Customer service

by Dave on Aug 16, 2021
1.5 out of 5 stars

This company has the worst customer service. My card wasn't working with the TAP payment and I was trying to rent a hotel room ( which I reserved with my Capital One card) I entered my pin and it kept coming up as invalid or Insufficient funds my balance was paid in full 2 days prior to me taking this vacation. I was stuck with my family (wife, and 2 kids under 10 years old) in a different city with nowhere to sleep and when I called Сapital One CUSTOMER service, I was passed to 2 different agents the last stating she was a supervisor. I explained what was happening and her response was we can bump up your limit but that will take 3 days. I kept saying my balance was paid in full I do not need a higher limit, I'm stuck without a place to sleep and my card is not working. In the end, I had to call a friend to use their card to book my hotel (embarrassing) the CUSTOMER service is terrible and I DO NOT recommend this card. I cancelled my card.

Terrible Customer Service

by Dacre on Jun 4, 2021
1.7 out of 5 stars

My airline provided a refund to the purchased card but it was expired but MC declined the refund although they knew there's a link to the current card.
When I questioned got 2 options.
They would investigate and contact the airline for a refund to a new card... then they changed their position....now they will send me a letter to provide my airline for the refund......So I do the leg work for them... Lazy...

So my option is to proceed to cancel my Costco MC

I'm in the process of doing...
Lots of cards out there...!!!!

Terrible customer service

The Bay ended its credit card relationship with Capital One, who then cancelled my Bay MasterCard. I then applied for a Costco MasterCard. Meanwhile, The Bay reissued my platinum MasterCard with their new carrier. I’ve heard that Costco will be ending their relationship with Capital One this year. I want to cancel my application for their card, but cannot get through to a person on the telephone, when I call, I get sent down a black hole of never-ending “push this button or push that button”. Ridiculous.

extended warranty

by Regretful Customer on Apr 7, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

The only time I needed the extended warranty I was told that I have to send the product to the service center and get estimate of the cost of repair at my own cost and send that to them and then they decide. This is exactly opposite to what they say on their documents. But I don't waste my time with these none sense, so I canceled the card. Just to put it in perspective, I used to spend around 60000k a year on this card. I am sure they won the battle....

Pandemic hardship

by Ricki Toi on Mar 28, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

During these hard times, I find it hard to believe that Costco Master Card still charges 25% interest on purchases, and cash withdrawals. I called customer service about this, and they said they are working on this matter. That was five months ago, and nothing has changed. “Visa” was kind enough to drop from 19% to 10% and so forth with other financial institutions. Thank you Costco Master Card for your lack of support during this pandemic hardship

Customer Service Nonexistent

Have been trying to settle my late husband's estate with Capital One. Have been trying for a year and a half to talk to someone to settle this debt. Have phoned umpteen times, been on hold for up to 3-4 hours at a time. No one answers. Have sent letters of settlement umpteen times. No response.
Worst credit card company to have to deal with. Plenty of other credit cards out there. Do yourself a favour and choose another one.

Worst credit card ever

by StephanVoyer on Feb 25, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

Customer service is absolutely the worst I have ever experienced. Complete indifference to my needs and requests. I am a business owner with a net worth of almost 3 million... my credit rating is top shelf. Requests for the already too low credit limit to be increased are blown off with complete lack of respect and consideration. When asked to speak with someone who had authority, I was put on hold of an exorbitant amount fo time only to speak to someone who clearly had the same level of authority as the first..ridiculous. Today my wife went to use the cash back cheque, which is on the card that is in both out names on a Costco account in both our names, to be told she was not allowed to redeem it, since she was not me... What?? They brag on website about customers first? they don't give a shit at all..I have completely stopped using card, and have now cleared last payment, (because that's what i do with my bills) and plan to spend the cash back cheque, then I will shred the card

Customer service unacceptable

by Fed-Up on Oct 29, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

Customer Service on overseas calls does not even deserve 1star Policy. Capital One putting a block on my account that has been in good standing because they wanted to update their information on file. Unacceptable! Still after 3 days of trying to contact no success. Multiple transfers, disconnected, dropped calls and hang-up. If they want information they should reach out or send a letter. Sadly a forgotten talent. Getting me into account payment problems with my auto pays, small monthly amounts, that they blocked, without notice of any kind to me, well within my credit limit. If I managed my small business like this I would not expect to be in business long...

Unfair policy

by Lyn on Oct 28, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

They forfeit my cashback rewards accumulated almost a year cause I decided to not renew my Costco membership that expired near the end of the year. It will not be forfeited only if it expired after their January voucher issue date. This policy is unfair as there is no point using their card for purchases if Costco membership will expire before they issue the cashback and I decide to not renew anymore. I could be better off with other cashback credit cards than this. Disappointed with this policy and customer service.

Really half a star, at best.

by Lakehouse on Oct 17, 2020

Here’s our challenge with this card: Despite making a sensible request on two occasions over two years, we were met with a firm “no” and what appeared to be indifference. We use this card primarily for Costco purchases. In 2019 & 2020 we purchased relatively expensive holidays through Costco Travel. The Costco Connection magazine recommended using your Capital One Costco credit card to pay for Costco travel bookings. (July/August 2018 issue) So this is what we endeavoured to. When final payment for the holidays was due, the balances exceeded our card’s modest credit limit, so we requested a credit increase. The immediate answer was “no” - with absolutely no rationale given and minimal opportunity to escalate the request with a manager. This is despite never once missing a payment, having substantial financial means and a credit score between 800 and 900. Our requests (both times) were met with complete indifference. Based on our interactions and the other reviews on this site, it is a mystery as to how this company prides itself on serving customers. From their website: “We’re in the business of helping customers succeed with credit.” (Hmmm.) “For over 20 years, we’ve been offering innovative credit solutions which are tailored to the individual needs of Canadians.” (We are individuals but our personal financial abilities didn’t seem to be taken into account.) And, ‘At Capital One, we never stop challenging ourselves to find better ways to serve our customers.” (Really? Not our experience.) Based on the very curt response on both occasions to our requests, we think Costco’s Capital One Canada needs to do some corporate soul searching and perhaps realize they are not hearing their customers. In our case, we can use our Visa Gold card and pay off the holiday balance — no problem there. But we would have preferred to have earned the Costco points. That, after all, is the benefit of the card. I love Costco and their mission of continually providing its members with quality goods and services. It’s too bad that the credit card company they are currently affiliated with doesn’t do likewise.
