Worthless Dental Insurance

Horrible company. Refuses to pay claims. It costs more to to have them, then what they will pay for. The worst.
I am convinced that Sun Life purposefully makes submissions a nightmare with the hope that people give up and don't submit.
I sent a submission in by mail. They claimed they didn't receive it. I re-sent via Registered mail, and was confirmed received. They claimed they never got it. Finally, after being on hold for 45 minutes, I was given an internal fax number. This meant hours of effort, frustration and $50.00 in postage.
Submitting Collaboration of Benefits is also a joke. I just tried to submit $683 of alloawable expenses, all within limits online, and was reimbursed $18.00. This will now require yet another long wait and some sort of run around.
These are just 2 examples in a 7-year span of terrible service. It feels hopeless and is unethical business practice.
If you can avoid Sunlife... do so at all costs.
I broke a tooth so I went to the dentist. While I was in the office, I also got my teeth cleaned. I am covered 90% for emergency examinations and cleanings, which is what was submitted in my claim. Sun Life decided that since I had cleaning on the same day, I cannot possibly have had an emergency, therefore I was randomly eligible for only $38 out of the $144 I paid for the emergency exam.
Have talked to two representatives so far. Each one has a nonsense explanation that is inconsistent with the other and seems deliberately cryptic (something about a "recall" exam). They have no clear instructions on what I can do about it, and I seem to need to become an insurance expert, then coach my dentist through the complex correction procedure. I guess Sun Life would rather pay for 10 hours of call centre service than cover their customer the $70 or whatever I am owed. Life is pain under the Sun.
Since I got a new employer, I had to switch to Sun Life. I have had nothing but huge problems with them. After months of paying for a family plan, my fiancé had dental work done only to find out we had to pay all money out of pocket because Sun Life was saying that we were not covered. After many many calls with them, they finally saw that we were in fact covered and had been this whole time. Fast forward 5 months later and we still have not been refunded the money. They are now trying to claim that they paid us out. Incredibly rude cutting me off when I tried to explain what had happened. They do not listen, do not refund or properly cover you for multiple claims. I will be cancelling my coverage and will never deal with them again. I will go back to my previous insurance company which is wonderful, respectful and I never have issues with. Sun Life, maybe you should treat you clients with respect as we pay for the seats you sit in.

For a $215 dental bill for a filling and restoring a cracked tooth, they paid $19. I went to their webpage and put in my contact information so they could call me. Kept receiving an error that the phone number was in the wrong format. Tried every format except Roman Numerals and could not get past that error. Very handy error if you don’t want to talk to your customers. I wish my company hadn’t changed to then from the other insurance.
