Misleading

You log in on their site, you have access to your plan and what is covered. You find the coverage that you are looking for, they ask for specific documents, you supply them with it, and then 4 days later they tell you your plan doesn't cover it. I don't know about you, but when I logged in it wasn't into someone else's plan, it was under my plan, and what I wanted to claim was there, so why is it there in the first place if I'm not entitled to it. If I'm not entitled to make a specific claim then don't have it available in my options, if I can't find it I would then tell myself that I'm not entitled to make this claim. The plan I'm under is with the federal govt. After nearly 9 months with Canada Life, I hope we go back to previous provider, it was much better in my opinion.

Denied my claims on my PERSONAL HEALTH PLAN, in which i have $500 to use “freely” for stuff that isn’t covered (which is literally everything, there is terrible coverage with this company).
Im now $500 in the hole from PHYSIOTHERAPY that was supposed to be covered!

Did you know that one in three Canadians, on average, will be disabled for more than three months before they turn 65? Get a disability insurance quote today to make sure your income is secure, even when you are temporary disabled.

Terrible Service

They do not appear to care about customer service (i have been on hold for a long time, every time i need to call, clearly they do not appreciate that I too have things to do with my time, if I email them a question, it can take a month to get a response from them) They also don't seem to care about mental health, their coverage for mental health is extremely limiting only allowing for a psychologist appointment and doesn't allow for certified cognitive behavioural therapy, this is an antiquated way to do things.

JUST DON'T

This is the absolute worst insurance company I have ever had to deal with. I've spent hours and hours on hold (when I can even get them to put my call in the que.) I asked what they would cover and they only said what they wouldn't cover. They sent an email saying they want more information and to check my account. I check my account and they want me to call. I'm wasting my life on hold with this of a unprepared, unprofessional, uncooperative, uninformed, useless company. If you have a choice, just say NO. I want to give 0 stars!!!

Waited from 8:30am to 1:22pm on the phone to talk to someone just for an automatic message that say they can’t take the call and to try again later. I will need therapy after this lol and cheap as they are they won’t actually cover 80% because their estimate cost for any kind of services is ridiculously low. Canada life is by far the worst company i have ever dealt with.

Did you know there is a 35% chance of developing a critical illness before you are 65 and 65%-70% chance before you turn 81? That means getting a critical illness insurance quote is no less important than getting life insurance. Your choice.

Contradictory & inaccurate

My plan has always covered dental polishing every 3 months. This year, Canada Life began denying claims for polishing in less than 6 month increments, and their emailed explanations directly contradict the my eligible dates in my Canada Life account. Service was good for many years but has become absolutely terrible.

AWFUL

We recently submitted a claim for a medication. The first time we filled it, the out-of-pocket cost was approximately $17 which wasn't too bad. Not even a month later, we refilled the prescription and the out-of-pocket cost was now $22. Upon further review, Canada Life came up with silly reasons about why they didn't cover more. The same exact cost was submitted for the claim on both prescription refills and the same dispensing fee. Our plan is to cover 80% of this particular medication. The medication cost is $50.56. The dispensing fee is $7.49. Canada Life paid $35.71. Out-of-pocket was $22.34. But then about three weeks ago, I ordered the exact same medication (same DIN and manufacturer) and the costs were all the same (medication was $50.56, the dispensing fee was $7.49 and insurance paid $40.21... so out-of-pocket was $17.84) HOW? So Canada Life doesn't actually cover 80%. It's cover what they want to cover and that's that.

Absolute scam

Don't even use this company. The coverage is horrifically low for the premiums charged.
The worst insurance I've ever had.
If you make any changes to your account make sure you call them, again and again, to ensure they have it correct or they will cancel your plan and still randomly expect you to pay that first month they waved ever so nicely, in the beginning, absolute scam company. Beware!

Planning to get life insurance to protect your family, including children? Make sure that you get enough coverage. According to studies, it takes about $250,000 in total to raise a child to the age of 18 (and that doesn’t include any post-secondary education costs).

Declined a claim EVEN after calling in and verifying that it would be covered.

My plan covers "Psychotherapy".
I called in advance because I wanted to check that this particular Psychotherapist would be covered. They confirmed that she was, after checking her credentials in their system.

After 4 weeks (and over $1000) spent on this service, I finally found out my first claim was rejected.

I phoned to ask why and they couldn't answer. I asked to speak to the adjuster, and they said they have no way of contacting them. They are claiming that a "CCC" (Canadian Clinical Counselor) is not covered, despite this being the official designation for psychotherapists. There is no such thing as a "Certified Psychotherapist" - the CCC literally IS that designation, issued by the governing body in Canada (CCPA).

Unbelievably frustrating. Hopefully, they'll correct their mistake but it shouldn't be this painful to actually have your insurance covered.

What an absolute crock.
