Bad business practice

I was approved online for a Walmart MasterCard. I received a call saying there was a security issue. My account was placed on hold so I could verify my identity and address.
I was given the runaround for 2 weeks with the most ignorant, unprofessional security department and customer service I have ever dealt with.
I was told to call back numerous times and then told they could not give me a time limit on when my information would be reviewed.
I have 2 other credit cards and have never experienced something like this. I cancelled the account and was told I could not apply for another Walmart card for 6 months.
Don't see a problem there.
Horrible company

Worst experience EVER!

I like to maintain good credit and I am choosy as to which credit cards I apply for and how often I apply in order to protect my credit rating. I thought the WalMart Rewards MasterCard would be a good fit as we do the majority of our grocery shopping at Walmart and I liked the idea of earning points towards purchases. Had I known the hassle it would involve to obtain the card or the horrible customer service I would receive in the process, I most definitely wouldn’t have put a dent in my credit applying for this card and would not have applied at all. After being approved “instantly” at WalMart.ca, I came to find that was not at all the case at all. A few days after applying, I received a phone call from MasterCard saying there was a security issue with my card and to call in. I thought that was strange as I hadn’t even received my cards (one for me, one for my husband) in the mail yet. Upon calling in and talking to the security department, they told me they needed further documentation to prove my identity and gave me a fax number. They requested two pieces of mail, such as utility bills, confirming my address along with a recent tax assessment. I went ahead and forwarded documentation and was to expect to hear from them within the next 10 days. Strangely enough, in the meantime, my cards arrived in the mail. When I called to activate them, I was put through to the security department again and was told they wanted a different tax assessment as I gave them 2017 instead of 2018. Along with the 2018 tax assessment, they also wanted copies of my driver’s license and more utility bills to confirm my address. Ok(?). This was all ridiculous to me as I’ve been at the same address going on 20 years, which could have been verified when they did my initial credit check. Anyhow, I went along with it and faxed it in the second set of documentation. Fast forward a month. I hadn’t heard anything from MasterCard. I was told I’d hear from them within 10 days so I went ahead and called in so I could check the status of my cards. What a mistake! I got the rudest, most demeaning customer service representative that I’ve ever dealt with. Seriously. As I tried to explain the situation he would cut me off, talk over me, and tell me there wasn’t anything he could do but pass it along to someone else. Alright. I asked him what to do next, what is the process, etc. He got irritated with my questions and began raising his voice to the point of shouting. I asked him why he was being angry with me and he told me because I was treating him like an idiot! Pardon me? I was only trying to get him to explain what was going on. Wow. Anyhow, I ended the conversation as he continued to escalate. I calmed myself and called back having decided enough was enough and wanting to have them cancel everything. I got a different rep so calmly tried to explain what had happened up until that point with the application and all the faxes I had sent. She told me I needed to fax in more documentation again. I asked which ones and she told me I needed to send in my most recent tax assessment. I told her I had done that over a month ago, along with my driver’s license and more utility bills. She said they haven’t received them yet. I told her that it was strange as I had a copy of a fax verification from when I sent the paperwork in. Now she started to get snotty and asked me what I wanted her to do about it. I told her that I understood she couldn’t personally do anything about it but what is it they want me to do next. She said I needed to fax the documentation to them again. Omg. Now I was frustrated and told her to just go ahead and cancel the application altogether, I’ve done everything they’ve asked over the last few months and it wasn’t worth troubling myself over any further. Unbelievable. I have never had such a problem trying to acquire a credit card, nor have I ever dealt with such awful customer service. And throughout all of this, I noticed that they didn’t only do a credit check, they also have placed their credit card on my list of active credit cards at the credit bureau! How can they list it as an issued, active card when I haven’t even had any access to it? That’s beyond my comprehension. So my credit score took a hit for something I don’t have and never will have. Thanks, Walmart MasterCard, such a pleasure doing business with you. My advice? Run. Don’t walk. Run. I’ve been dealing with various credit cards for the last 30 years and have never seen anything as remotely impossible as this situation has been. Get yourself a regular, bank-issued, low rate card and save yourself the hassle. So not worth it.

Walmart Canada Credit Worse

by MapleRidgeCanada on Sep 28, 2019

I am generally a polite person but what I went through yesterday was the first in a lifetime. I found an unauthorized charge on my statement from my August Statement and I decided to call it in. The customer service girl was polite, she seemed to be based in the US. I asked to be connected to the Chargeback department. She initially was hesitant and kept avoiding to send me to that department but finally just forwarded me. Then the phone was answered by a rude person. Seemed to be based in India. I asked to speak to the folks in the Chargeback department. He said that everyone is gone for the day. This is 4:10 PM PST. I told him that I want to report an unauthorized transaction. He tells me that I can not report it per their policy since its been over 30 days. His tone was bullying and offensive. I have never come across such a rude person even when I kept my tone low. At this moment, my wife and I are cancelling the card and we will be reporting Walmart financial services to the Attorney general since they have many reports against them for ripping off fair Canadians.

