Safety measures

Regardless of PIN, photo and other crazy measures to log in it will be you who pays for fraud transaction. Oh yes! Before you pay that fraud, be ready to be a ping-pong ball between Capital One "safety department" agents.

Don't waste your time!

by Gary on May 12, 2019

Decided, at last, to get the card because we spend a lot of $$ at Costco. Since it was associated with Costco (5*+), I thought it would be simple. But no! They got our names wrong and we have to fly to the moon to change that. Further, if I want to check my account online, I MUST have a cell phone; what rubbish! I don't want one, don't need one and will never have one. But, if I want to go online with my computer, I have to have one to get sent a text. 19th-century software. All they can say is sorry. Attitude is terrible - well why don't you have a cell phone. I do not have that issue with any other bank or CC that I deal with. Sorry, keep it!

replacement card

by nocreditcard on Oct 3, 2018
3 out of 5 stars

My Costco Capital One credit card was compromised and it was thus cancelled. I was told my replacement would take 7 - 10 days. It didn't arrive. Now I am told that it is 7 - 10 BUSINESS days AFTER the replacement is processed and in the mail. I might end up waiting for over 2 -21/2 weeks for the new card. A number of monthly bills are paid through this card and I am now getting emails re: cancellation of services etc. due to non-payment. My previous credit cards were rushed to me by mail or could be picked up quickly at the local bank or store. I never have had this problem before. I talked to Costco Customer Service about this and was amazed at the response I got. I was advised to have other backup credit cards, even to pay bills that automatically come out of my card with such cards. Sure, change all your card information for one payment!!! I was also told I could pay through my bank. I had to remind my Costco official that I did not have a new credit card number. AND, if I paid through my bank, the money would come out of my bank account, not my credit card. Bottom line was that I was told not to rely on a Costco credit card, but to use others too. Well, I might as well convert to one that I can manage locally. Thanks, Costco, for the advice!!! Looking at all these complaints makes me wonder if Costco doesn't stand behind their card, why should their customers???

Horrible service, DON'T GET IT

by Jake on Jul 21, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

Has been a frequent customer at Costco. Thought to give this credit card a try. Worst decision ever. It has been 3 months since I applied, still haven't received my card due to "logistic issue", at least that is what they called it. And none of the customer service or their manager takes the responsibility of fixing the problem. One manager even told me to go get another MasterCard, which is super bizarre. Yes, I am getting another MasterCard now, and I would recommend everyone to take that manager's advice. Go get a MasterCard elsewhere!

What a joke

by Paloma Navarro on Nov 28, 2017

I applied to get my credit card 2 months ago from Capital One because I’m a regular Costco customer, they gave me a temporary card and they were supposed to send me a permanent card, and I never received it, I phoned them to see why and they said that they had my address wrong, so they asked me again for all my information in order to send me another card and again I never received it, so I phone again hahahahaha and they said it was weird, so they send me a third one by express post, I finally received it and I phoned them to activate it and they said "Ok, everything is good now, you can use it", so I tried to use it and it was not working, I phoned again and the agent representative told me that they have to send me another one hahahahahaha I totally refused his offer and I asked him to cancel my account and everything, they have really poor and inefficient service... what can I expect from a small bank? Tomorrow I will go to get a real card from a real bank!!! It is disappointing and at the end of the way I don’t feel comfortable because I don’t know where my information is, should be somewhere in the city :(

Joke of a card

by Frank M on Nov 7, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

The Capital One credit card is a joke. I get it with an 8k limit but I charge around 40k per month on my Presidents Choice financial card. I was talked into this card at costco and when I called they said they could not raise the limit for 1 year because I am a new client. So I charged about 3 times the 8k limit by paying it off and charging again. I did that for two months and tired of that so I overpaid my card by 5k thinking it could be applied to my credit limit. Well I was wrong, I charged 8k and its been 11 days and it still says I have no credit limit left when I clearly overpaid my card by 5k. I call in and they said overpayments dont count and I asked how it could take 11 days after it said payment processed to apply it to my account. I am going back to my credit card and have applied for MBNA, maybe I will have better luck there. Costco should know that the company told me they are not in the business of giving credit and the card is only meant to be used at costco. Yikes, what a response from Capital One, a joke of a credit card company.

Better options out there...

by RJ on Nov 5, 2017
2 out of 5 stars

Reasonably good benefits but certainly not "Costco" worthy. If you are looking for a high end card that you can use for most of your purchases, look elsewhere - there are plenty of better options. The allowed credit limit on this card is ... well, what you would expect for a young person with little to no credit history.

My wife and I were totally floored following a short conversation with a Capital One representative.

We are in our fifties, own three homes, make close to a quarter of a million dollars and have perfect credit. We use this card for almost every purchase me make (from groceries, to restaurants, to trips, etc), consequently maximizing our benefits. We pay our credit card balance each month to avoid interest charges. We have other credit cards that we do not use with limits in the twenty thousands. Recently we wanted to make a furniture purchase with this card but could not because it would exceed our credit limit of 11k. Given our credit history, we figured we would be able to increase this limit with a quick call. Well, lo and behold, the Capital One representative was quick to reject our request. We were both shocked, a request from 11k to 15k, this is really not a big amount! And they call their card "PLATINUM", more like bronze! In the end, we made the purchase with another credit card, a sale that Costco Capital One lost.

We are now looking at other financial institutions with credit cards that would better meet our needs.

Capital One MasterCard BAD

by Scott on Oct 5, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

Capital One Mastercard has the one of the worst customer experiences on this planet we call earth. I honestly don't know how they are in business. Also, they have tens of thousands of 5 star reviews on their website. Do they know it's illegal to write and publish fraudulent reviews? I've been placed on hold day after day while trying to activate my Capital One Costco Mastercard. If I didn't like Costco so much I would have bailed. I fear Capital One is hurting Costco's reputation by offering horrid service while being attached to Costco's brand. In summary, Capital One sucks. They must hate their customers with a passion. Whey I finally got to a human he sounded angry. He was a man who hates his job. His hatred his employer, Capital One, their customers and life itself was clearly communicated through his tone of voice. Capital one must treat their employees as poorly as they treat their customers. My recommendation when applying for a Capital One MasterCard. "DON'T!!!" There are a lot of better cards out there. After days and days of calling them I still don't have an active card. Capital One Mastercard SUCKS! If I could give a minus 5 star review I would.

Customer Service

by Orleans, Ontario on Sep 21, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

I received a replacement credit card with a phone number to activate the card. When I called to activate on the phone the system doesn't recognize my credit card number, and connects to a Customer Service Agent. Every time the wait time is above 45 minutes and subsequently get disconnected. I wasted about three hours and couldn't reach a customer service agent.

Terrible service

by Mo on Sep 20, 2017
1.5 out of 5 stars

Terrible wait times just to activate a new card. The only message that gives me is that their time is more important than mine. Just hung up after two nights in a row to try to activate a new card. System was down last night, no idea what the issue is tonight as I hung up after a 30 minute wait time. With the high interest they charge, they should be able to hire staff.
