For many years I insured two antique automobiles with Intact. In 2008 they requested appraisals, which were done. The cars remained in storage without being driven since that time. A few days ago I was looking for the current pink cards/policy and was unable to find them. I phoned their agent, Brokerlink, in Edmonton to request a replacement. I was first advised that the policy had lapsed because I had not paid the invoice. I indicated that I had not received the invoice nor any indication of overdue payment. I was then advised that Intact had cancelled the policy because I had not gotten a new appraisal after 5 years. I was never advised that I had to have another appraisal done after 5 years. In spite of having my address, phone number, and email address neither Intact or Brokerlink saw fit to advise me in advance that my policy would not be renewed, and consequently I was left without insurance. Their behavior was totally and absolutely UNPROFESSIONAL. I am appalled that they would treat a long term customer who never had a claim in this fashion.
My rates kept rising every year, with no claims. After 5 years of getting ripped off, I decided to switch to another insurance company. I had both, auto and home policies. Save your money, do the same !
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
My 'car + home' insurance rate with Intact Insurance increased by 22.97% overnight when I received a renewal for the 2018-2019 period. I called my broker and was told that nothing can be done about it. I am reporting this to BBB, consumer protection agency and Financial Services Commission of Ontario. My total insurance premium for 'car + home' insurance 2017-2018 years was $2,213.15 and 2018-2019 'car + home' insurance statement shows $2,721.72 for the same insurance. I never had any accidents; no claims, no road tickets or any other factors that would cause my insurance to increase by 22.97% in one year. I have been insured with Intact for over 3 years and never missed a payment. I strongly recommend avoiding this company if you are looking for insurance and want to get a fair price.
Guess what! I was awarded a rebate for the Covid of 72$; then, at the renewal of my policy, the cost jumps up for the same amount as the Covid rebate! My policy now is over a 1K although I had no claims nor accidents and I have over 30 years experience!?!
Shame on you Intact Insurance!
I have been with intact insurance for about a year now, for at least 2-3 months of this year intact would take an extra 100 dollars over the monthly premium and when called, try to justify it for no reason. I have not submitted any claim or gotten any tickets in my entire driving history. Shame on them
This company is a joke. The MyDrive discounts is a scam. They say 20% discount and they only give 1 fourth of it because they calculate it as they wish. !0 years of clean record, zero accidents, zero speed tickets etc and my insurance keeps going up. My car's value is 8k and I am paying half the value of the car annually for this terrible company. I tried to get rid of all comprehensive etc and it only makes 40$ difference which means they are dedicated to screw people. I got many quotes with less than 170$ and I don't have to pay double that for this scam company. Can't wait for august.
I have a 20-year driving history with NO accidents or claims. They quoted me an amazing home + auto rate, contingent on my switching my license to a local Ontario license (I recently moved to the province for work). I purchased my vehicle, switched my license but when I went to start my insurance, my premiums were OVER DOUBLE! When I pressed them for details they said 'oh you were given a "rough quote", your actual payments may differ'. I expected a small variation, not 2x! I have spoken with at least 5 different people at Intact to try to clarify the issue, providing additional documentation, etc. and they refuse to change my rates. Their customer service response is slow, taking at least a day or two to get back to me. Worse, they have an absolutely awful cancellation policy where they don't refund you all your money (probably because they can't stand by their product and want to lock you into their substandard, expensive service). I would absolutely not use this company again, very disappointed.
So vehicle insurance is up for its yearly renewal during a pandemic. We were not driving anyways and didn't expect a decrease in premiums. So when we got the renewal to our shock, they increased premiums by 46 percent. I called the customer service to find out why the increase, since no accidents, violations and been with them for years. The representative was rude and gave a lame excuse about them raising rates due to the number of claims they received from everyone this past year. The representative also tried to state will not find new insurance or one that will take monthly payments right now. Hung up and called my broker. Advised broker they needed to find new coverage. The broker stated the same items the representative advised over the phone. I outright ask her if she gets a higher commission from Intact and how much of the brokerage firm that is under does Intact own. She tried to talk around it. I stated that much. I knew from past experience if a broker makes more from a company they will only push that companies product. I advised her to watch me. In twenty-five minutes new broker, new insurances cheaper rates than have been paying this previous year, monthly payments and more coverage. Stop using Intact and their brokers, especially when the firm is owned at a 50 percent share by Intact. It is about their bottom line. Not about their customers.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
The one page notice directs you to create an online account with a PIN provided by Intact. After two unsuccessful attempts to log on with their PIN, the form sat until our automatic renewal date, assuming the cost would be similar to last year. I found out thru my credit card account that Intact had raised our rates over 20% ...for no reason... no claims/tickets/late payments/etc...
Every partial payment notice comes with a different due date. In one, they tell me my next payment will be January 24th...then send a 'reminder' notice that my upcoming payment is due January 2nd. Awful customer service... terrible options to change anything. They are not looking out for the customer... but only for their own bottom line. Do yourself a favor and shop around for cheaper rates...because I GUARANTEE you INTACT INSURANCE will slowly creep their rates up without any notice or explanation.
They are pretty quick to let you know if you are a day late with a payment... and NEVER will send you a Thank You if you make a payment early. Give your money to a company that will care about you and your situation. I hear the Co-Operators is very customer service oriented. Actually, ANY other company would be a better choice. I am done with this insurance company when my plan ends... they will also lose any business from my children who will be driving in the next two years. I would give you a zero star rating if I could. Good riddance INTACT!
