I paid disability insurance on my mortgage for 15 years and then was diagnosed with cancer last year. I have been fighting with Canada Life but I have been denied! I spent 4 months in chemo and 15 sessions of radiation and did not receive a penny from Canada Life. They were sure happy to take my $150 a month for the last 15 years. Do not take out any type of insurance with this company
Total scam! They will sign you up for insurance protection on your Walmart MasterCard without letting the customer know and charge you ridiculous amount every month. When you call them to cancel the plan and ask for a refund, they won't give you a refund! Instead, they threaten you to be careful of the way you talk to them because everything is recorded!!! They don't value their customers and they only want to run away with your money!!! Stay away! This is a SCAM!!!
Had disability insurance on the house for 11 years! I broke my hand at work and they refused to pay up.
Before signing up they will promise you they world, but when time comes to pay they won't part with your money. You will have to wait forever, and they don't want to hear from you at all. If your agent is not going to help you, Canada Life won't either. Once they have your money, nobody cares , you are on your own.
I've held 3 policies over the 12 years I've been with my bank and since I experienced nerve pain and been place off work and waiting for a lengthy drawn out night mare of a discussion I've been told I'm to high risk they are shredding my contract and sending all my premiums back to me. these guys are crooks. I called my branch manager expressed the disgusting product that they are endorsing and that is a bad reflection on their business. We'll see where this goes but this bank has been warned I will pull pin on them after 12 years and working where i work and the elbows i rub this experience will cost both business dearly as because everyone will hear the "peace of mind" that are all lies sold to un-expecting clients.
I purchased life and disability insurance through RBC home protector and their provider is Canada Life. Last November I had a back injury and I have been of work for almost 7 months now. I applied for the disability insurance I was paying for and thought I had. Once I sent all my medical info regarding my injury to Canada Life, they wanted more info from my family doctor going back 2years from date I purchased the insurance. They found a medication prescribed to me in that 2year period . The medication was for something other than anything they indicated on the application form questions I answered when I applied for the insurance. They declined me coverage for my back injury and cancelled my coverage for disability. I appealed there decision with a letter from my doctor explaining the medication treatment and they still declined me a second time. I took it to a lawyer last week. He said Canada Life is treating me unfairly and that I stand a great chance of settling this in my favor. Problem is he said I could end up paying him more than the coverage I would get back from Canada Life. At least he was honest. More than I can say for this insurance company.
I filled for short term disability for depression and anxiety and health issues the company after receiving the forms that I sent before the deadline reviewed them and told me they needed more information which I provided. After providing the information and making me wait more than 2 weeks they managed to deny the claim saying there was still not enough information... So I had to go see my doctor again and provide them with more information and they kept the same thing and said their decision was final because the date I should have provided the information was too late. It is extremely hard at this time to see doctors because of all the restrictions due to COVID... I really feel like they are not human and really don't care about people. I would advise not to take any insurance with them for the experience I got. It's not enough to have to deal with my health issue every day. I feel like my insurance company restricting my employer to pay me is like saying we are giving up on you and don't care. Thank you Canada Life I hope your agents feel like they really contribute to helping people by denying their claims when they really need it.
The absolute worst experience being on disability.
Firstly... There should be a completely separate department for mental health. How one is treated and talked to by this company while struggling with mental health is unreal. The person who dealt with my financing portion was the worst person to talk to. My RTW plan started March 12-April 12 I was told l'd receive march payment on April 15, now according to the rep it's the 26th. No email or anything to update me, so I can make arrangements for all my payees. February payment wasn't received until March 5th.
Unbelievably unorganized company with a huge lack of communication. The amount of chasing I've had to do to get no answers and to be lied to is crazy. If you can avoid having to use Canada Life, I would. It's more stress on top of the stress you're already under. If you're on disability for a broken leg or something, maybe they're ok. Not for mental health/wellness.
This company should be shut down. 42 days without any payments on short term disability. They don’t answer their phones or emails. Applying for home protection now thru my bank which unfortunately deals with them as well but since you don’t pay me, going on 42 days right now what the hell do you expect? Would have been fine if you had continued to pay me regular benefits.
Thank god my company is switching to a different assurance. More companies should do that.
I bought disability insurance with Canada Life which I paid monthly but when I was on my days off in Edmonton, I had a car accident. I was off work then I applied for my disability to cover my mortgage payment after I provided them with all the documents they needed. After three months they demanded more documents for the last two years. They declined my claim for they found out I was taking medications for other things that have nothing to do with my claim. I think some legal actions should be taken against Canada Life and should go public for others not to do business with this fraud company. Hardly anyone would be approved. It's a scam
