Got this card after extensive research comparing numerous travel reward cards. I simply couldn't pass up the 3:1 and 2:1 reward rates. The first problem occurred when I was navigating the sign-up for the rewards site... took multiple attempts to secure acceptance of my typed-in info. Directions included in the welcome package were not clear. Started to rack up points and was ready to redeem for a hotel stay through their reward website. Took me 2 hours just to get the website to come up! Followed all steps to book the hotel I needed but the booking didn't go through! I was super frustrated by this time and called the reward centre. It took 2 days before I finally got through and in the end, nothing got resolved. The customer service is terrible!
My new credit card arrived in the mail, and about 2 weeks prior to XMas, my card # was stolen yet again, which happens about every 6 months. Calling BMO Mastercard, they just say no - they can't do anything. . . and over a week later, I still don't have a new credit card, nor would they let me talk to the fraud department. So, BMO Mastercard CALLS ME to alert me to fraud on my account, then won't reimburse me the amount I'm out UNTIL their "fraud department" resolves the issue = BMO Mastercard is fraudulent in not immediately crediting my account. I am looking at a different credit card now because of this rotten service, my number being stolen so frequently, and BMO not immediately crediting my account with my stolen money.

BMO reward dept.... Worst nightmare customer service (French or English)... even with escalation they don't do nothing... They don't give prime travel point for recognized travel agency!!??
Just got off the phone with the front customer service rep. Asked to speak to her manager/supervisor. Her answer: there is no one here higher that can speak to you, but I can transfer you to the daily banking services. Spoke to another customer service rep who hardly spoke English and again, I asked to speak to his manager. The manager could not do anything for me.... totally useless... when all I am asking for is to send me my final credit card statement!
Ridiculously, they want to charge me $5 to see my final statement. Unbelievable!!!!
The card was blocked for some absolutely minor reason. ID verification SMS did not come through until long after the customer service call. Now have to find a branch, and they are only open during the day.

Very poor customer service. They need to train their staff pretty well about their product and how to do the job well. Don't make any promises just to make your customer okay and don't get mad. Always double-check your job first before doing anything with a customer account, if you don't know what do to go ask your supervisor or whoever knows the procedure well!
I used to love this card for its benefits and customer service.
I have no idea what changed in the past 5 months but I've since canceled my card. No one speaks clear English - took over five minutes to spell out my name - two times, two different representatives kept putting "g" instead of "J" - the wait times are long, took 15 minutes to give my address where my card never came up.
After 8 years of being with BMO World Elite and a similar card for the business platinum level, I canceled both and went to another bank.
I am a medical professional with a perfect credit score. I had a BMO World Elite Mastercard for years but it started to fail me with the denial of my airport lounge privileges.
Hence I applied and tried their cash back BMO world elite MC and got my card 7 weeks ago. It has denied my purchase 3 times in as many weeks now. I called their number and waited an hour for them to answer and their "fraud analyst" cleared my card and promised everything should be fine from now on. So I went ahead and tried the same purchased again and got declined again for the second time and they blocked my card as well. Presently, I am still waiting on the phone they said it will be a wait time of 2 hours now.
So be forewarned, don't ever apply for this BMO world elite product, as far as I am concerned, it is a fraud product.

When you travel or do some type of charge online they block your card making you call and wait hours online to have the card unblocked. Completely done with BMO and this card.
Wait times for telephone banking is 1 hour to 1.5 hours. THIS IS ABHORRENT!!! This is a CONSISTENT problem with BMO Credit Card. Using COVID as an EXCUSE for ABHORRENT customer service is INEXCUSABLE!!! COVID has been going on for 2+ YEARS!!! If BMO has not figured out a solution to exorbitant wait times, I do not think I can trust BMO with my banking. This is sheer INCOMPETENCE!!!
