Terrible service

by Nonya Bidness on Jun 25, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

It took me over an hour to activate my card, another hour to figure out how to pay my first bill. Information is hard to find, and customer service is purely there to push extras, not to help. This is a garbage credit card and I will cancel it as soon as I've confirmed that my first and last bill payment has gone through.

Never got the card

by neveragain on Apr 18, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

I reluctantly signed up for the card at the cash since I was promised a $ 25 rebate on the next purchase. I never got the card, never got a statement, but finally, yesterday, I got a text saying I was behind in my payments. I only used it that first time because of course I couldn't because I didn't get the card. Two hours on the phone yesterday, being transferred here and there. Apparently, my unit number was missing from the application, although I carefully gave it. First-person on the phone fixed it. But then I was transferred over and over again. Final Department seems to be Security who wants to verify me. They wanted my address from 20 years ago. I gave it to them. They said they will call me back on my phone to verify it is me. I waited, the phone never range but got a voicemail from Walmart saying to call them back on the number on the back of my card. I don't have a card!!! Called again, transferred 4 times, got Security Department, he said he'd have to call back on my phone, never called back. On hold now for 45 minutes while Security is doing??? I just want to pay the bill and then quietly cancel the card. What a mess.

Bad business practice

by GF on Nov 30, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

I was approved online for a Walmart MasterCard. I received a call saying there was a security issue. My account was placed on hold so I could verify my identity and address.
I was given the runaround for 2 weeks with the most ignorant, unprofessional security department and customer service I have ever dealt with.
I was told to call back numerous times and then told they could not give me a time limit on when my information would be reviewed.
I have 2 other credit cards and have never experienced something like this. I cancelled the account and was told I could not apply for another Walmart card for 6 months.
Don't see a problem there.
Horrible company

Walmart Mistake

by Sid on Nov 23, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

Walmart damaged my credit because of their mistake. A Walmart employee filled out my CC application. They entered my address wrong and probably phone number wrong. The first purchase around 15 was charged on the card. I never received the card or any of their statements/letters, or any of their phone calls. They kept reporting to credit bureaus. I found out after 8 months. Paid off the balance. They promised to fix my credit but it was all lies. They never did. Going to small claims court now.

I hate walmart mastercard

by Nady on Nov 15, 2019
1.5 out of 5 stars

If you go shopping from Walmart, always cashiers ask "do have Walmart Mastercard" and then they insist to get a master card from Walmart and get the rewards. The problem started as soon as I got a master card from Walmart at Hartland, they told me that "the card will be mailed to you up to the next two weeks", but I never received it. I went to the same store and told them about this problem, then they cancelled it and filled another application for me for another card. Before I go for my vacation, I went to the same store and paid the amount that was printed in my last statement. Then another story started from Walmart master card customer service about the late payments. After a few times of calling and going to the same store, finally, they found their discrepancy and this nasty problem was solved. But, I requested to cancel my Walmart Master card and relief myself from this sort of services and approaching untrained customer service employees.

Worst experience EVER!

by FedUp on Nov 15, 2019

I like to maintain good credit and I am choosy as to which credit cards I apply for and how often I apply in order to protect my credit rating. I thought the WalMart Rewards MasterCard would be a good fit as we do the majority of our grocery shopping at Walmart and I liked the idea of earning points towards purchases. Had I known the hassle it would involve to obtain the card or the horrible customer service I would receive in the process, I most definitely wouldn’t have put a dent in my credit applying for this card and would not have applied at all. After being approved “instantly” at WalMart.ca, I came to find that was not at all the case at all. A few days after applying, I received a phone call from MasterCard saying there was a security issue with my card and to call in. I thought that was strange as I hadn’t even received my cards (one for me, one for my husband) in the mail yet. Upon calling in and talking to the security department, they told me they needed further documentation to prove my identity and gave me a fax number. They requested two pieces of mail, such as utility bills, confirming my address along with a recent tax assessment. I went ahead and forwarded documentation and was to expect to hear from them within the next 10 days. Strangely enough, in the meantime, my cards arrived in the mail. When I called to activate them, I was put through to the security department again and was told they wanted a different tax assessment as I gave them 2017 instead of 2018. Along with the 2018 tax assessment, they also wanted copies of my driver’s license and more utility bills to confirm my address. Ok(?). This was all ridiculous to me as I’ve been at the same address going on 20 years, which could have been verified when they did my initial credit check. Anyhow, I went along with it and faxed it in the second set of documentation. Fast forward a month. I hadn’t heard anything from MasterCard. I was told I’d hear from them within 10 days so I went ahead and called in so I could check the status of my cards. What a mistake! I got the rudest, most demeaning customer service representative that I’ve ever dealt with. Seriously. As I tried to explain the situation he would cut me off, talk over me, and tell me there wasn’t anything he could do but pass it along to someone else. Alright. I asked him what to do next, what is the process, etc. He got irritated with my questions and began raising his voice to the point of shouting. I asked him why he was being angry with me and he told me because I was treating him like an idiot! Pardon me? I was only trying to get him to explain what was going on. Wow. Anyhow, I ended the conversation as he continued to escalate. I calmed myself and called back having decided enough was enough and wanting to have them cancel everything. I got a different rep so calmly tried to explain what had happened up until that point with the application and all the faxes I had sent. She told me I needed to fax in more documentation again. I asked which ones and she told me I needed to send in my most recent tax assessment. I told her I had done that over a month ago, along with my driver’s license and more utility bills. She said they haven’t received them yet. I told her that it was strange as I had a copy of a fax verification from when I sent the paperwork in. Now she started to get snotty and asked me what I wanted her to do about it. I told her that I understood she couldn’t personally do anything about it but what is it they want me to do next. She said I needed to fax the documentation to them again. Omg. Now I was frustrated and told her to just go ahead and cancel the application altogether, I’ve done everything they’ve asked over the last few months and it wasn’t worth troubling myself over any further. Unbelievable. I have never had such a problem trying to acquire a credit card, nor have I ever dealt with such awful customer service. And throughout all of this, I noticed that they didn’t only do a credit check, they also have placed their credit card on my list of active credit cards at the credit bureau! How can they list it as an issued, active card when I haven’t even had any access to it? That’s beyond my comprehension. So my credit score took a hit for something I don’t have and never will have. Thanks, Walmart MasterCard, such a pleasure doing business with you. My advice? Run. Don’t walk. Run. I’ve been dealing with various credit cards for the last 30 years and have never seen anything as remotely impossible as this situation has been. Get yourself a regular, bank-issued, low rate card and save yourself the hassle. So not worth it.

