Canada Life does not pay

by anomoysis on Feb 11, 2015
1 out of 5 stars

Scotia bank sold coverage to us on our mortgage and Credit lines. When my spouse passed away and I submitted my claim Canada Life decided they were only going to pay a portion of the claim. They "averaged" our line 12 months prior to my spouses diagnosis and that's all they would pay. When we spoke to our bank rep who sold this insurance to us they had no idea of this averaging by Canada Life. If the reps at the bank are not updated on the rules and they are the ones pushing this product down their customers throats is the bank not liable for our lose?Canada Life will not return phone calls and have left me with a large loan to pay. I will be forced to hire a lawyer to hopefully get my claim paid. DO NOT ever let the bank talk you into mortgage insurance--go get term from a LICENSED insurance Broker.

Canada Life is a scam, period.

I've recently helped my parents dispose of a life insurance policy and the disposition date was in late May. The insurer wanted after the disposition date was cleared and sent to CRA, that they will withhold money until the insurance holder can prove whether he is a resident or non-resident. That they waited until the form can be processed for three months before surrendering money in September is one problem, that they still collected for those three months for the policy that was already disposed of in May is another, more dastardly move. They just swindled the policy owner who dutifully paid the premiums for more than a decade out of half a thousand dollars. I will tell everyone that this company is a scam and a fraudulent business.

Did you know there is a 35% chance of developing a critical illness before you are 65 and 65%-70% chance before you turn 81? That means getting a critical illness insurance quote is no less important than getting life insurance. Your choice.

Total scam! They will sign you up for insurance protection on your Walmart MasterCard without letting the customer know and charge you ridiculous amount every month. When you call them to cancel the plan and ask for a refund, they won't give you a refund! Instead, they threaten you to be careful of the way you talk to them because everything is recorded!!! They don't value their customers and they only want to run away with your money!!! Stay away! This is a SCAM!!!

About 7 years I payed life and health insurance for me and my wife. Canada Life did not pay me any red penny when my wife died, did not pay me when I lost vision on my right eye, did not pay me protection for credit line. This is extremely bad company. I do not advise to anybody pay them any money. Can somebody help me with good lawyer to start claim this company in court?

Very difficult to submit claim

by Ruth on Sep 12, 2023

I waited four hours on the phone and at the end, they hung up on me. Being the tenacious person that I am, I am not giving up. I suffer from ehlers danlos. I need physical therapy and I have to discontinue till I can reach them and deal with coverage.
This is very stressful. I am in disbelief at how difficult this is.

Did you know that if you are a 30-year old male, a term life insurance policy for 20 years with coverage of $200,000 will cost you around $19/month? Getting your term life insurance quote today will allow you to benefit from a great rate.

Contradictory & inaccurate

My plan has always covered dental polishing every 3 months. This year, Canada Life began denying claims for polishing in less than 6 month increments, and their emailed explanations directly contradict the my eligible dates in my Canada Life account. Service was good for many years but has become absolutely terrible.

Incompetent and useless

by Fed up and annoyed on Sep 11, 2023

Canada Life should be embarrassed by its dreadful service. I have waited weeks for reimbursement of a simple routine dental appointment. Today I received a letter in the mail saying that they couldn’t proceed with the claim as additional information is required. Such stupidity... Their incompetence is to blame as they have all the correct info but now want a paper claim submitted so it can be ‘promptly’ assessed. What a pathetic joke. Wish I could give zero stars but that doesn’t seem to be an option.

Archaic Practices

They could not handle automatically merging my PSHCP and dental accounts automatically because of slight differences between my two accounts.

Why didn't they test the merging before the switchover? They would have found that thousands of accounts would not be successfully merged.

The causes of the failed merges are not complex or varied. Merging could easily be automated. Instead, they are forcing employees to call in and get their accounts merged manually.

Once you sit on hold for 60 minutes or more, they submit an internal form that will lead to your plans being merged within two weeks or longer.

Horrific service both online and on the phone

We recently moved from Sun Life to Canada Life from the Public Service Public Health plan and we have been unable to put a claim in the system for days (the system is down or just keeps spinning) and there is no one to answer the phones, it keeps on saying to call back later.
Terrible service.