Balance Protection Plan

by Campisi on Aug 21, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

I have had a Walmart Mastercard for years and do not carry a balance. When my last bill came in I realized it was incorrect so I called Customer Service then realized I made my payment to another card instead of Walmart, my bad right? Anyway, while they had me on the phone they offered me the Balance Protection Plan which I repeatedly said NO too since I do not usually carry a balance this would be a waste of money. They offered to send me the Plan information in a letter so if I changed my mind I could call and activate. The letter I got was an activation and my credit card was charged $54.00 and apparently I committed to this fee each month. Even if you say NO to the plan but agree to receive the letter you are automatically enrolled. WHAT? It did not matter that I was a long term customer with great credit history with them they tried to OUTSMART me and took advantage. When I called Customer Service they said accepting the letter even though I said NO was an automatic enrolment. When I tried to get this protection plan off my credit card they said I had to call Walmart Financial, although I called Walmart Credit Card that day I phoned to inquire about my balance. They automatically switch sides when you call in hopes they can scam you. I cut up my Walmart Mastercard immediately, if I cannot be respected and they think they have the right to scam me then they do not deserve my loyalty....you give what you get. Be wary if you have a Walmart Mastercard, they will try to catch you off guard and rip you off.

Don’t Apply for it

My husband has been using Walmart MasterCard for 4 year if not less and has always maintained very good credit. When he received July 2019 bill and detected two suspicious activities to his card. He immediately reported to the customer service about these two activities. First, after he explained what might have happened to his card, he was given an number to call. He tried that number and it was an automated service only number. He then called the Customer Service the second time and explained every thing again. He was given a another different number to call. The same thing happened as the first time. Then he called again...After spending nearly one hour dealing with them, he was exhausted and realized all these run around phone calls from CS has proved that Walmart Mastercard doesn’t seem to have a way to deal with fraudulent activities to protect their customers at all. He then decided to pay for the fraudulent activities and cancel the card for good. He is lucky that he only had to pay $55 for the fraudsters, but he has completely lost confidence in Walmart Mastercard.

Worst experience in life

by Sukhvir on May 17, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

I bought a product online with Walmart MasterCard. After entering the wrong SecureCode at the final step, the card got "Hold". I reset the code, called customer care. They said, it's all OK and the payment will go through. But here my problem starts. The hold on my card continued even on offline transactions. Wherever I tapped or inserted my card, it "declined". Called, Walmart MasterCard people, again and again, almost 4 times. Every time got the answer, "Everything is OK now. You will not have any problem" but the same story continues till now. Also, even after assurance at the end of every call, got another, to reassure if I am the right person. If you miss that call, hold continues and if you pick that call and verify your identity, the hold still continues. As a result, I lost that great deal of almost $400 savings, the order was cancelled and the product was no more there on a deal. WORST!! WORST!! WORST!!! experience with Walmart MasterCard.

Unbelievably rude and nasty

I got a call from Walmart security about 'suspicious activity' on my account. The activity they were referring to was that I made a payment more than my credit limit. Because I got a low interest transfer from my TD Visa card. Well, they said I had to PROVE where the payment came from and that they were FREEZING my account. When I called TD about it, the lady said she had done literally thousands of balance transfers over the years and she had never heard of such a thing. She said 'why does Walmart need to know where the money came from? Why do they care?' So when I called Walmart back and asked the woman, her already haughty attitude turned nasty. 'We don't have to return the money to you' she said. 'we can keep it as long as we want'. I said 'I made a previous large payment of $5,000 and you didn't question it' and she said 'no you didn't'. So I went home to my computer and called back. Right away she said 'are you the guy who called before about your large payment?' I said 'yes'. Again she said I had never made a previous payment, and when I said 'I'm looking at it right now on my computer screen' she said 'what's your card number?'

Walmart Rewards Mastercard

by Intensemorpheus on Dec 17, 2018

First I'll start with the positives about Walmart Rewards Mastercard. 1. High credit limit, so you assume it would be reliable for trips. 2. You can pay your credit card bill in store, I was told that it goes straight into your card and there is no 3-5 business day wait for it. 3. You can access all your transactions online with no need to use your phone to call them. 4. 24/7 hr access to their fraud department. Here are the negatives about having a Walmart Rewards Mastercard. 1. You're not allowed to see your pending transactions online. 2. If you call them inquiring about your pending transactions, they will have a hard time taking the time to tell you the transactions that are pending and they will interrupt you and cut you off and use the whole, "poor me, I gotta work!?" attitude, also they won't transfer you to someone that can actually help you. 3. You can't get a list of your transactions or pending transactions in a store. 4. If you put money on your card in store, it does not go in right away, it takes 3-5 business days. 5. If you call the fraud department on a Sunday night about a suspected fraud, they will tell you that they can't help you with that and to call back in the morning. The only other credit card I've had was from Capital One. 1. You can review your purchases, as they are being made online, or from their mobile app. 2. They have round the clock customer service. 3. If they suspect there is a fraud, they will contact you personally. 4. They are also a great start to building your credit.
