Will lie to not have to pay

by MamaB on Jul 4, 2014
1 out of 5 stars

I have an open claim with my auto insurance and it has been 34 days now and I am still no closer to an answer on this! My adjuster straight out lied to me about what the detective on the case said in order to hold the claim off! Cooperators still owes me $90 for a mistake on their end for not entering information correctly but everytime I ask it's going to be handled right away! I have escalated the complaint to a claims manager and am looking into escalating it higher again. I have been in a rental this entire time which they state they will only be covering $1200 worth of even tho it is their fault this is dragging on. I have already been in contact with a lawyer and all that but this is absolutely crazy considering the high rates I pay for my insurance!! Very unacceptable! I am seriously considering contacting local media to do a buyer beware story about this company!

Had to sue them

by Richard on May 22, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

I sued Cooperators Insurance after they refused to pay my claim to replace my car $14,000 and for medical expenses. Sent me to their doctors (4) who will say there is nothing wrong. I had to leave Canada to pay out of pocket for multiple spine surgeries. It was worth it. I can walk again. I was not at fault but was the driver only passenger in the car (ICE) on the way to work. You only have 10 days to serve the city responsible or you are no longer allowed to sue. In lawsuit number 7 now and this is back in 2011. Car Insurers only pay for 2 years and only 70% of your earnings. The medical system in Ontario is a joke 48 doctors and no help except pain management. You are only entitled to $25,000 in medical expenses by law which they will not pay unless you sue. I had to wait 3 years to get disability from the federal government I had to sue them too and you have to reapply every 10 years. Yes you win in the end but you will lose everything trying. If you are in a car accident your fault or not and can no longer work in Ontario your life is over. Your only saving grace is to get your own disability insurance to age 65 you will have to sue to get it and a large life insurance policy. Take care of yourself no one else cares. The car insurers only pay $25,000 in funeral expenses. This will not even buy a burial plot anymore. If the insurer writes off your car and says its only worth $2,000 and you still have a large loan on the car tell them to repair it that is the only right you have left unless they took that away too.

They discriminate against men

by No cooperation here! on Apr 7, 2015

Highway robbery -my 23 year son bought his own car and got a competitor quote for $2500 LESS per year on his vehicle. Now they are giving us a hassle about taking him off our policy because he still lives at home. HE HAS HIS OWN POLICY! We have been insured with cooperators since 1982. Absolutely no customer loyalty. Renewal time next month.. Buh bye!

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Horrible experiences

by Beckers on Jun 7, 2014

My first couple years with this company were ok but this past year has been awful! Added home insurance which I was told would give 20% discount to auto, instead my auto jumped $13/mo plus my home insurance. Called to get this fixed and was told the guy who was supposed to enter the info was gone and didn't do it! Glad I noticed something was wrong! Then some punk lights our car on fire in front of our house while we are asleep inside. I call the next day and a lady at Cooperators sets us up in a rental and everything til we are assigned an adjuster Monday. Adjuster is a very unhappy sounding person who you can tell doesn't want to deal with this. I give her the police report number and everything. She calls back and leaves a message that they are not confirming coverage because the police are investigating because it is suspicious (well duh it should be cars don't randomly catch fire at 4am!)! Then says we informed Enterprise you are responsible to pay the rental and go have the car towed to you or salvage and your responsible for towing and storage fees. Oh but whenever the investigation is done if you have the receipts we will pay for some of it! Can not wait for this to be over so I can switch companies!!!

Useless

I had a car accident and they kept in tossing me around like I was stupid. The left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing and refused to understand what I was experiencing. I am extremely disappointed and will probably not deal with them anymore. Worst insurance company. I wish there was a rating below zero.

Cooperators = Crooks

by Robert Jones on Sep 20, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

Never a good experience. I was a loyal customer for nearly 20 years. I always felt I was paying a little more than I should be, but never really shopped around. So I decide to stop in one day and the receptionist tells me that no one would be able to see me. After looking around the only people present are the receptionist, two insurance reps and myself! I came back later at a preset time. I asked for a review of my rates and my insurance past, clean record and never made a claim. No change or savings on my rates. So I checked with CAA and received a savings of almost $30 a month on my auto insurance and $12 a month on my home, with better coverage! Cooperators answer to this was to charge me even more money for ending my policy not on my renewal date. Worst insurance company ever, find insurance anywhere else! They take more and give you nothing.

Not happy with car insurance reviews for your insurance company? Get a quote across up to 20 Canadian car insurers and make sure that you do not pay too much.

Co-operators

by Shanrowe on Apr 5, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

Do not go with co-operators, they do not follow the legal rules for drivers. My husband has been with them for 20 years and as soon as a claim came up, they screwed us. I was accused of an accident that was the fault of the other driver and I has to be responsible for 50% and the other driver had 0%. The other drivers insurance didn't make him responsible and the other driver was responsible for this accident. I am with co-operators and I was screwed with 50% when I was not responsible for this accident. Also there no witnesses and no evidence suggesting that I am the person at-fault. The underwriters were rude. They hang up on you, they tell you nothing, they just assume it's your fault every time when there is NO evidence that you were at fault.

Worst service expirience

by Elena on Jun 17, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

We are new immigrants. Approximately two months ago we asked for a quote for car insurance and we received a fair price from Co-operators insurance. Two agents from the company gave as the same price according to the documents that we provided (driving licenses from abroad, clear accident records and driving experience).
We were asked to provide them with Canadian driving license as soon as we receive one.
Once we did, we came to the office, BUT...this time the agent said that a mistake was made by both of the agents (!), and the price should be twice higher because, they do not accept experience from out of the country!!! This is a total breach of a contract.
I have never saw a company this unprofessional .
Why do we have to pay a double price if it was not the price we agreed on? Can they change the price in the middle of a contract???
We will never do business with them again. That is for sure!

Crooks

by Furious on Jul 23, 2015

they are a bunch of crooks! I asked for a quote for my husband and they wouldn't insure him. Then they discovered that he wasn't insured on my van and conveniently took money out of my account "because he lives at the same address." He is insured by another company. Needless to say that I am cancelling all my insurance including my home insurance. They are ruthless, aggressive, lack compassion and understanding. I'm looking into the legalities around withdrawing money from my account without my permission. DO NOT GO WITH CO-OPERATORS! If I can give them a zero rating I would.

They only like you if you have zero accidents

by Daniel Wood on Aug 1, 2024
1.7 out of 5 stars

You apply to insurance to follow the laws of your province.
Though, you pick the insurance that you think will fit your needs best.
Especially when accidents happen, whether at fault or not.
You pay money into their program, hopefully for the coverage that aids you best.
This company doesn't care you pay them for their coverage.
They dropped our coverage because we are “high Risk” even though we also paid a fee for the coverage. Plus, we paid minimum rates they don't cover.
Then they tried to sell us to a sister company and then in a year we could go back like we'd want to go back to a company that doesn't want to cover us when we pay for their coverage.
Don't go with cooperators unless your car only sits in your driveway.
