Hit and run

by Nothappy on Feb 12, 2015
1 out of 5 stars

My car was hit and run, after contacting the police I call Desjardins to start a claim. The first Rep I talked with told me that this was not covered under my police, out of fear of having my rates increased I did not file a claim. After learning my car should be a write off I filed a claim. The clams office called me 3 days after I submitted my claim at the end of her day, witch in Alberta is 2PM, she did not leave me a claims number. I called her back after receiving the voice mail and left a message. I waited the one businesses day NO phone call, I waited a SECOND business day NO phone call. I called back and left another message. I waited the one businesses day NO phone call, I called again and left another message. NO phone call. I called a 4th time, she answered the phone. I INTRODUCED MYSELF told her I was not given a claims number, and described the situation. Her words were "Oh your the Hit and Run girl, ya that wont be covered under your policy". I told her I have a name. I could go into more detail but basically she was INCREDIBLY RUDE, she didn't look up my information till I ASKED her too. I contacted there customer complaints department and told them my situation, SAME THING, they didn't care!!!!

To sum up, don't have insurance with this company. they Lack compassion, understanding and the ability to look at individual situations.
To rewrite the words of there president in the truth,
WE will not be there when the unexpected happens, you will not get to rest assured, we will not be there for you today the day of your accident, and diffidently not tomorrow.

Bad experience

Who wants to hear a rant? Nobody.

So, I'll give you my conclusions only.

I am speaking moreso of my adjuster, claims advisor, Amanda M. at Dejardins.

She did very little work and investigation into the accident. Her lack of effort resulted in liability on my part.

She seemed to delight in hearing me get upset. This scares me, since other adjusters at Dejardins did not have this attitude.

Amanda M. was certainly not working on my behalf, and wanted to wrap up my claim asap. This is before the requested police report even arrived at Dejardins' office, and a few other pieces of info such as witness statements.

And no returned phone calls to add insult to injury.

Amanda is dealing with claims that affect customer's future driving records and insurance premiums. Lack of empathy and unwillingness to investigate the finer details of my claim sum her up.

Knowing that your claim is in the hands of someone like Amanda M. is infuriating.

Do yourself a favour. Per chance Amanda M. is your claims advisor (adjuster) at Desjardins, asked to be transferred to a new one! Anyone is better than her.

Amanda M. is sarcastic, and she will shovel all of the company policy at you, without really addressing the concerns you raise.

Desjardins Buyer Beware!!!

I had an accident with my brand new Santa Fe which I had purchased 3 months earlier. The vehicle was a "total-loss". I was given a rental until they offered me the buyout (3 days) I was then supposed to just fend for myself I guess...despite the fact that I live 80kms from my office in the country?

My SUV cost me $51822 financed at 2.95%...Desjardin offered me $46009.51. SO when I was given the offer I still owed $49767...I had to still pay an additional $3767 to be without without a car. YES THAT IS RIGHT! I had to pay 5k to not have a car. Then when the cheques actually comes it is $400 short, and the funds for the replacement plate were not included as specified.

This company sucks. They treat customers like crap. I intend to set up a facebook page about them and I will post a link here...lets get everyone more aware of this crappy company.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Horrible Claims Service

Had an accident. They weren't leaving any proper messages on my witnesses voice mails to call back. She admitted she left a message to one of the witnesses saying, "I'll try back another time." I was given a rental for the time being. I had to find out from my dealership that my car was written off, not the insurance company. After a few days the claims adjustor finally called me and said they would pay me out for my car. I agreed to this and they were supposed to send the cheque and a proof of loss to my dealership. They extended my rental to help me out for the next week until I got my cheque. A week later, I still hadn't received the cheque and my dealership hadn't received the POL. I call, the phone lines are all down. I sent an e-mail requesting someone call me because I need a car to commute to work. I call again after the weekend and they haven't even processed the cheque. Nor have they sent the POL because they 'waivered it' because of the agreement and I didn't actually need it. It would 'just be another form you would have to fill out.' They won't give me a loaner and they were 'nice enough to give it to me an extra week when they didn't have to.'
My dealership still needs the POL and I am still without cheque or vehicle. My adjustor is on vacation so it seems my claim was just put on the back burner until she gets back. Either way it's costing me more money than it should. This is so poorly handled. My dealership's financial manager even said for the 20 years he's dealt with cars, he's never seen an insurance company treat someone so horribly. They were nice enough to lend me a demo without any catch.
Find a different insurance company that treats you as a client, not a bag of money.

