Terrible website

by Upset on Jan 5, 2017

I used to be able to submit claims online through their terrible website. Now the website is even worse, as they have taken away that ability. The only option now it to submit a freaking paper claim. What century is this again???

One of the worst experiences.

Sun Life is absolutely horrible.
I am submitting claims very fast, with the proof of payment and they intentionally delay the payment.
I have been audited this year on December 29, 2016 for a claim submitted on Dec. 19, 2016. The e-mail sent to me was again, delayed, and sent on Fridaym Dec. 30, 2016 asking for the proof of payment. They claim they did not receive my envelope. How untruthful! I've send tons of envelopes and the only one that did not reach destination was the one sent to Sun Life? In 10 days?!
It is possible to get under control this intentional delay practice?

80% = 0% Sun Life Coverage

by Lucas on Dec 20, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

My health insurance plan with Sun Life says 80% coverage for Orthodics which I have to wear in all my shoes and have to re-order every year since my condition worsens.
This year I ordered custom made orthodics that cost 500$. After submitting my first health claim of the year Sun Life rejected it with the classic excuse that somewhere in the contract buried with very small characters there is a limit of one orthodics every 24 months.
However, they never considered to post the same information on the website with my health plan.
Fact that I did not have any claims over the year was not an argument. Also, could not use any of the 100$/month I pay into my plan or to use the very advertised 'flex dollars'.
So now, just before Christmas I have to thank them for the 500$ debt in my account.
I feel like I was miserably robbed with no intend for help from anybody in this institution.
Unfortunately I cannot not choose my health insurance at work but I can witness how low this insurance company can go and how quick is to screw their customers.
I wanted to choose 0 stars value for money since this is what I got but unfortunately that doesn't work.

TERRIBLE! all together terrible.
Website is very confusing and cannot find anything, half the customer service reps don't have a clue what they are talking about.
Blue Cross is simple, customer service is quick and processes are easy.

Sun Life is scam

by Johannes on Nov 17, 2014

I came to Canada as an exchange student having an insurance which includes more services than the very basic services from Sun Life Insurance. Upon the request to be excluded from the University insurance as I do not need a second one which not even gives me additional services, I got an answer without any reasons to not be eglible for the exception. Upon asking what is missing I got no proper answer about what was missing and I was asked to bring proof for very small details of my insurance. I could proof that my insurance fulfilled all those details however I still didn't get a proper answer.
It's really a pity that people in such companies decide whether you are eglible to get the excemption, they of course will decide for their cause. There should be better possiblities to surveil companies like those. I hope some people decide against paying their money to such a company.

Worst Customer Service Ever!

by cantbelieveit on Feb 2, 2014

My fiancee was insured with Sun Life through her employer and we had a great package (medic, dental, life). When she lost her job, a Sun Life agent contacted her to offer us to continue with the same package but for a higher price which we found worth it. I gave them my credit cart information to activate the coverage.

When we received all our insurance details by mail almost one month after, we realized that we were not getting the same deal, not AT ALL. There is no way we would ever pay what we were paying for that kind of coverage.

We tried to call Sun Life many times and could only leave a voice message, no agents available. They would not even return our calls! We kept trying week after week after week, on a lucky day we would get to an agent who promised that someone more qualified would call us back. Never happened.

In the meanwhile they kept taking payments on my credit card. We also tried by email and kept receiving automatic responses saying they would get back to us in two days... which of course never happened. The last email we received was saying that our cancellation was under review and that it would be processed within 10 open days. 15 open days later, no answer yet and they took another payment on my card.

This is a real joke, I have never seen such a bad customer service. This is close to robbery. If you can get Sun Life coverage with your employer, fine. But never, NEVER deal with them as a private consumer.

You've been warned.

Worst customer service ever on the phone, they try to push you off the phone with their rude tone of voice, simply because they cannot help. Different answers from different reps and its all a terrible experience. Additionally the chat live agent takes forever to answer, and does nothing to resolve the issue. TERRIBLE

Ridiculous!

Money is erroneously being taken from my chequing account by Sun Life so I called them to fix the problem. I got passed from person to person, department to department. They are sure that a mistake is occurring, but can't figure out how to stop stealing my money. I've spoken to at least 15 different, useless people and have to explain my story every. single. time. "Write us a letter and we'll get back to you." No, they didn't get back to me. "Send a fax to Attention Ryan and I'll look into it". He hasn't gotten back to me and the next person I spoke to had the nerve to laugh and point out that they have dozens of Ryans. "I'll get back to you tomorrow afternoon or the day after." Nope, Beverley never, ever calls. Just stop stealing my money!!! Seriously, losers, how hard can it be. I finally went to the bank today and put a stop payment on it. This has been happening since March 2011. Yep. They owe me $6000 and I'm seeing a lawyer tomorrow. I'm tired of being polite. I guess 78 months is my limit, LOL. They never, ever, ever call back and rarely answer the phone.

Worst ever!

My employer uses Sun Life, so I'm stuck with them. I've even considered other jobs just so I do not have to deal with them. If I could give zero stars I would. Their interface is convoluted and their customer service is atrocious! No one wants to take any accountability and pass you around until you've literally spoken with a dozen unhelpful individuals only to have you give up in sheer horror and disgust. My partner has blue cross and I thought being treated like subhuman was the norm until I spoke with them once. Wow! What a difference!

Terrible Company/ Service.

by Sandy on Jul 27, 2017

It took them a month and a half to make a decision on my claim. Every time I would call I had a different answer - claim still being reviewed, sent to medical team, they would call me back, etc.... I had open heart surgery due to birth defect. Surgery was done mid Jan 2017. Before I was scheduled to go back to work I developed some complications with fluid going to my heart and lungs. After sending in about 40 pages of medical records, doctor, surgeon and cardiologist notes, their final decision was to deny the claim because " I was not completely immobile the entire time." - I "Started to get better....." This is what their medical team THE SUN LIFE DOCTOR??? decided. God help anyone that needs to go on disability if they are insured with this company. Horrible company and service. Don't know where they find their doctors. - But again their doctors are being paid by Sun Life. A month and a half to make a decision. Something is seriously wrong with that. If you are insured with Sun Life my advise is to change insurers. Lobby to your company and union (as I will do) to make a change. If you are looking for insurance DO NOT GO HERE!!!
