Cancellation

by Pissedoff on Sep 14, 2023
1 out of 5 stars

Called these people in January about canceling my policy as I wasn’t happy with their services, they refused to cancel when I called in January. They then turned around in February and cancelled the policy claiming it was for nonpayment, because of this I’ve been getting problems trying to get insurance through another insurance company. I’ve been calling them every other day for almost a month now and all I keep getting is a manager would get back to me. Finally spoke to a Manager on Tuesday and he then told me he would get back to it’s Thursday I need to get my car back on the road and it’s like it’s a game to them. Called 3 times today first call 11:50am it’s now after 2:30pm and everytime I call managers just happen to be in a meeting.

Ignorant

On April 14th I severely damaged my motorcycle and called Economical to advise them however I also told them I was going after MOT as it happened on a 400 series highway as I had hit a huge pothole.
Shortly after, while I was away out of town representatives of the insurance company had my bike removed by a tow truck from my buddy’s motorcycle shop without my permission. I was told that they could not reach me after numerous attempts while the tow truck was there and they became very argumentative with him… They released the bike as they were afraid of retribution…..note the pattern of bullying!! Upon my return, they would not tell me initially where it was. I still had the ownership in my possession.
The adjuster then decided to continue to bully me. First by treating my call as a claim. Then he asked me if there was anyone in the “ back seat?” and furthermore told me it was all my fault as “ the roads don’t move”… Obviously having never heard of expansion joints or frost heaving.
Shortly after the incident a highway patrol officer pulled over in his SUV and after telling me he was a motorcycle patrol officer as well, told me he too hit the huge hole and his whole SUV shuttered. He then proceeded to survey my bike’s damage and then looked at me and stated quite calmly…” How did you ever manage to not drop the bike?… You should be dead or in a wheelchair”… 55 years of riding many a different motorcycle…do you think maybe skill?
As I had mentioned the bike was severely damaged but by no means not repairable. I was never given the opportunity to discuss the possibility of re-acquiring it. Instead, the adjuster first sent me a third-party evaluation of the damage and it wasn’t even the same bike, it was some bike in Quebec with twice the mileage and not an ABS/FA model. These two representatives, ignorant people proceeded to bully me and as they had literally stolen my bike I found myself in a non-negotiable position.
One of them then offered an insulting settlement based on a third-party report and I was very clear that whoever was providing the evaluation had no idea what they were talking about…. 1) wrong year of a similar bike 2) wrong mileage 3) even to go so far as to prove their ignorance by claiming it was not the top of the line ABS/FA model… which I attempted to correct them but ran into more bullying. I even sent them a picture of the bike without the luggage bags attached but with the racks showing very clearly and told her” I prefer to ride my bike naked, a common term in the motorcycle industry and I got back a retort “Do not talk to “my” employees like that”…. Obviously showing off her insecurities and ignorance all in the same sentence. The adjuster then told me that I was welcome to seek other similar bikes as mine but I wasn’t permitted to use Marketplace or Kijiji…. do you think he was being guided….it was obvious he was out of his league. How insulting/ ignorant is that? … so I used other websites and provided them with proof that the bike was worth much more by sending him/her the ad links. Get this!… No more value discussion from either one… Two days later I was told that I now had to hire, at my cost, an independent motorcycle appraiser and once I had the appraisal an arbitrator would make the final, binding decision. Realized at this time I still did not know where my bike was and I still had the registration in my possession.
I have never been so poorly treated in all my 70 years. Economical/Definity is a terribly run company with absolutely the rudest, untrained persons on the front line….
The CEO should be tarred and feathered…

I have all the correspondence between adjusters, my broker and my wife in print… It’s no wonder that there is a huge disclaimer at the bottom of every email… pathetic humans.

Worst customer service

The worst customer service that I received in Canada. I had an auto claim and the claims advisor told me she would reach out to me after 15 minutes of our phone conversation. I haven't heard back anything from her even after leaving 5 voicemails and 3 emails. She never picks up the call when I try to reach her or call back. It's been already one month since I have been trying to get in touch with her. Never go to this insurance company ever.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

My car was written off 2 months ago. I have yet to see my settlement and the representative I have been dealing with is very unhelpful, doesn't seem to know what's going on, and has such poor grammar and English skills I cannot understand half of her emails. When asking questions she ignores the ones she doesn't want to answer. Will never use them again even if they are the best price.

Auto Claim

by Hamed on Jul 24, 2023

If it had less than one star, I would have picked it up!!!
Economical Insurance claim is horrible!!
They pay you out for a total loss at least 30% lower than a market, claim team reply your emails every other 3 days for an urgent situation!! They don’t accept any of your expenses on your car claim whereas they have the same items in their acceptable expenses template!!! No phone call will be answered!!
No message calls will be returned!!!
They just want you to pay you at all!
If you have an auto claim with Economical Insurance, then good luck!

