I wish I have the energy to sue them

by Laila on May 6, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

When I read the other comments, I see that the same thing happened to me. I am an executive with the Government of Canada. It took them 5 months to process my claim (after a lot of pushing). I am the one who had to call them each time (and I am sick, can you imagine it!) and wait for weeks to get them to move to the next step of the process. All kinds of excuses to slow down the process were used (the case manager is out of the office...). They do not mention anything missing until you call them and complain about the timeline to process the claim. They do not pay attention to what the doctor says in his notes. They make you feel like they are going to give you charity and not a right that you deserve because you have contributed all your life by paying the disability insurance with your employer. I hope that the Government of Canada changes this insurance company in the near future.
If I can give a mark less than 1, I would have done so. I am very disappointed and started thinking about the value of paying long-term disability insurance.

Worst company ever!!!

by Lil on Mar 4, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

If I can give a minus I would. This is the worst insurance company ever. They lie about not receiving paperwork, they ask for ridiculous amounts of proof. They don't even trust the doctor's diagnosis. Took them 4 months to deny the claim for hyperthyroidism which is also affecting mental health. They don't even communicate with you except to ask for more proof and threaten to shut the case. They need to realize they are playing with people's lives.

This company should be closed

by Disheartened on May 7, 2020

This company is the worst company I have ever dealt with! I was off for a heart-related issue and received short term disability! When I returned to work the proper paperwork was sent in a month before I returned. They said they didn’t receive it and now are saying I owe them thousands of dollars! They don’t do their jobs and the people who are insured through them get the short end of the stick! Now I have to worry about going into collections because of their error. Unneeded stress for a heart patient because of their lack of attention. The person I was dealing with is very unprofessional and is lazy for not doing her job! And threats that came from them is ridiculous! Choose wisely and don’t get anything through this company!

Think twice before

by Tammy on Mar 12, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

Whatever you do if you take Industrial Alliance for health insurance make sure you apply right when you are born... Because if you see a doctor for any symptoms they will deny any claims. They are scammers... The doctor put me off work since December 2019 for heart-related symptoms but because I've seen the doctor in 2017 for pain in the left side and in the back and he made me do an ECG just in case it is not my heart they denied my claim because of pre-existing condition... Never been told until December that I had Ishema heart disease but they claim that I had pre-existing condition cause I had an EGC done before and it is an escalation of 2017 as the year pass...

What service?

I've been off work for 6weeks. I wasn't contacted till 30days after I went off. I was told they couldn't process my claim until I signed a release. They told me they would send a form for me to sign. Had to call them for 5 days. I signed it and was told they had 5 days to make a decision and it's been 8 business days since. I called to find out what was going on and my worker was off on vacation. Then I was contacted by another worker who absolutely lost her mind on me. I mean scream not yell SCREAM at me after I asked her why I hadn't been given a decision after 5days and that my file was not forwarded to another worker since the worker I was given was on Vacation. I've never in my life been treated with so much disrespect for asking why? I would never go with this company I thought the blue cross was bad but this company takes the cake. I was even refused her managers name.

Deeply Troubling

by John C on Apr 16, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

Thank God for this review board. I recently purchased a new vehicle at Coastal Ford Burnaby and was upsold on life/disability insurance through IA Insurance. After going home and reading the fine print of the AI contract, I was very troubled, I decided to dig further and came across their customer reviews. I was downright disgusted! I had to return to the dealership. Three times to finally get this crap canceled as I only had a 20-day window to do so. The cost of this insurance would have been $10,500, for what? To get the run-around and every claim denied as I've read through other people experiences... AI you are truly horrible, disgusting people to treat your hard-working clients this way...

Short Term Disability

by Not Happy on Apr 6, 2019

My employer uses Industrial Alliance, not a problem at first, Dental work carried out, receiving payments back straight away without delay. But in December I was at work and thought I was having a heart attack, I am pretty healthy overall so experiencing something like this scared the hell out of me. After a 6hr hospital visit, I was given the all clear, following day at work, same symptoms, shortness of breath, light-headed, and again couldn't continue. So after a doctors visit and more tests, we still could not get to the bottom of it, so after being off work for two weeks, and then another my employer sent off all documentation to our insurance provider being Industrial Alliance to get the process moving while still determining what was causing the issues that I was experiencing. So after 3 months of being off work, with medical notes going back and forth, and results of tests carried out, they were still not forthcoming with any good news for me, like they always wanted more. So after 3 and a half months, and them knowing I had a scope coming up and awaiting further blood tests, they denied my claim, without the results of the scope and the further blood tests. I have been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism, which explained all of the symptoms I had been experiencing, Industrial Alliance refused my claim even before the results came back, This is totally wrong, and I hope anyone thinking about using their services should think again. Passing judgment without the facts, non-communications after waiting months, Paying into an insurance company that is not there for their clients especially after what I have gone through really shows what they are like. They are not doctors, and should not be allowed to deny anyone what is rightfully theirs. The end result, not worth appealing their decision as they said I have the right to do as it will only be another 3 to 4 months of waiting for their so-called outcome. I am feeling better and looking forward to returning to work on Monday, and I will be sure to spread the word around work about this company and my experience with them.

The worst insurance company

by Unhappy on Jun 23, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

This is the worst insurance company ever! My place of employment has just switched companies and we are now stuck with IA. Unfortunately, my health took a turn for the worst. While my family Doctor is telling me that I need to be put short-term disability, IA is refusing to pay. Apparently, they know more about my health than my Doctor that I've had for years. Hard to believe when the person that has declined my claim has no medical background whatsoever. This has cost me a ton getting all the information they needed to not pay out after. They say your claim will be decided on in 5 to 8 business days, but don't count on it. If you end up having to talk to somebody, you can have a nap waiting to get off of hold.

Refused wage replacement

by Mary Loetkeman on Feb 9, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

I had wage replacement insurance through work . I received a neck injury resulting in surgery and permanent nerve damage.
When I filed my claim , I was immediately denied .
The company I worked for wrote letters on my behalf. The girl who was in charge of my case was rude , told me to not call her back but to call another person , which I did but no response.
Five years later , still waiting.Have a lawyer but industrial is pushing it as long as it's possible. Have qualified and receive CPP . Others I have worked with have had problems as well . Would steer clear and go somewhere else if you have the option.

Insurance company offers girl $8 for mileage to…

by CBC News on Nov 29, 2016
1 out of 5 stars
CBC NEWSThe mother of a 12-year-old girl who suffered a traumatic eye injury playing soccer is angry that her insurance company won't pay out because it says the injury isn't sufficiently severe.

Emily Laprise took a ball in the eye during a game in North Vancouver last fall.

She remembers falling to the ground, screaming in pain.

"I was telling them, 'I can't see anything! I can't see anything!'" Laprise said.

The ball detached the retina in her left eye and tore a hole in the retinal lining.

Laprise now sees double in the eye and doesn't have most of her lower field of vision.

"The insurance company says it's OK because 'She does have some sight,'" said mom Nancy Desrosiers.

"It's very frustrating, as a parent." Read more at cbc.ca
