Frustrating

by A patient losing patience on Sep 20, 2023
1 out of 5 stars

I know we should be thankful because we get reimbursed for the expenses, but it is also frustrating how Canada Life processes the claims. When a doctor prescribes you something, it means you need it asap so you purchase it asap too. You have to be at your best so you function at your best at work. But most of the prescriptions you have to pay upfront and even visits to practitioners you have to pay upfront as well. I have made multiple claims and 2 months have passed Canada Life has not reimbursed yet. If they need additional information (aside from the documents already submitted) they could call the service provider or the prescribing doctor themselves to obtain that additional information. Probably the reason they tell you they need more info so they can delay the processing of your claim. 2-14 business days is not true. Just dont provide false information to people. You can put "2-14 business days or indefinite". Always remember that we are patients. We are already in need of medical attention/procedure/equipment so please spare us the frustration.

They never reply to email and / or message
their claim system over their website is not working for days
their claim system over the mobile app is not working
waiting time to speak to someone is 60 minutes facing the hangup after long wait

Is this a real company or just a scam

Terrible Customer Service

by Colleen M on Sep 11, 2023

My husband is a retired RCMP member and his plan was switched from Sun Life to Canada Life this year. Trying to talk to anyone over there is a nightmare. We are trying to get our meds authorized for the months we spend in Arizona. My husband has been on hold three different times this morning, for an hour each time, he is now on his 4th hour. After an hour, they hang up. I have been on the "online chat" and have been waiting over two hours. Horrific customer service. Don't use this company if you have a choice. They deserve no stars but I couldn't leave a review without marking one

Just Awful

by Annie Passiant on Sep 4, 2023

I see my claim refused and given the following reason for the refusal: "the provider does not meet our requirements". So fine, I now need to know what requirement is not met by the provider so that I may choose one that does meet the requirement.
I asked Canada Life to explain further, and it took them 4 days to email me stating that my "provides does not meet our requirements". How is that supposed to help? It is clear that no one bothered to look into the claim to answer a very legitimate question.

Never received a package regarding the change from Sun Life for the public service health care services. Our pharmacy told us we were no longer covered.

Awful service

Their claim system is awful and I cannot believe they didn't have any preparation for the federal government workers.
That is very frustrating.

Call waiting is 1.5 hours in general to talk to anyone for help and they are not helpful at all

New service provider for two weeks now and none will answer the phone or process a claim

by Public Service Employee held hostage by Canada Life. on Jul 15, 2023
1 out of 5 stars

Canada Life took over the public service healthcare plan on July 1 and since that time my pharmacy is unable to process a claim for me. Calls to Canada Life just leaf to a notice saying they’re too busy to answer the phone, the online chat function simply times out, and after submitting an email question I get a blanket response simply blaming the pharmacy for my specific problem (which the pharmacy has confirmed rice now is not accurate).

They have provided our dental coverage for years now, so it’s not like taking over the health component should be a surprise for Canada Life. There is no excuse for the inability to transition over, or at least have the people available to address the issues that arise.

If you are not forced to move to Canada Life, I certainly would not suggest doing so based on your own choice.

Worst seamless transition in history

File transfers from the previous company to Canada Life are incomplete, only my first initial was received by Canada Life, they refuse to correct it before July 1st, now it’s the 13th + no agents available at the toll-free dedicated line for federal employees. Their regular telephone line gets us an agent to speak with, however, they are unable to do anything for us + keep transferring to other queues which have 45 -60 minute hold times. Some people are being told 12 business days for any corrections to be done. In the meantime, 1000s of $ retirees will have to pay just for prescriptions not to mention dental fees. Their website + their app does not function either, even if you can log in the website gives corrupt file errors for all jpeg files that are submitted. No one to talk to + no end in sight!
