Worst insurance I have ever had as a customer as well as dealt with as a provider. Everything gets denied, they send you false information and give incorrect information over the phone, and if you ever try to resolve anything they give you answers that don’t apply to your specific situation. I have never had such a bad experience with another insurance company. Runaway, if it all possible, from this scam of an insurance.
Totally the worst heath insurance provider. I've been paying for 18 years and have never had a claim for physio or medication covered and now they won't cover my dental,
in my time as a member if I had saved the premiums i could have a complete new set of implant teeth and a holiday in Mexico and still had change. I feel I've been conned by this company.
How is it legal to charge 3500 over a 2 year period and only cover 200 in contact lenses and the rest I pay out of pocket? And how is it legal to FORCE employees to pay for this with no choice? It's blatant robbery.
A few months back, I enrolled in extended health insurance provided by Blue Cross through my employer. While having this coverage for medical expenses not covered by my provincial health card (OHIP) brings relief, dealing with Blue Cross can be quite intricate.
For instance, one of the medications I require isn't automatically covered by Blue Cross. To seek coverage, I had to provide a form to my doctor for completion and fax it to Blue Cross for approval, with the possibility of receiving compensation. It's been two months since my doctor's office sent the form (and I paid a $50 fee for it), yet there's been no response whatsoever. It's frustrating to speculate whether their silence is due to a reluctance to pay.
In my opinion this called health insurance is good for nothing. The only thing that is clear is how much to pay but for what, only God knows.
There are also hidden fees non declared for different reasons.
Did not cover my ‘basic’ drug needs, then required me to have my doctor complete a comprehensive medical audit with 2 years of clinical notes. Benefits were suspended until audit was returned and ‘reviewed’ (no dates given). I immediately cancelled my policy, but not before taking another month fee and future dating my cancellation. So I paid without the possibility of a claim for an entire month. Tried to complain and escalate - denied. PLEASE, FIND ANOTHER INSURER!
The sales rep that signed me up blatantly lied about my coverage. I asked for two items - dental and optical. I wait 3.5 months to go for an eye exam and when I get I go to pay, my Alberta Blue Cross has NO COVERAGE?! So basically I paid hundreds of dollars in payments, yet I do not have coverage?! Insane. The sales rep also would not return my calls and emails. I guess once they sign you up, they are done with you. When I called in and spoke to another customer sales rep, they convinced me to an upgrade. However when I found out I did not have the coverage I asked for, I asked them to just cancel the plan. She said they require a letter and it would take over a month to go into effect. So basically, keep paying for absolutely nothing. It's unfortunate that these huge corporations can get away with that.
They will call you to set up a plan, the premium looks good.
But then they will have you called by an assessor, and even if you are honest and fair, they will find a way to either exclude something from your package or bump your premium up.
In my case, they looked at a medication. Then they did not contact the doctor that prescribed it, which is easy enough to do, but went ahead and excluded all mental anxiety and depression medication in the future, because they make you out to be a liar and somehow say the medication you are taking falls in that category.
In a time when mental illness has become the world's biggest problem!
Do not sign with the Blue Cross!
They are untrustworthy and make you out to be a liar.
I have Blue Cross through my employer. My feedback here might seem to not affect Blue Cross now but I hope one day all of these feedbacks get cumulated and will have an impact on the employer's decision on switching insurance.
I recently switched jobs and I used to have orthotics coverage with a max amount of certain dollars. My job changed in February so I called Blue Cross and asked if I pay a deductible in January, whether my deductible will be transferred. The lady I talked to said it won't so I will have to pay another deductible when I start my new job so I waited. I got my new job, and now Blue Cross is saying that not only my deductible could have been transferred but now I won't even be able to claim my orthotics.
Blue Cross, train your staff well as their lack of knowledge affects people's lives.
I asked for a supervisor to follow up so let's see what they say...
I didn’t choose this so-called insurance company, my employer did! 20 years of dealing with poor coverage, poor services, kept on hold for 40 minutes, for this insurance to barely cover anything, most of the time I’m paying out of pocket so sad for working class people!! 5,940 per year covers 168.00 eye care, 1000 for dental which is a joke! Medication only 40% the cost doesn’t justify the means. Now I’m looking at a dental bill of 7,300 to 13,300 guess who has to pay this out of pocket? So why have Blue Cross?
