Terrible experience
by Stupid to believe TD insurance on Oct 23, 2018

I had no accident and no claims for the past 15 years and they jacked up the premium by 15% without valid reasons. They asked me to use the application that should give me some discount, but it was all scam at the end. I am terminating the plan. Terrible experience.
I got insurance from TD because I got a “discount” from work. They told me it will be 375$ Canadian and I thought that’s a fair price because I’m a very young driver with no experience and I have a brand new financed car. I couldn’t afford the insurance, so I went to RBC and they gave me car insurance for 170$!!! I can’t believe I got ripped off like this. Also, they charge a CRAZY cancellation fee of 470$!! Which I was not informed about and they claim that the insurance is for one year which I was not informed about EVER. Shame on them for this ripoff!
After being with TD for 7 years and having multiple cars and home insurance policies with them, they increased my insurance premiums 28% from the first year with no changes (i.e. no accidents, tickets etc).
The company said they could only process one transaction per day, and considered the cancellation of an auto renewal 2 months in the future my "one transaction". This is causing a huge headache for picking up my new car and transferring the insurance. Echoing other sentiments on this feed, customer service representatives are no well equipped and can't answer simple questions including "what is the cancellation fee" without a 20-minute hold and conversation with another department. Even if they are a few dollars less than the competition, I strongly advise against this company.
I just cancelled my insurance today after being with TD for 2 years. They charged me exactly $375.68 for 11 days of coverage when my monthly payments were only $267.84. I never made one claim, I have a clean driving record with no traffic tickets and my only downfall is living in Brampton. I found a cheaper rate with better coverage from Desjardins Insurance. TD has no loyalty and they are competitive only in your first year, so you're better off switching after your year is up. Talking to the service agents on the phone and asking how $375 for 11 days was hilarious... Insurance companies are a scam unless you make a claim or for those that choose to scam them first. If you have a clean record and find a better price somewhere else - be prepared to get stiff-armed by a company that is purely "profits before people".
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
They treat you well up front. Do not believe it. We don't mind paying higher premiums believing perhaps the company can be trusted. Wrong! When it comes to claims Beware! Do not allow them to just repair without knowing what the cost will be within reason. They will screw you out of a new vehicle though you have paid for the 5 year replacement insurance. Do Not Trust them!!!!
Got a better policy for almost $400 cheaper than anywhere else! Got coverage confirmation same day and they didn't jack the price up despite us having a policy cancellation in 2015. Was very happy with the experience, they were quick, efficient, and worked after closing time because we needed insurance confirmation to pick up our new vehicle. Can't say enough good about TD insurance and I would recommend them to anyone!!
I am a 62 female with a perfect driving record. I signed up for the My Advantage app as I am a very careful driver. The app calculated that I would save 21% on my insurance. I got my renewal and instead of saving 21%, my premium went up 14%. When I contacted TD Insurance, they confirmed the discount was applied. I think the app is misleading to say the least and I am looking for another provider to move all my insurance needs.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
I have absolutely no idea why so many people are complaining. I have been with Meloche Monnex for over 9 years, ever since I began driving at age 16. I've had several claim experiences with them, which have always been dealt with professionally. I have only experienced long wait times when calling at peak hours, which is common sense to expect. That's not even something I'd complain about. Every single person I've dealt with has CONSISTENTLY been amazing. I have called them MANY times, as I'm one of those people who calls even if a small question arises. They have ALWAYS been patient with me, answering my questions to my satisfaction, and I even receive consistent answers when asking the same question to multiple people. My rates are incomparable to anyone I know, so that is another plus. Recently, Meloche Monnex denied renewing my policy because I had acquired too many speeding tickets, but they notified me in advance and explained that I could come back once a few tickets were off my record. Fast forward 6 months, and I just got off the phone with them to get a new policy with them. Once again, I had a very positive experience with the person I spoke to, and despite still having 2 speeding tickets on my record, I still received an extremely low rate. In terms of the claims I've made, my car was always repaired by professionals and even arranging rental vehicles was NEVER an issue. I literally cannot fathom why anyone would complain about them, as I've spoken to countless people employed at Meloche Monnex and I have nothing negative to say.

I have had no claims no tickets I even went along with their TD my Advantage app, and scored great on it. When my renewal for the first year came up, even though I had enough KM and enough length of time using the app, the discount wasn't applied as they changed the conditions of when to qualify. I continued to use the app for a full year after, surprise: I now qualify for the discount. With my great driving scores and having no accidents or tickets (nothing), they have decided that the risk has increased for an unknown reason and they basically increased my premium so that after the discount I ended up at the same previous insurance premium. Now I am stuck with the app because if I cancel the app, I will have a much higher premium than what I always had in the previous years. I realized how stupid I was when I believed their lies. Don't install the app, it's a trap and you won't be able to get out of it.
