Almost got killed a few weeks ago to no fault of my own someone ran a red and hit me at the intersection... deemed other driver's fault... The claim has been brutal... They offered a settlement on the phone and then told me to return my rental at the same time. My policy states vehicle replacement up to 1500 paying 69 dollars a month. Shows me a clause after the offer they have we have to return the car. A different amount was given first settlement... Not once asked me how I was feeling. So much more too long to write... I have referred many family and friends over 2huch are saying they will renew with other company...which I will be doing in May been a customer over 10 years with a clean record the stress they have caused has been crazy...
Never had a claim of any kind. I was hit in a parking lot and put in a minor claim for $3000. The claims advisor with Desjardins assigned to my claim has never responded to any of my email inquiries or voice mails. WATCH OUT on Rental Car Coverage with this company. I have $1500 of coverage and my policy states "In return for the premium charged, we will reimburse you for the reasonable expenses of renting a similar substitute automobile." They will only authorize a regular rental car, not a luxury class car if that's what you drive. In my case, I am issuing a formal complaint regarding this. I need a rental car for 10 days. A luxury rental would cost $57/day for a total of $570 vs $40/day that they are authorizing. They simply will not honour their own policy wording and provide a "similar substitute" vehicle. They will lose 2 auto policies and one home policy over a difference of $170. Claim cheque issued was for the incorrect amount. They are claiming due to some kind of transposing error on entering the appraiser's estimate into their system(s). Terrible experience with this company when it counts - on a claim. Would NOT recommend them to anyone.

We lost three vehicles due to flooding. Two were insured by The Personal, the third by another party. While the initial response was fairly good (as soon as the water dropped a local tow company came to fetch the vehicles), it's been downhill from there. The assessor took a week to see a car that had been *underwater* and decide it was a write-off but didn't assess the car that was parked up right next to it for another week because someone hadn't told him he had to both. We had full, for-new replacement insurance. It took another two weeks to get the settlement figure because they couldn't check a website to get a comparison cost correct. We finally get the settlement figure (which is the exact price on the website), and they forget to send the payment. Twice. They tell us that it's been sent to our bank as a direct deposit and will clear in three days. Only this was a lie and it was never sent to the bank. First we're told both cheques were couriered, then both mailed, then only one couriered - and that it had been signed for at "reception" so why didn't we have it (as though we'd lie about not having a cheque for $30k?) Turned out they had couriered one cheque to the wrong address, so we have to run around town trying to find who had it because they couldn't tell us. There was no "reception", it went to an old address that we had changed with them online, corrected over the phone when it didn't update, and then specified to them on three occasions was the wrong address. Luckily, we know the people who live there, and they were home for us to pick it up. They claim they mailed out the second one via Canada Post on a Sunday, but as of Friday, it's not arrived despite the mail having been delivered. They won't even confirm where they mailed it to, so that's fun. It also wasn't registered or tracked so I can't find out where it is. They lie to you constantly. They say anything to get you off the phone, with no respect to your time or the truth. Good luck if you want to speak to a manager to make a complaint about the constant lying because they will claim it takes 48 hours to reply and then never contact you. I won't shout at the call centre staff as it's really not their fault that their company is incompetent, but I've been lied by so many of them that it's hard to find anything positive to say about the experience. Actually one thing. They have agreed to pay us out, so that's nice. It would have been nicer if we had actually received the money as promised when promised. I'm starting to doubt the second cheque was ever sent in the first place. We are now without vehicles as the rental allowance has run out (technically it ends the moment you agree to accept the settlement figure, so in our case a week ago) NOT when they get around to paying you. So now we're out of pocket on top of everything else. Huh, turns out I don't have anything good to say about them after all. Avoid like the plague - we're recommending to our employers that they no longer work with this company.
My beautiful Audi A5 2.0 Quattro was a writeoff after being blindsided by a car doing an illegal left-hand turn right into me, just before Christmas! (Dec 21, 2018). Claims Dept Customer Service was top notch, professional, friendly, helpful, smooth from beginning to end. Reassured me, answered all my questions, provided a rental car, & stepped me thru the process to a quick, generous settlement. They assisted me with new insurance coverage for my next vehicle with friendly ease. Highly recommend this car insurance company to all.
Do you want to experience an official criminal activity? You got it. Get an insurance with the Personal and try to process a claim. I had 3 consecutive worst experiences. They lie to you. They will never process your claim. Update incorrect records. Not provide you with a rental car. Not send an estimator as promised. Blame you for everything. Long wait times. Repeat the same story to different people when you call... Move out to anyone who can do better as I am doing now...
I was in a no-fault accident in June 2018. During the claims process, I dealt with a very efficient agent at The Personal, who was accessible by text as well as by email and phone. It was initially hard to reach the company via their toll-free line at the time of the accident, admittedly, but in the end, it did no harm. I felt that the claims process went fairly smoothly. They sent my vehicle to be assessed at a local body shop (in Etobicoke) that they trusted, and that body shop was also easy to deal with. They covered my rental vehicle, not for terribly long but without issue, at least. My own vehicle was determined to be a write-off. The value assessed for my vehicle wasn't unreasonable. I received payment in our bank account once I completed my end of things - the agent gave me clear instructions on what I needed to do. This is my recent take on their claims process. Can't comment on the cost of the policy, except to say that it may not be the cheapest.
