was told the block on my account had been removed. I asked why they sent other charges with a specific request that I approve them all. The response was that this was Home Trust practice. Then later told they were actually interested in all the charges by a supervisor and advised to contact Home Trust customer service directly to address them. When asked why I needed to when the card was now unblocked. The supervisor reverted to the standard practice mantra and them only being interested in one charge. The supervisor also told me all charges I was sent were dominated in US currency. When I told her this was strange given I was using a Canadian credit card, she claimed she was unaware of this. Really?