Balance Protection Plan

by Campisi on Aug 21, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

I have had a Walmart Mastercard for years and do not carry a balance. When my last bill came in I realized it was incorrect so I called Customer Service then realized I made my payment to another card instead of Walmart, my bad right? Anyway, while they had me on the phone they offered me the Balance Protection Plan which I repeatedly said NO too since I do not usually carry a balance this would be a waste of money. They offered to send me the Plan information in a letter so if I changed my mind I could call and activate. The letter I got was an activation and my credit card was charged $54.00 and apparently I committed to this fee each month. Even if you say NO to the plan but agree to receive the letter you are automatically enrolled. WHAT? It did not matter that I was a long term customer with great credit history with them they tried to OUTSMART me and took advantage. When I called Customer Service they said accepting the letter even though I said NO was an automatic enrolment. When I tried to get this protection plan off my credit card they said I had to call Walmart Financial, although I called Walmart Credit Card that day I phoned to inquire about my balance. They automatically switch sides when you call in hopes they can scam you. I cut up my Walmart Mastercard immediately, if I cannot be respected and they think they have the right to scam me then they do not deserve my loyalty....you give what you get. Be wary if you have a Walmart Mastercard, they will try to catch you off guard and rip you off.

Robbing people

by Roxy on Aug 12, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

I have had this card since 2014... started with the limit of 1000 then got pre-approved for 1500, then for 5000 and recently for 8600 with the letter that I am a loyal customer and so I am being pre-approved for this credit limit. So, I was late to pay in September because I was out of the country and just skipped out of my mind. Then I lost my card by the time I returned. So, I called Walmart ordered the new card and while waiting for it, as it takes 10 business days to arrive, got a call from a lady asking I am late to pay. I told her the story and she said - ok, not a problem, I will leave a note in the system that you will pay as soon the card arrives as you need the card number to pay. And 2 days later I got a letter my credit limit is lowered to 1500. WHAT? I called customer care and he said this is done automatically by the system we don't do it, the system does. You have not used your whole credit limit you have only spent 1500 in past few months so the limit is lowered to 1500 lol... so he was trying to say if I have 9000 limits i have to use it all. I am still in shock what they have done to me.

Worst credit card to apply for

by Mommyof3 on Jul 27, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

I applied for this card because I often shop at Walmart as a mother of 3. When I applied, I was approved for 2k. Shortly afterwards, towards Christmas, they offered an increase to $9500. I accepted because of upcoming expenses. The moment you reach your limit, they drop your limit without notice so they can charge you over-limit fee, etc. Their customer service is horrible. A missed monthly payment for whatever reason will result in non-stop calls probably 8 times a day and without leaving a voice message. The monthly payments are absolutely ridiculous. They will never work with a customer to keep their relationship. They also closed my card without notice. Anyways, a huge lesson learned. Stick with major or known bank credit cards. These retail creditors clearly do not have sufficient funds to keep their business afloat which is why they will harass and ruin any peace of mind. I have several credit cards and maintain a great relationship with them credit-wise. However, with Walmart, it was very difficult. Their customer service and customer communication are poor. This card ruined my credit score. I highly recommend all consumers to apply elsewhere. They are not worth the rewards (very minimal) nor a continuous headache.

Horrible customer service

by Angry customer on Jun 19, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

I, recently, got married, I called to change my name and was given 2 option I can fax my marriage certificate and ID or mail so I took both option info. Later that day (3 months ago) I faxed! After 2 months I called to ask what’s up, they said they didn’t get it (funny cuz fax was received) so I was given mailing address again and send info in with a letter and notes on their computers (and the same I did for the Costco card). Last week received a Cosco card! So today June 19 - I call! The guy on the phone was so rude to me, treating me like I’m dumb and blaming me saying he won’t give me address cuz I’ll just confirm that that’s the one I sent it to. After arguing with him for 10 minutes (trying to get the address) I finally hung up! I have had enough with this company and use and pay off my card and have been since 2011! Every time I call - it’s a fight whether it be limit change (because they decide after I make a $2000 payment they will drop my limit) without notice. Had fraud issues and it was a fight! They refused for months to take the insurance off, and info change!
