automatic refusal mandate

by janice on Oct 25, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

with full medical through ManuLife . illness left me unable to work, letters from heart specialist, doctor, respiratory specialist and unknown kidney function and blood pressure, I am only 33 and 10 years in a management position. Manulife refused benefits immediately. Appeal process refused and now 2 years later a lawyer (who used to work for Manulife) has gotten it to the arbitration stage. He knows their mandate is to refuse legitimate claims because sick people cannot go through the hoops and they hope to drop them along the way. I have lost my income, unable to work, gone on welfare, and am homeless now. When it goes to arbitration, and not to court, there will be no public record or statistics as to their refusals. 2 years and still waiting to hear, has destroyed my overall health and career.

Completely disappointed

I'm writting to express my frustration about Manulife company.
I paid 500,00 Cad for this insurance and it didnt help me at all.
I have a panic attack and I went to the hospital, needes medical assistance, paid the Bill in the end , doctor prescribed me a medication. By the way, I feell pretty much better and I have been prescribed to be absent 1 month from my job. I have claimed the refund , because I paid 150,00cad to see the doctor, and they told me it's not covered by because of the companie's policy, the girll that talked to me was super kind , Everybody can has the same issue, I just wanna say you guys that be carefull!!! because the dont consider mental disorder as a disease, if you have any medical emergency in relation to something you feel. You will pay the Bill! At least I got my permanent residence I have not to pass through this anymore. It's a shame!!! Just to express my frustration about the company. Veyr bady experience I had.

Guilt-Trip

by CPL83 on Mar 22, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

I submitted a claim for short term disability due to excessive stress at work that has been accumulating for over 4 years. I was reluctant to even take some time off because I felt guilty for feeling the way I felt, having anxiety attacks and insomnia. When an agent contacted me to review my file, not only did she make me feel even more guilty, she was condescending repeating that it's also very busy where she worked. I understand that they need to verify every claim but the lack of empathy is outstanding. I've been making progress with my therapist and now, I'm having anxiety attacks again because I'm back to thinking that there is something wrong with me for not being top shape emotionally.

They dont care

by 1unhappyclient on Feb 23, 2016

I got hit by a car and fractured 2 vertebrae in my spine. Doctor said it takes 3 months to heal and do not suggesting sitting longer than 30 mins at a time. Manulife forced me to gradually return to work 4 hrs a day or they will stop paying out and deny the rest of the claim? I hired a lawyer to resolve this. Fingers crossed.

To Manulife...we are all liars

by Manu'shit II on Nov 3, 2015

If I could give zero stars I would. I have never been treated so disrespectfully in my life. And what I have heard from others, they treat everyone as if they lying, including the medical professionals. In my situation, specialists and my doctor have sent in their diagnosis reports and manulife is still questioning them. Even my license has been suspended for medical reasons with the info provided by the medical professionals. The MTO respects the medical professionals diagnosis as enough evidence to make a decision but Manulife doesn't. Manulife is is apparently above the medical professionals and does not trust them to make a diagnosis. I have feel like are just trying to catch one small thing and delay the process even more and deny it. It's not the roof over their head and they obviously don't care about mine.

LTD

A hassle from start to finish. I checked off all the right boxes for my insurance and trusted Manulife. Became disabled and it took 18 months, so much time and effort, three specialists for them to finally approve my claim. Then after paying it for a few years they cut it off because they said they neglected to take out the premiums in the first place. I have aged 20 years in the last 3 years of dealing with the company. They have made a terrible situation so much worse for me, and their reps, Mary L. and Kabir, were not helpful at all and had to be walked through the file on each phone call.

Look Elsewhere

by Extremely Disappointed on Aug 1, 2015

My fiance has a policy through her work. Last year she had hernia surgery because of her job. Her claim took a long time to process Manulife "didn't receive" the forms that were faxed/emailed to them even though there were confirmations of the forms being sent 2 or 3 times. After her surgery and some healing time, she was forced back to work to early. Her surgeon's and general practitioner's reports stated she was not ready to return to work. Manulife's docotor (who only read reports) overrode these reports stating he saw no reason for her to be off work so Manulife cut her benefits. As a result of all this, not even a year later she is once again off work and looking forward to another surgery for a repeated tare and additional tares to the same spot. As mentioned by others on this site, Manulife is not interested in their customers wellbeing. They are only interested in taking your money and paying out as little as possible. Bottom line: If you have a choice, look elsewhere. The only way you'll be happy with this company is if you never have to file a claim.

The Worst life Company

by The wiser on Jan 7, 2014

Stay away from this life insurance company. When you make a claim, they suspect that every one is committing fraud, they take too much time to look at the file, even when you try to purchase life insurance, they are so complicated in the process. My son had a bad car accident, they refused his disability claim after two month of wait. They said that 8 years ago he had a head injury. Unbelievable how they do not care.

They robbed me of my livelihood because I'm not a lawyer, I was on Long Term Disability through my Insulators Union, and after the first week or so they started to savagely kicked me while I was down in whatever way they could come up with...

Once I reached the 2-year "C.O.D. date"(change of definition) they basically insisted my doctor and I were wrong and that I am capable of working as a fast food worker or telemarketer etc. Which is absolutely not possible for me.

I was a strong, driven, and hard-working young tradesperson, in my second year in electrical and marine insulating. At 21 I suddenly got pneumonia, and soon after was told I have a tumor in my right lung and needed immediate surgery.

I was told it would be an easy laparoscopic procedure with 3 small 1" incisions.

I wake up in agony to find they decided to do it the old-fashioned way, an 8" incision cutting all 3 of my most important back muscles in half on my right side. + 2 small 1" incisions.

They cut my most important muscles in half, sliced them between my ribs, prayed them apart, and removed the entire top chamber of my right lung. And as a lucky bonus, they didn't hook up my Epidural correctly and didn't believe me for 2 days until I was moaning in agony and very clearly suffering... who knows what kind of psychological effect that had on me.

I worked on light duty on and off but ended up completely disabled.

I am now 28, have been cut off by Manulife for 1.5 years, depression has long taken over my life and hope is nowhere to be found. I don't have it in me anymore to jump through their hoops. I am desperate, and every time Manulifes commercials come on it makes me so angry, false advertising at its finest. They don't care about us AT ALL.

My case manager and has been absolutely hostile, rude, demeaning, belittling, and as unhelpful as one could possibly imagine...

They insisted I go to Physio at the worst and least qualified place in town. They rushed me back to work in a GRTW plan... which ultimately ended with so much extra effort for my awesome boss/company that the bridge is now burned..... Thanks, Manulife...

Pregnant wife denied

by justsaynotomanulife on Jan 28, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

Denied my wife's claim for 6 months. 3 appeals later and the final appeal was denied as well. This was for work (manufacturing). She claimed she was more than capable of her regular duties at work despite multiple letters from her OB. This might be the WORST insurance company. I would not recommend for any kind of service. I wouldn't let them insure a bicycle let alone anything to do with my family.
