Bilked

I am so frustrated that I had been paying double the amount and the payments were never consistently the same. I added it up and I have been close to $200.00 a month for a couple who are young and non-smokers. Once I had begun to review other companies it was nearly half.

Class Action coming!!!! Scams

by SoUpset on May 1, 2019

Would you all be willing to file for a class action lawsuit against this company? It doesn’t seem that they do anything that they are supposed to and they just take your money.
My parents had been paying $75 a month for the past 20 years for life insurance, now suddenly they are told they need to pay $720 a month!!! Who can afford that?

#RIP OFF/SCAM

My mother recently passed away and we filed a claim for a small life insurance policy. The company has been very difficult to deal with and I've received many different versions of what needs to be done. Even after I finally got a packet from them in order for the 4 children to file individual beneficiary affidavits, I was advised by another agent that couldn't be done. Please note it was very difficult to get the original agent to provide the packet anyway. It is interesting to note that even the packet I received with a checklist enclosed was incomplete. We have dealt with 2 other life insurance companies and were pleasantly surprised by their responsiveness and customer service. I have absolutely NO faith that Canada Life will pay the benefits of a life insurance policy that my parents paid on for years. I firmly believe that if they do eventually pay benefits, they will do everything they can to make the process difficult enough that claimants eventually just give up.

Planning to get life insurance to protect your family, including children? Make sure that you get enough coverage. According to studies, it takes about $250,000 in total to raise a child to the age of 18 (and that doesn’t include any post-secondary education costs).

Appalling

Over a month to add someone to plan despite numerous escalations then denying claims.
Denying claims for prescriptions saying it's not a prescription.
Two months wait for claim to be told the website doesn't always take claims and they have no record.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE

by ESTELA QUIJOTE on Apr 18, 2024

They do not call you back nor answer back emails. It takes them forever to pay the short term disability benefit, and their manager nor the person in charge of your account have the decency to call you back.
If I can give them a negative star, I will definitely give them negative 5 stars!!

Misleading

You log in on their site, you have access to your plan and what is covered. You find the coverage that you are looking for, they ask for specific documents, you supply them with it, and then 4 days later they tell you your plan doesn't cover it. I don't know about you, but when I logged in it wasn't into someone else's plan, it was under my plan, and what I wanted to claim was there, so why is it there in the first place if I'm not entitled to it. If I'm not entitled to make a specific claim then don't have it available in my options, if I can't find it I would then tell myself that I'm not entitled to make this claim. The plan I'm under is with the federal govt. After nearly 9 months with Canada Life, I hope we go back to previous provider, it was much better in my opinion.

Did you know there is a 35% chance of developing a critical illness before you are 65 and 65%-70% chance before you turn 81? That means getting a critical illness insurance quote is no less important than getting life insurance. Your choice.

Good luck you will need it

If they were robots my overall reveiw would be better, because their app is someway functional and it looks like when a claim is automated, it works fast. Thus, human approach does not exist! If any claim goes out from the app or it's something higher than 150$ or for payment of sick leave, they make your life HELL!!! More than three years I have been paying this company through my employer since I had no choice, and when it comes to collect our money - efficiency is their word, but for the contrary, delays are long and they indicate that everywhere. Good luck and patience if you have to deal with them!

My Uncle passed away and they arent doing anything

by Kasra Asari on Mar 11, 2024
1 out of 5 stars

My Uncle passed away a month ago, before he passed he gave me his SIN number and policy number and told me I am his beneficiary for his life insurance. I called them 5 times since 5 weeks ago and they keep delaying things, 1st time I called they told me I'd get the paper work within 7-10 business days after I made a death claim, I called again 10 business days later they said it takes time, called again a week later same thing. Finally called again 2 weeks ago and they said if I don't receive the paperwork by March 8th then to call again. I called again and now they say I am not listed as beneficiary and that they will send a message to his agent to call me back. This company is disgusting truly!

HORRENDOUS ON ALL FRONTS. TRAIN WRECK

by Bill on Mar 5, 2024
1 out of 5 stars

CLAIM reimbursement time and wait times for agents on phone don't get any worse than this. Company is an absolute TRAIN WRECK. 4 endless 7 phone calls and 3.5 months later and no reimbursement sent yet for standard claim that we've done for years. Service gets worse /longer with each passing month. One Rep tells you 7 days after several past calls had reps saying the same thing. That was 3 months ago calls. They acknowledge the claim and nothing of in question but they just can't seem to get anyone to refund your out of pocket. How simple and quick this process must be but NOPE. Why don't you take some of the profit and hire competent people that actually want to work? People that have bills to pay and families to feed. Maybe pay them some real money to do the job correctly? Just a thought. This company seems to be very mismanaged or at the very least needs to clean house soon with employees. I didn't think the rating could drop much from a 1.3 five months ago but sure enough it's now 1.2/5.

Did you know that mortgage insurance is the same as life insurance but more expensive and offers less protection? By cancelling it and getting life insurance, you would typically save around 30%-40% for the same coverage.

Claim processing

Why are customers/plan members waiting 2 months for claims to be processed. I would never recommend Canada Life to anyone.
