Manulife worst insurer

1 out of 5 stars
My calls were constantly farmed out and went out to some call center in the Philippines. They demanded several notes and even phoned my doctor. I have now gotten in trouble with my doctor saying they will not do phone and prescriptions for me anymore because of the harassment from Manulife. They are criminals, they do whatever they can to not pay including changing the rules.
My experience:
Manulife took over our provider Standard Life in April 2016.
We were assured that access to our Standard Life claims would remain active. True until May, after which we were required to call into Manulife to access the information.
Manulife required a new pre-determination for my daughter's orthodontic treatments. Manulife then proceeded to double pay some benefits, sending a bill for the extra amounts, pay incorrect amounts on some benefits, and in all cases fail to process associated Health Spending Accounts (HSA) amounts.
After 8 months I hoping to have a resolution to these issues next month currently I am owed over 1,500 in benefits that are yet to be paid.
History corrections litter the completed claims area with some applied to the wrong patient.
In tracking this issue I have discovered the following:
* Manulife removes claim documents from their website... I have claim documents that I downloaded but can no longer be found in the claims area. After calling Manulife, they stated that they "update" the forms and old versions are replaced and removed.
* The HSA (Health Spending Account) information "current as of the date listed" stated a $0 balance for most of 2016, so no claims were applied to it. In January 2017, the website updated with approximately $600 unused for 2016. All the HSA claims need to be re-filed by mail.
I would rate Manulife 0 stars if I could!
My husband has a health policy with Manulife. I am covered being his spouse. Went online to make a claim, the site does not WORK. Called to advise them of the problem for when you enter your Doctor's phone number it doesn't take the number, The AGENT said he couldn't TALK to me about it without my husband's consent. I asked to speak with a SUPERVISOR, I was REFUSED. All I wanted to do, was REPORT the PROBLEM. I'M TOTALLY DISGUSTED THE WAY I WAS TREATED.
We have been with this terrible not-Coverme me program and I can tell you it is horrible. They are super bureaucratic, even my cat's health insurance is much easier and convenient to deal with. You have to fill endless papers and once in a while they change their mind and something that was covered for years suddenly they will make stupid excuses and don't cover anymore (it happened with my daughter psychologist). You have to call and talk to different people and all of them will give you different answers on the same topics, they know nothing. They raise the quote once in a while, the doctors increase their fees and Manulife has the same shitty coverage. Don't believe what the commercials say and look for a serious insurance company.
I've been trying to submit a claim, the website is ALWAYS down and when I call the emergency number, it's connected to a cruise survey!!
Our daughter has a heart murmur for which she has never received any treatment or medical intervention. Manulife has only recently allowed our her two siblings to be covered on our group insurance plan, after a full year of waiting. We have had to jump through all sorts of hoops and still our daughter, who doesn't even have to take antibiotics when she visits the dentist, is not a recipient of our family's benefits.
When I do contact Manulife they try to imply that they have no record of my husband's policy, because they never include his certificate number on any correspondence that we've received. I'm curious as to how they suppose that I'm receiving correspondence from them, because they certainly seem to have at least our address! I am very unimpressed with this company and their lack of desire to help.
He/she put me on hold for about 15 minutes and when they came to say they couldn't help me, the customer service representative, (admittedly I was angry by this point), pretended that he/she couldn't hear me. I demanded their name, and they simply continued to pretend that they couldn't hear me. I demanded to speak to a manager, and they continued the game of not being able to hear me....even fading their voice so that maybe I might think that the connection was fading out. I hung up and phoned back and guess what? The customer service rep that I got this time, could hear me just fine! And she was able to help me, quickly, I might add!
I get it, it's not fun to deal with an angry and frustrated customer and I was hopping mad, but just pass me off to management rather than implying that I don't know what I'm talking about or playing games with me!
Sadly the experiences that I've had when I've had to contact Manulife have more closely resembled my encounter with the fading out customer service rep rather than the lady who I later spoke with.
I just want our daughter, who is eight and as healthy as a horse to be taken care of! It's been over a year of waiting!

My online account is often inaccessible.
Not all claims are accepted online and don't expect to see an error or alert message on the screen. Just a regular text saying that your claim was no submitted which is wery easy to skip and if you don't pay attention you may wait few weeks until you realize that something is wrong.
If client service call you back to follow up on your issues then you are a very lucky person.
They will play dumb: won't see some details in invoices and will ask you to call them back when you have additional: diagnosis/procedures names or codes/doctor graduation etc. You call and they will say that the information they requested cannot be accepted by phone and will ask you to send it by... Fax! (fax in 2017 ?!?!) After they make you a favor and agree to accept scanned documents by e-mail you better make sure the attached files are in pdf. Even the way you attach the files is important. Drag and drop in gmail didn't work for me, they couldn't see the attachment - use "Attach files" button. And don't be surprised if at the end they will tell you the service is not covered.
