Unacceptable Protocols

We don`t even get instant reimbursement for drugs, the system is a nightmare and they keep raising the cost on us, plus as truckers we have to pay the whole thing outright out of our pay cheque, the company isn't allowed to cover anything for us. we get nothing in terms of coverage and in fact they keep diminishing. And every time we put in a claim they mess something up and we end up owing them money. Its a scam. Stay away from Manulife. Although, judging by the reviews I've seen its looking like the industry as a whole is in terrible need of a clean up.
Keep denying dental claim because dentist in Ontario used Ontario dental codes. Employer in BC so will only accept BC codes. Got the BC codes from a dentist in BC and they still denied claim.
Canadians are free to live and work in different provinces, so this is a ridiculous and discriminatory policy.
Our money is better spent elsewhere, they always made it difficult to file a claim. I avail full benefits but it seems like partial to none.
1. Staff is not knowledgeable. Every time I've called the customer service person sounds annoyed that they had to answer the phone, have no clue what they're talking about.
2. Online claims take forever to process, previous providers have paid within 24 hours of submitting online claim, I have claims sitting for weeks before my measly 20% coverage is paid back to me.
3. Coverage is terrible at best, I know this has a lot to do with my employer as well, however it's unfortunate that a modern benefits provider would cater such terrible coverage.
No stars if I could. Agents barely speak English or French and do not want to pay when they should pay simple claims.
Worst decision ever, for my Employer to switch to Manulife. Every claim takes a week, then, usually, denied even though it's a medical expense from my health spending account. That's MY spending account, not Manulife funds. I call, then wait another week for payment. Happens every time. I can't even access the balance on the app or website...I have to call Customer Service about that too. Ridiculous service and I know other employees are having the same poor experience. Will not purchase any other, personal, insurance through this company and, definitely, not deposit any spending account funds here again.
My group benefits plan has an allowance for health care and an allowance for a health care spending account. Once I started submitting claims where the balance of the 80/20 spend was covered by the health care spending account they then started charging the entire balance to the spending account rather than actually covering any of the expenses themselves. This is frustrating because the balance of this account, if not used is transferred to the following year. I consider this theft. They would find garbage excuses to not remit the funds, requesting documents never requested before such as doctor's notes for massage therapy or physiotherapy or the like, and not accepting claims because the receipt is "registered counselor" vs. "guidance counselor". Needless to say, I will be encouraging my HR department to reconsider the use of Manulife in the future, this is a part of my compensation package and I am thoroughly unsatisfied.
My mother had group insurance with Manulife with death benefits. She started off on temporary sick benefits and then placed on a long-term. Unfortunately, my mother ended up passing away and I as her beneficiary went to apply for the payout and they told me she incurred it while alive. How can someone use up their death benefits while still alive? They won’t give me any more information either as I’m not the policyholder! What does someone do in this case has anyone experienced something like this before?
I've had coverage through Manulife several times over the years through different companies I worked for as well as once for life insurance. Each time an employer had benefits through Manulife it was awful. They typically do not provide packages that offer eye care or things like a visit to the audiologist. The coverage is also often very low such as $200 coverage for glasses. Well, good glasses from an eye doctor have cost over $500 for the last ten years. Or $75 coverage for an eye exam. Well, eye exams now cost well over $100. We've had to call a few times about coverage and they always put you on hold for extended periods of time and then come back and let you know that there's nothing for your needs.
The life insurance experience was atrocious. The people on the phone couldn't understand English and one woman thought that I told her I had tumors! I don't. Then another person lied and said we would be 100% covered through them for death and disability. They sent a package that showed we were preapproved for 100% coverage. Then after we signed up with them they sent another package that showed the underwriters had refused us full coverage and we were paying full premiums for partial coverage. Our broker working with us was very upset. We ended up switching to another insurance company. However, Manulife continued to withdraw funds from our bank account for six months! When I figured out what was happening and called the woman on the other end refused to refund the funds claiming that it was our fault for not calling sooner. I assured her that we would be blocking them from taking any funds from our accounts in the future.
Both my husband and I currently have Manulife as our insurance provider and I hope to be filing a complaint with our Human Resources group about it shortly. They're awful and I really encourage anyone who has a choice to go elsewhere.

A year ago, I used to be under a group benefit with Manulife with another trucking company where I had prescriptions for my diabetes.
I worked for a different company, then after a year, I switched companies again. This new company had benefits with Manulife as well. But all of a sudden, Manulife needs confirmation from a Doctor that I have diabetes. They told me it was because it was a new account. I told him it's a new account, but it's the same profile I'm the same person that you covered last year. Not very smart. I wish more companies would drop Manulife because if they're not in the business of helping people and taking care of those who need medication, then close down your business. Because they really don't care about people. They're not willing to work with anyone. Also you leave a message, and they say they'll call you back tomorrow. But it's been 4 days, and they haven't called back, and I bet they don't plan on calling back either until I call back frustrated! This is unacceptable. They try and make things more difficult so that you won't put in any claims so they can keep their premiums. I urge everyone to approach your administrator to change to a different provider.
