As with all group insurance, group disability is part of employer or association-sponsored benefits and are often bundled with other benefits such as life and health insurance. Employer-sponsored group disability insurance is only in force while you are employed by that company and is typically limited to 24 months (after which you must return to work in any occupation, even if it is a job you do not want or enjoy). The lower disability amounts are usually reflected in a “no evidence” maximum, meaning you do not need a medical to qualify. For higher coverage, a medical may be necessary.
