Customer service is horrible

by Fulty22 on Jun 28, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

After sitting on the phone for 1 hour waiting to talk to a human at the RBC Rewards call centre for the second time in one week I've had it. You can't be currently experiencing an abnormally large number of calls every time I call. When it is a pattern it should be considered NORMAL and you need to hire some staff. I called at 7:30am today hoping to get in.
RBC you are experiencing a normal level of call volume! Do something about it.
The service is brutal!
Do not get this card unless you want to become really frustrated.

Rbc VISA promos are scams!!

by Syca on Feb 20, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

Husband and I registered separate Avion cards at the same time. One of the very common promotions was 1st year annual fee waived. I got charged $120 annual fee the 1st time. When I called into customer service to inquire about it, they assured me that the fee will be reversed at the 1st year anniversary. I was reassured this on 2 separate occasions. After 1 year, instead of reversing the fees, they charged me another $120 and said the previous 120 charge is too late to be reversed even though they were the ones who told me to wait 1 year!! Complete scam!

Worst customer service

by reza on Oct 25, 2020

Booked pre covid in December 2019 for a vacation in May. Once lockdown was issued we followed their policy and filled out many forms and mailed it in. Followed up with them and customer service said we needed to do everything online. We then issued the claim online and they said it could take 15 weeks for them to process it. We waited patiently after the 15 weeks was up didn't hear anything. Called again and they said they were backlogged and will be calling us back in 10 business days. Nobody called, we then tried calling back to find out the claims department is not taking any more calls, had to speak to a sales representative who said he escalated it and we will hear from management in 48 hours. Has been 5 days and no one has reached out. Very frustrating to deal with, my advice is to avoid dealing with RBC, there are many other options to choose from with much better customer service. I understand that they are dealing with a lot of claims but have the common courtesy to call and update.

Terrible customer service

by fed up on Oct 15, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

Tried to do a business transaction for $5.99 got a card rejected message. Called customer service, talked to a robot to give my card number, waited 20 minutes on hold, spoke to an agent that could not handle corporate questions, was transferred and now waiting again it's been 20 more minutes on hold and counting. How about hiring more staff with the obscene amount of money you make?

insurance coverage useless

by D champagne on Aug 16, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

Trip cancellation insurance is useless, they have no intention of ever reimbursing anyone. Especially frustrating as they make you send them tons of paperwork and wait for months only to decline for some reason written in the very small print. Donā€™t even know why they even say they have this coverage.

Customer Service - hardly

by Nel M on Apr 22, 2020

They should call it the Disservice Department. At least those that call in will know what to expect. Called in the past had a similar experience recently. I left just about everything but the kitchen sink to verify the account. VR was not picking up my voice, yet all questions were answered. Unbelievable! Told I was "lucky to receive the service I received" What! Cancelling this card. No customer should need to bear this nonsense. There are plenty of institutions that want my business.

Not answering our calls

by Stephane on Mar 14, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

We've had flights booked for this morning and due to the current situation with COVID-19, our family decided to stay home. We've been calling Avion's Customer Service since 12:30 PM yesterday to cancel our flights. No one picking up, "the person you are calling is unavailable". If you look at their website, calling is the ONLY way to contact their customer service. I went online to see if they've posted a message indicating that they weren't able to handle the volume of calls, etc.. NOTHING. You are left on your own. Tried to call the airline directly, but says to call travel provider (i.e. Avion) to cancel, not the airline. We are here this morning trying to call again. NOTHING. Here is what we were expecting: we understand that there are probably challenges answering every call coming their way lately, but they should leave a message on their phone line. Currently, no one picks up. Or as an option, put a message on social media outlining your issues. We are so mad right now with this lack of common sense... my wife and I seriously considering switching to another reward card.

RBC Avion is the SCAM

by RBC Avion Sucker on Sep 9, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

Avion has turned to scam its clients even though they hold to the letter of the law they are still sly about their tactics. I scratched and saved enough points over 12 years to book two tickets for a once in a lifetime trip to Italy. Total points 130,000 PLUS a $1300 fee??? WTH I exclaimed! Well here is how their scam works. They tell you right off the bat, that taxes and SURCHARGES are not covered, but they keep saying that the 65000 points cover a ticket price up to $1300. They don't say base fair, they say ticket price. So client services, who are well versed in the tactic, explain that if you go to the detailed breakdown of the airlines ticket price you see base fare is only $392 (per ticket) and there is an AIRLINE CARRIER SURCHARGE of $530. So even though they've promised to cover up to $1300 they get away with only having to pay out $392 based solely on how they interpret ticket price and of coarse how the airline now breaks down there prices. In good conscience, they could've equated the surcharge as part of the ticket price but they've opted to be devious and stick it to us all. So after spending $130,000 to get 130000 points all, I end up with is being covered for a rather messily $784. Does that sound fair, no I don't believe it does? I'm considering weighing other possible actions or at least trying my best to bringing this out into the open.

No Customer Service fromMexico

by Frequent Traveler on Aug 15, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

BEWARE. Multiple frustrating issues. No customer service. This Avion card is not worth it. I have reset my pin twice at RBC after my last trip to Mexico and I still have issues. I called RBC twice, to sort out my pin and also spoke to the staff at the local branch. Every time Iā€™m abroad, it blocks my card. I notified them that I am going to Mexico. I am in Mexico now, and I cannot reach customer service. Called both numbers on the back of the card. I googled alternative numbers and to all of them I get a message in Spanish saying the number is not supported. You canā€™t rely on this card when traveling. But that was the point of getting it. Because of the points.
