Awful experience

by Masoud Azizi Malekabadi on Jan 27, 2024
1 out of 5 stars

I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction and frustration regarding my recent experience with your insurance company.

To my surprise, I discovered a cancellation fee of $224.27, which I find excessive given the short duration of coverage. What adds to my dismay is the deduction of the down payment of $397.92 for just 9 days of coverage from December 22 to December 31. I believe it is only fair to consider one month as 30 days, not 8 days, making the charge seem exorbitant for the period in question.

Subsequent to the cancellation by the co-operator, I promptly secured alternative car insurance, which I am now paying approximately $230 per month. However, your expectation that I pay $622 for a mere 19 days of coverage is both unreasonable and disappointing. It is disheartening to be charged such an amount when I am now paying significantly less for a month of coverage with another provider.

Had to sue them

by Richard on May 22, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

I sued Cooperators Insurance after they refused to pay my claim to replace my car $14,000 and for medical expenses. Sent me to their doctors (4) who will say there is nothing wrong. I had to leave Canada to pay out of pocket for multiple spine surgeries. It was worth it. I can walk again. I was not at fault but was the driver only passenger in the car (ICE) on the way to work. You only have 10 days to serve the city responsible or you are no longer allowed to sue. In lawsuit number 7 now and this is back in 2011. Car Insurers only pay for 2 years and only 70% of your earnings. The medical system in Ontario is a joke 48 doctors and no help except pain management. You are only entitled to $25,000 in medical expenses by law which they will not pay unless you sue. I had to wait 3 years to get disability from the federal government I had to sue them too and you have to reapply every 10 years. Yes you win in the end but you will lose everything trying. If you are in a car accident your fault or not and can no longer work in Ontario your life is over. Your only saving grace is to get your own disability insurance to age 65 you will have to sue to get it and a large life insurance policy. Take care of yourself no one else cares. The car insurers only pay $25,000 in funeral expenses. This will not even buy a burial plot anymore. If the insurer writes off your car and says its only worth $2,000 and you still have a large loan on the car tell them to repair it that is the only right you have left unless they took that away too.

Dont use the Co-operators

by iam on Aug 26, 2019
1.5 out of 5 stars

Do not use the Co-Operators! My company is in contract with the Co-Operators for a couple of years. They kept changing the policy without letting us aware of it. The coverage for all the Paramedical services such as Chiropractor, Physio, Registered Massage Therapy, Acupuncture etc suppose to be 100% with a maximum of $500/year. But they changed it into 90% without informing us. They are not even making us aware there are maximum $/visit. Our employees are not happy with them and we are not going to use them anymore once our contract is expired!

Never recommend

I had a small accident while I was doing delivery for SkipThe Dishes, I didn’t know that I need to inform that I was doing SkipThe Dishes delivery and I even did it for only a few days. I told these people truly that what actually happened. I told them I didn’t know about this because I am a new driver and it’s a 2 months old brand new Hyundai Sonata. They took a statement from 3-4 times and I asked them if it's not covered, please tell me, I will fix it. They didn’t say anything, they were saying we are doing verification, it’s been 28 days, I didn’t get anything and they didn’t pay for a rental. I paid 1000$ for that, and still, my file is pending. Whenever I ask them if they would send, I need these documents and I send right away and again, they take time to reply, this is the worst service I have ever seen.

hard time when you claim!

They didn't pass my claim because I was doing ridesharing at the moment. I had already informed them before one month of the accident that I was doing part-time ridesharing. They seemed fine with that at the moment and when the accident happened, they rejected the claim. I was covered by insurance, which was providing through LYFT, but they only gave me actual cash value as they didn't have OPCF 43 in their policy (car was declared as totalled). The car was brand new and was only used for two month and I had OPCF 43 and rented car policy in my Cooperators policy. They didn't cover me for Class 5 grand, therefore, I didn't get a new car and was in loss of 10 grand after everything because of all the accessories and aftermarket expense. I paid them for OPCF 43(waiver of car depreciation) but they didn't cover me for a penny and now I owe 6 grand to a bank and I got no car in my garage. I was right about everything and they didn't care about the customer who is broke.

Strategem, artiface, trickery?

Beware! If you have a physical injury, they will send you for an assessment with a "Doctor" who is not on your side, even though the "spin" is that it is all for your benefit. A "Doctor" I was sent to was a "creature" whose office had reminiscences of Film Noir, backstreet abortionist's "clinic" scenes, or the "mysterious" "Doc", sweating, with eye evasion difficulties, who "testified" in old Perry Mason shows. Beware!

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Sneaky

We are 20 year customers of the Cooperators, when they suddenly without prior notification increased the cost of vehicle policies by $500 year. The customer service representatives were misleading and would not tell us upfront about the changes to our policies. Finally I spoke with our account representative, just to be passed on to his "helper", who condescendingly went on to lecture me that "the losses of the few should be shared by many" - in other words, the Company had an increase in claims this year, so they need to up their rates to cover any potential loss to the Company, and to add to that they have so many clients that they were unable to advise them of rate increases - if you do not notice it, they are not going to tell you... Beware, you cannot and should not trust them.

Useless

I had a car accident and they kept in tossing me around like I was stupid. The left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing and refused to understand what I was experiencing. I am extremely disappointed and will probably not deal with them anymore. Worst insurance company. I wish there was a rating below zero.

Cooperators = Crooks

by Robert Jones on Sep 20, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

Never a good experience. I was a loyal customer for nearly 20 years. I always felt I was paying a little more than I should be, but never really shopped around. So I decide to stop in one day and the receptionist tells me that no one would be able to see me. After looking around the only people present are the receptionist, two insurance reps and myself! I came back later at a preset time. I asked for a review of my rates and my insurance past, clean record and never made a claim. No change or savings on my rates. So I checked with CAA and received a savings of almost $30 a month on my auto insurance and $12 a month on my home, with better coverage! Cooperators answer to this was to charge me even more money for ending my policy not on my renewal date. Worst insurance company ever, find insurance anywhere else! They take more and give you nothing.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Buyer be warned

My wife was in a car accident in 2015. Suffered a massive back injury, can't sit normally in a chair anymore due to pins holding her back together. I had a premium Auto Insurance coverage with over a million in coverage for rehabilitation. Cooperators does not assist at all. You need to constantly fill out forms and get doctors assessments before they provide any financial assistance in making life comfortable. My wife has slept on the couch for 2 years waiting for a custom bed. Every month, "we just need one more form filled out". Simply disgusting how they treat a human. You become nothing more than a case file and an expense. Buyer be warned, Cooperators has little interest in helping, just making a profit.