I am adding my observations of The Personal Insurance company for benefits to others. My vehicle was hit early morning and Police woke up us. The vehicle was hit from the back left side and it hit the back of a vehicle parked in front of it. My vehicle bounced back and its front right wheel was on the curb. The impact was very severe. The insurance company took the vehicle and told me that they will get the vehicle repaired. They provided me with a rental vehicle. They told that the vehicle will be fixed within three weeks. It took two months to get the repair done. The cost of repair was more than I bought the vehicle. They handed over the vehicle and after driving within shop parking lot we noticed that the front LCD panel was dark and back camera was not showing up. Asked manager about this. He told he did not touch it. He told he got a check from the dealer and we went there. They found wiring is damaged and that burnt the camera. After that we noticed the right side wheel was making noise, Parking Assistance light is flickering, right passenger door malfunctioning, front side bodywork was poor and some sections were left loose. We started complaining through email and leaving telephone messages for the claim agent but he did not reply until after 19days when they arranged the third party for inspection. They fixed some and the insurance representatives pretended these are wear&tear. My vehicle was fine, nothing was wrong before the accident. Now I have spent around $2000. That is white elephant now for me. I want to let you know never get repairs through insurance dealer. I asked dealer why you handed over safety risk vehicle to me and why you ignored these obvious signs you did observe which we are showing you. He says your insurance did not show the actual picture of this vehicle, so he did not check the complete vehicle. Insurance just told them to check apparent damage and hand over the vehicle. The insurance instead of protecting your rights just drains the money for others.
I had a very positive experience with The Personal when my car was hit and needed repaire. They extended my car rental to cover the extra time it took for repairs and were friendly and efficient all of the way through. Every agent I spoke with with was helpful at what was already a stressful time - much appreciated.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
Can't say enough to thank customer service for their prompt and personal service after contacting them re: damage done to vehicle during our severe windstorm . I was asked if vehicle was still able to be driven. Told them it was but bumpers had to be taped on. They told me were to take it for damage appraisal and that while it was being repaired they would supply me with rental for the period of time it was being repaired. Granted vehicle was not able to go for repairs until the end of august due to such high volume of repairs to other vehicles that were not driveable. I was completely satisified with this as i realize that rental vehicles are scarce during the spring /summer season and that repairs are done in priority. I received many calls from The Personal to see if everything was o.k At the time my husband was in hospital and it was a stressful time for me.They added my daughter to policy, at no extra charge, so she could take care of this event. Received my renewal for this year and it is a few cents cheaper than last year. I would recommend The Personal to anyone.
Firstly, when we first used Personal, we were impressed with their response, however, the level of support has significantly decreased to the point of being almost non-supportive. In January of 2021, my spouse passed away, which impacted me significantly from a financial standpoint. In March of 2021, another driver did an illegal U-turn on a two-lane highway, and into the side of my truck. The other driver claimed he was turning into a non-existent driveway when I passed him. The closest driveway was approximately 100m behind where I was hit. The next possible driveway was almost 500m ahead. I had video, I had pictures of where my tire tracks were, where I ended up in the ditch. I had a statement from a gentleman who was watching me from the driveway behind us. Personal accepted a 50% claim of the accident because the other driver's insurance claimed he wasn't at fault. I always assumed your insurer looked after you - that is unless it is Personal??? What I was told was that if both insurers don't take responsibility, it falls to the driver. I now had a claim that should not be there. I was given a rental car. I was driving on the highway and sustained a rock chip in the window - totally unavoidable. When I returned the car, because it had gotten quite cold overnight - the chip now became a 7-inch crack. Enterprise now claimed that the entire windshield needed to be replaced. As per my insurance documents - I was always told that I didn't need additional insurance for a rental car... Well apparently, what I was told after, was that I should have taken the glass coverage offered by Enterprise - Personal doesn't cover that. Even when you have glass coverage for a personal vehicle. That cost me $500. Following this accident (which I am still under treatment for); I was on long-term disability. This fixed my income at a set rate and I was unable to pick up additional work. I decided to retire, rather than return to work and received my final paycheque on April 4th. Unfortunately, my pension has not kicked in, even as of today and Personal cancelled my policy with them at the end of April for non-payment. I don't fault them for taking that step, I had no money to pay them with. However, today, when I went to get insured again, now that I am in a somewhat better position financially - Personal refuses to provide Comprehensive or Collision coverage (which I require for a financed vehicle), because there were two glass claims and one accident since 2018. We had household insurance with them. No claims. I have had at least six or seven vehicles listed with them... One claim was when my vehicle was stolen and all they paid for was a mechanical inspection in 2004. A windshield replacement in 2018 and the accident in 2021 and suddenly I'm not worth their business. They can take their customer service and shove it where the sun doesn't shine. I feel disrespected. I feel abused and I would not recommend their services to anyone. Thank God my lawyers are on my side and will look after me, where the accident is concerned.
