C grade company

by Ryan on Jun 11, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

This company has really gone to the dogs since Aviva started managing the Home and Auto insurance sections. Wait time is extremely long and premium keeps going up and up. Such a shame of what RBC Insurance used to be and what it is today. I believe they should try to get this business back from Aviva or they will end up losing their market!

atrocious wait times

by charlee on Jun 7, 2018

Wait times to speak exceed 90 mins now..once connected, service is okay. Offered apologies for sending renewal late by 10 days but if I am late by 1 day, I will have to pay cancellation fees. No apologies excepted. With RBC for last 8 years but it has gone down into sewer now. Time to throw them out just for making me wait 90 mins on phone every time you call.

RBC... something's changed...

by William McKay on May 31, 2018
2.5 out of 5 stars

I have been with RBC insurance for over 8 years now and even with the change over to Aviva, everything seemed normal until today (May 31.2018). I used to just call, yes, long wait times, that's the norm now any place you call but typically under an hour in my history, and once you get thru, the service was helpful and good. But today I have literally been on hold on 2 different calls in just trying to get to a service operator to change my insurance to the new truck I purchased. Started the first call at 3:13, it got dropped at 4:43 pm. I called back at 4:52 pm and it's now 6:34 pm and I'm still sitting on hold waiting for anyone to answer. As I stated, all my history up until now has been good with them, yes, a wait to get them on the phone but normally it's never been this bad, but I have now wasted a good part of my day just listening to the crappy music. Depending on if I can even get someone on tonight, I think I'll be looking at a new broker come September.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Ugly since Aviva took over RBC

by Unhappily insured on Apr 3, 2018

Terrible customer service - and I've NEVER had a claim! I am terrified if I ever do! They keep taking services and value away over the years and I am shopping for new insurance when my policy expires! The insurance division since they sold to AVIVA are jeopardizing my entire RBC relationship (mortgage, LOC, investments, personal accounts, business accounts) and I will be looking for other options for this in addition to shopping for a different insurance company - and the best part? They don't care!!

Worst insurance provider.

I got quote for my car, my husband's car and house insurance from RBC. They were very nice when I called to set up the insurance. They gave me a quote which I was okay with. And after a week they sent me a letter telling they increased our insurance policy premium by $60 more than quoted just because I forgot to mention about a speeding ticket my husband got about 2 years back and they already charged that amount from my account without my permission or acceptance if I want to continue my insurance with them after increased premium. I called them right after getting the mail and explained everything to an insurance advisor. I told him I literally forgot about the ticket but I thought you guys will pull up the drivers abstract and will inform me if there are any changes. The guy told me he understands and I can cancel the insurance if I want but I should get insurance with a different company before cancelling so I don't have any lapse. I got my insurance with TD and called RBC back to cancel it. After cancelling all the insurance the guy tells me they will charge me almost 1 and a half month worth of insurance premium as a penalty fee for each insurance for cancelling it and I have no way other than paying for it. So I called TD back and explained again and they were generous enough to cancel my insurance with them without any penalty. Now I am stuck with RBC to pay $60 extra each month for 12 months coz I don't want to pay that big of a penalty fee. The advisor was not willing to help me in any way neither he would transfer me to anybody to help me out. Worst insurance company ever seen. First time dealing with RBC. Never again in life. Stay away from them.

RBC + Underwriters = Bad News

by NOTORBC on Feb 13, 2018

The people that RBC has underwriting them (Averia or something like that) are complete not to be trusted. They cancelled my auto policy because I drove to another province with my vehicle and while I was there I purchased a house and called them for a quote. The vehicle is now back in the province of registration and insurance. But the nice thing about this company was that there was no phone call etc...just a letter stating that my policy was cancelled as per my request...(which was another lie as I did not request it but they did try and drag another G note from me because I had my vehicle in another province for a short period of time) and they had reimbursed only a portion of my insurance premium without my knowledge to my credit card prior to my receiving the letter.... So I am unsure how long I may have driven my vehicle with no insurance. Government should be taking a closer look at these companies and their business ethics.

Fees too high - not responsive

by D on Feb 9, 2018
1.5 out of 5 stars

Initially, good experience. Huge rate hike this fall when Aviva took over. Moved one vehicle to be insured in another province. Fees increased! But over $60 a month to cover the remaining vehicle. Was told several time when making enquirers that I could go elsewhere. I did. They have now charged me my month’s dues and a week later a similar amount in ‘fees’ for having canceled service. Huge rip-off. Asked to escalate to an ombudsman, they were to respond in 4 days. Haven’t heard a thing and now the fees were deducted. Can’t believe it.

Don't get RBC Insurance

by VK on Jan 16, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

I have got RBC auto and home insurance last year because I had RBC business, chequing and all my credit cards with RBC.I just want to point out there are no savings if you think u will save money by going with RBC. While I was on the phone in the whole conversation I wasn't told that the insurance is through AVIVA. RBC does not offer any insurance of their own. They offer AVIVA' s insurance. They can only be reached by phone, in case you have missed a payment they send u a letter traditionally instead of calling you or emailing you. Lately, I learned that you can not pause RBC Auto insurance if you are travelling to another country. You can only pause your insurance if you are travelling for more than 60 days. What's the probability of you travelling more than 60 days... VERY SLIM... It was really easy to pause the insurance with TD when I was with TD. They also charge you hefty NSF fee in case you missed a payment and no matter how hard you try, they will not reverse the NSF charge. I had much better experience with Intact or TD than RBC. Don't buy RBC insurance.

Insurance went up 65%

by Tdi&STi on Sep 13, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

My Insurance went up 65% after ONE 5km/h over ticket. I have been fully G licensed for 4 years and got my first speeding ticket, my insurance when from 305$ a month to 470$ a month, my cars didn't change and my address stayed the same, its just shameful how they jack your rates up so much after one minor offence, never coming back to rbc

Extremely poor customer servic

I have been faithfully paying my insurance premiums at RBC for over 6 years and they do a great job withdrawing money from your account.
I was buying a new house and needed insurance, so I didn't have time to shop around I just wanted to get it done with them.
Oh my God I lost an exasperating 8 hours of my life with these people on the phone (I have the call logs to prove it) and in the end moved my insurance to another company.

The people on the phone are very polite and friendly, but this is the pricess:
Call RBC , the automated service says "the wait is long, leave a call back number and we will call you back in 40 minutes. Fine
Get the call back, they ask "how can we help you "
I say "this is what I need
They ask a few questions, then say I need to put you on hold while I discuss with my underwritter.
Wait 20 minutes
They ask a question
I provide answer then say I need to put you on hold while I discuss with my underwritter.
Wait 20 minutes
They ask a question
I provide answer then say I need to put you on hold while I discuss with my underwritter.
Wait 20 minutes
And on an on...
The worst part is they come back full circle with a question that was already answered an hour before!

Unless you have time to waste
Find yourself a good broker with a smaller company.
So much headache just to make a change to my policy.
I can't even imagine what it would have been like with RBC of I had a claim.
