I parked my car and put it on suspended coverage. When I went to put it back on the road, they increased my rate. Said it was "pro-rated" for the rest of my term even though I ensured that my rates would not change when I changed my coverage. They refused to quote me for motorcycle coverage because I was not 30 even though I have a clean record and 4 years of constant coverage on my bike, but they will quote someone with two tickets who is 30. Terrible experience every time I call.
RBC has changed their payment policy!! So watch out!! The month before your policy expires they are taking a double payment claiming you get that back when you cancel your policy. This is a total rip-off!!!!
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
Terrible customer service - and I've NEVER had a claim! I am terrified if I ever do! They keep taking services and value away over the years and I am shopping for new insurance when my policy expires! The insurance division since they sold to AVIVA are jeopardizing my entire RBC relationship (mortgage, LOC, investments, personal accounts, business accounts) and I will be looking for other options for this in addition to shopping for a different insurance company - and the best part? They don't care!!
I was insured with RBC auto insurance for a year at a fair rate. However, after a year they increased my insurance by $50 a month without any specific reason. I had no claims, violations or speeding ticket and had a clean driving record. When I tried to know the reason for the hike, even their reps weren't able to give any clear answer.
I moved from Alberta to Ontario and called RBC to transfer my auto insurance. They increased my premium almost $500 for the same coverage. When I asked why, they said it was because Ontario is just more expensive.
So I shopped around and found other insurance carriers that will give me the same coverage for around the same cost as what I was paying in Alberta. When I cancelled my RBC policy they charged me a cancellation fee equal to one month.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
I got quote for my car, my husband's car and house insurance from RBC. They were very nice when I called to set up the insurance. They gave me a quote which I was okay with. And after a week they sent me a letter telling they increased our insurance policy premium by $60 more than quoted just because I forgot to mention about a speeding ticket my husband got about 2 years back and they already charged that amount from my account without my permission or acceptance if I want to continue my insurance with them after increased premium. I called them right after getting the mail and explained everything to an insurance advisor. I told him I literally forgot about the ticket but I thought you guys will pull up the drivers abstract and will inform me if there are any changes. The guy told me he understands and I can cancel the insurance if I want but I should get insurance with a different company before cancelling so I don't have any lapse. I got my insurance with TD and called RBC back to cancel it. After cancelling all the insurance the guy tells me they will charge me almost 1 and a half month worth of insurance premium as a penalty fee for each insurance for cancelling it and I have no way other than paying for it. So I called TD back and explained again and they were generous enough to cancel my insurance with them without any penalty. Now I am stuck with RBC to pay $60 extra each month for 12 months coz I don't want to pay that big of a penalty fee. The advisor was not willing to help me in any way neither he would transfer me to anybody to help me out. Worst insurance company ever seen. First time dealing with RBC. Never again in life. Stay away from them.
The people that RBC has underwriting them (Averia or something like that) are complete not to be trusted. They cancelled my auto policy because I drove to another province with my vehicle and while I was there I purchased a house and called them for a quote. The vehicle is now back in the province of registration and insurance. But the nice thing about this company was that there was no phone call etc...just a letter stating that my policy was cancelled as per my request...(which was another lie as I did not request it but they did try and drag another G note from me because I had my vehicle in another province for a short period of time) and they had reimbursed only a portion of my insurance premium without my knowledge to my credit card prior to my receiving the letter.... So I am unsure how long I may have driven my vehicle with no insurance. Government should be taking a closer look at these companies and their business ethics.
Initially, good experience. Huge rate hike this fall when Aviva took over. Moved one vehicle to be insured in another province. Fees increased! But over $60 a month to cover the remaining vehicle. Was told several time when making enquirers that I could go elsewhere. I did. They have now charged me my month’s dues and a week later a similar amount in ‘fees’ for having canceled service. Huge rip-off. Asked to escalate to an ombudsman, they were to respond in 4 days. Haven’t heard a thing and now the fees were deducted. Can’t believe it.
I have got RBC auto and home insurance last year because I had RBC business, chequing and all my credit cards with RBC.I just want to point out there are no savings if you think u will save money by going with RBC. While I was on the phone in the whole conversation I wasn't told that the insurance is through AVIVA. RBC does not offer any insurance of their own. They offer AVIVA' s insurance. They can only be reached by phone, in case you have missed a payment they send u a letter traditionally instead of calling you or emailing you. Lately, I learned that you can not pause RBC Auto insurance if you are travelling to another country. You can only pause your insurance if you are travelling for more than 60 days. What's the probability of you travelling more than 60 days... VERY SLIM... It was really easy to pause the insurance with TD when I was with TD. They also charge you hefty NSF fee in case you missed a payment and no matter how hard you try, they will not reverse the NSF charge. I had much better experience with Intact or TD than RBC. Don't buy RBC insurance.
I have been trying to cancel my policy for over three weeks now. I've been on hold for almost 4 hours multiple times, when you leave your number, no one calls back...definitely giving me the runaround. Each time, they would ask for another task for me to do to get the cancellation "approved". Due to this, the policy was renewed and I was charged for this month!!! Absolutely ridiculous! I cannot wait to never have to deal with them again.