The worst insurance company ever...

They do not return calls or emails, took them a month to let me know that my car was a write-off. No fault to my wife who was driving, only had 1400km on it (two weeks old) and they want to pay me 10,000 less than what we paid for. We even have a depredation policy on cars. Took two more weeks (with me calling and emailing after a week) before they would pay the full loss of the car. Will not pay for car rental until we get a new car to replace the one we lost. Or any other cost, interest on a loan, registration cost to transfer to a new car. So if there are like that with you at no fault, what are they going to be like if it was your fault? They sent out a letter to pay another 250 bucks right after the accident. So I paid it, but once my year is up, I will never deal with them ever. I would like to cancel my insurance, but only for two months now with an insurance policy, so they would screw me hard if I canceled now. But I might just be the point of it all.

Worst underwriter ever

Had a total loss and had a rental for almost 3 months. My insurance is through Sonnet but Economical deals with all the claims. Been going back and forth and my adjuster will not call me back. When I did get a call back it was more delayed. Finally came to a settlement and the adjuster said they would issue a check and that it would arrive on May 16, 2023. It is now May 18 and when I called they said no check has been issued. Horrible adjuster!

You can phone, email or text. They will never return your correspondence. Terrible service when they say they will walk you through a claim. They won't.

They were flexible and with my help agreed to not write off my Audi A8

by Kevmisch on Feb 4, 2023
4 out of 5 stars

I bought an Audi A8L for an incredible price in the US and did all the paperwork and steps to import it to Canada myself. Was in mint shape. One winter an exhausted snow plow Pickup Truck worker doing parking lots at night turned onto a street as I followed him. Then suddenly put his trick in reverse and I could not do anything but slam on the horn but by the time he reacted he drove into the front corner of my Audi. It looked pretty darn minor with a dent to the front fender and a broken headlamp. Under the hood the washer fluid canister bracket was bent, some hoses were scuffed, some wrinkling of the inner wheel well, and the front bumper was damaged and scraping. Then came the shocker!!! The damage repair bill was around $12,000.00. Yes I know it is a $108,000.00 retail car new but my car was already 5 years old. I only paid around $43,000.00 Canadian for it at 4 years old. Like I said a killer deal. So I begged my guy at Economical to please not write it off. He said I am sorry but his guidelines dictated that they could not pay to fix the car at that age and with that amount of money. I was perplexed. This car looked like it had very little damage. I said how could this car be written off and taken off the road? Then I asked myself the same question in my mind... how can the repair cost around $12,000.00? went back to the auto-body shop that was expensive I admit as they specialized in premium cars (Audi, Mercedes BMW) and specialized in Aluminum Body vehicles. I said to them the insurance is going to write off my car! I cannot let this happen. I asked the body shop what on earth is making this repair bill $12,000.00??! They replied, "When we fix a vehicle, we bring it right back to the way it was on the dealership lot". I said what do you mean. He pointed out some A/C hoses that literally had some tiny scratches in them from the washer canister metal holder. He said these hoses get replaced. He showed me some very minor creases on the inner wheel well that did not affect the way the car ran, or handled or had anything to do with bad alignment. He said this needs to be bodywork repaired. he said the canister mount needs replaced. And a number of other small scuffed parts or slight dents or crinkled items that all get replaced to Brand New. I said listen, What if you leave the hoses, just bend back the small bend in the washer tank mount, leave the tiny crinkle and small dent in a panel under the hood. And a few other things. I said I only want replaced/repaired external things that affect the ascetic look or performance or handling of the car back to new. IE: New hood, New fender, new bumper, new side moldings, bend the holder frame back, I said I did not care about small scuffs in rubber hoses, or a tiny dent not affecting the car at all. Heck who will look under the hood and say hey look at that dollar-sized dent on the inside engine cavity. Like really? He said that is not their policy. It means they did it half-as-sed. I said if you do not get my repair bill down, this car will be taken off the road and either parted out or sold at an auction and I will lose it, and the chances of me finding another one in the same sweet condition and color are almost impossible so I will be back to square one. I agreed to sign that a few of these things would remain as is (cosmetic tiny issues UNDER THE HOOD like who cares. I am keeping the car for years so I am fine with it. I went back to Economical and said if I could get the body shop bill down a lot would he agree to fix the car? And he said yes! The body shop got my bill down by $5100.00 from the original $12,000.00. I went back to Economical, and he said GREAT JOB Kevin and then agreed at $6900,00 they would pay to repair the car. I appreciated his flexibility, his feedback, and his sharing with me some things I could do as unorthodox as they were, and at least I got to keep the car. Thanks, Economical for working with me as well body shop. Thanks, guys!