I was lied to...

by Peacemaker786 on Aug 9, 2013

Bad experience with this company. First the Adjuster and Appraiser lied to me and played around with numbers over the phone, but gave much less over the email, and denied any amounts that were discussed over the phone. And customer service is being difficult with me as well. I am done with these guys and I wouldn't recommend this company for auto insurance. If you get into an accident or your car gets vandalized, they will leave you hanging and make life difficult for you. Never heard a client retention rep arguing with a customer before over a mere $17. Asked them a favor to extend the rental half a day so I can pick up my new car and they refused to help me! I am definitely cancelling with them!

Poor all around experience

My car was hit while parked, had to do all calling to desjardins myself as the other party would not. 2 months later he finally does and the adjuster gives me the option to choose my body shop. Little do I know that she has not been in touch with my body shop so I showed up with them not knowing a thing, and my car not going to be completed for 7 days as they are very busy. I get a rental vehicle that desjardins has set up that same day and learn on day 2 that I must return the rental the next day and that the body shop is responsible for covering the rest of the rental. Apparently a shop taking more than 2 days to repair my car is not a legitimate excuse for them to continue my rental. This company has been useless and handled everything poorly and unprofessionally.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Had an accident where I was hit in my car. My car was totalled and the other driver lied about what happened. They were not too helpful in helping me to get the documents I needed from police to prove I was not at fault. I probably wouldn't have gotten them if a friend hadn't told me what to do and would have been held 50% responsible. It was finally sorted and then some issues getting them to admit my car was totalled at first when they thought I was making a claim.

Desjardin advisors LIE and low ball settlements

by Jaein Chiem on Dec 14, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

Our vehicle was written off not at fault. Dejardin auto insurance advisors offered a settlement of $7500 dollars tax included. I asked them why so low. The multiple advisors said they can only find 2 to compare to our vehicle. They all clearly said "We payout based of off market value compared to what is available. I did a quick search online with the advisor over the phone and found the same model and make but the years were 1 year newer and 1 year older but the KM was 100k + more. The advisor said "You can't compare apples to oranges. You must compare apple to apple." Fair enough. I finally found 2 with 1) the same year 2) the same model 3) KM is a few thousand off. Priced at $12,500 + tax with $2900 under value. I reached out to Dejardin and guess what happens next? The advisor said "The appraiser compared our vehicle to a 2010 model and the max they can give us is $8000 + tax included" Does this sound like a fair settlement and paid based on market value? They are not fair and LIE to customers not at fault.

Desjardin Auto insurance accident claim nightmare!

by The General on Dec 5, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

I was involved in an accident where the other vehicle ran a red light and T-boned me. My auto insurance rate ends up almost doing in the price for an accident that was not my fault in no way. When I asked why and if they investigated the incident before raising my insurance they said it was not their responsibility and the other driver said they went through a green light so they blamed both parties and said it is not their responsibility to retrieve the red light footage proof, it's the customers' job to pay to have it retrieved for the investigation. I am so disappointed with the lack of professional service.

Poor service, not reliable

by Ray on Oct 21, 2022

I had two experiences with this company and both times disappointed.
Their advisors have no knowledge, and no experience, don't answer promptly to communications, try to cut the corners and don't cover the claim cost. The first claim took 5 months to finally a manager was contacted to resolve the issue partially. The claim adjuster didn't send the request to the manager and after 3 times of asking, finally found that she lied to me and never escalated my case!
They even don't trust their own appraisers and decline his claim estimate and try to do the minimum. They need a full overall to stay in business. I am leaving them because after years of paying high premiums when I had two claims both times found my money was wasted.
You will find their true nature when you need them.
