Car Write-off

When I came to Canada I had great trouble finding car insurance that was affordable. I was quoted in excess of $3000 per year from many companies …for a second hand car that cost $2500. Finally I got in touch with Meloche Mennox, who happily accepted my 20 years non-claims history from my home country insurance company. Fast forward three years and my car is totalled on HWY 1…not at fault, black ice, walloped by another vehicle also hitting black ice. When I start the processing's I'm told they're sending me a claims form. I wait. And wait. The rental car I was given for 1 week get's returned. It's January and I'm still waiting. Another couple of weeks go by and nothing arrives. I call them and they say it was sent. I wait a few more days. I get angry. I call again. Then they finally communicate and say (matter of factly) it was sent via email. Email? To the wrong address. Anyway, I complete the form (which I had to print out anyway and it gets sent to them. I noticed when the claim is accepted and I get my insurance paid out - after about 8 weeks, the MM had also taken an insurance payment out of my account - after the date they'd accepted the claim and declared it a write-off.
Despite 7 months of calls to try and retrieve this over-payment, and despite every person I spoke with agreeing that this was their mistake - I got nothing. Only empty promises ...and lies upon lies. A paltry sum paid to me for years of loyalty and no claims. Go figure.
Fast forward a year. I also had my house insured by them and my mortgage from them. They hounded me relentlessly to buy more insurance. Every night for months I've get a call at 9pm. I told them about my car insurance fiasco - every single night. When my mortgage and house insurance was due for renewal - I took action with my dollars. Never trust them. Remember how they also refused to pay out after the flood disaster?
By the way …I'm writing this 10 years later. Never forget!!
Had insurance with TD Meloche Monnex for 4 years at the time of my no fault accident. Accident happened in September 2014, visited their third party four times for assesment and their result for all four times turned out to be the same. Other doctors have different information from what they have all the time. One example, my wrist was damaged in the accident, td third party claim it's soft tissue injuries, other doctors said something else other than soft tissue is wrong with it. Ultrasound now shows inflammation.
I always wonder why people complain that their insurance company treating them like criminals at the time of a claim, and now I understand. I over heard the doctors conversation, TD third party saying that "these patients don't understand that what information we give the insurance company, that's what they go by, we get paid anyways". The next time I write about this issue, I will be putting the name of the company. I had no problems with TD before my accident, now I can't even successfully complete my classes in university and get over 60%. Sometimes I can't even get off my bed, I can't sit for more than 25 min, I can't bend, can't lift anything, having pinches in my back and legs and arms getting num but yet I have soft tissue injuries. I cry everyday because of many reasons, I don't know what my life will be like as of now. This is my second winter from the time of the accident and my pain just seem to be getting worst. TD neny all my claims until I see their third party even though they get proof from professionals. TD would put everything thru if was dead with no question ask. Sometimes I really wonder if these ppl are actually human.
I never thought I would see TD like this, but they are just like any other insurance company and they get bigger and bigger everyday because of us, their customers. But why do they treat us the way they do? They are only defending money they don't give a shit about our wellbeing.
My car was involved in a not at fault accident on a Saturday around mid October so I called TD on the Monday to report it.........No one got back to me till Thursday (no biggie) but, this adjuster was simply terrible. After he initiated first contact, that was it. I was the one that had to chase him around and call and leave messages like 4 times a day to get any sort of update. He wouldn't call me and tell me what was going on. My car ended up being a total loss and was written off and scheduled for their salvage company to come pic it up. Again I had to call to find this out. It was actually the salvage company that contacted me to tell me they were coming to get my car (I was like huh???), no word from my adjuster. Then he goes on holiday but leaves to forwarding number. so for 2 weeks I was getting transferred around and getting "you have to talk to your adjuster" at the end of it all. I was able to get a rental around Halloween time however. Then I call in again to settle everything and by chance I talk to an adjuster who was nothing short of spectacular. What I have been trying to get done with my useless adjuster for a couple of weeks she was able to complete in a few minutes. My checks where issued out (I got 2, towing and car write off). I had to return the rental however on November 9th. Now enters a new phase of the war. All of this was settle with the wonderful random adjuster on November 5th, now my useless adjuster comes back from holiday. I could go on and on but long story short. Today is November 23 and even tho my write off check was issued on the 5th (18 days prior) I still have not received it and I get a different story every time. Most frequently they tell me that its still in the mail........I got the towing check on the 9th. How can two cheques issued the same day be so far delayed. In total since all this started I have been without a car for about a month. On top of it all the customer service was horrendous, I lack the capability to literate into words how bad this experience has been ......And here I thought this is the exactly reason we pay insurance. To be insured when these situations arise......Thank you TD. I don't care how much more expensive my next insurer is, as long as they are in no way connected to TD I will be happy
was at not fault accident, police didnt give ticket, but TD marked it as at fault accident. 10 times i kept calling their claims dept, all they wud do keep transferring me from one person to other..customer service extremely rude. Its just a blind hole where we keep giving money and get no return..HATE THEM..
I have been with TD Meloche Monnex for about 4 years, with one claim for hail damage a couple of years ago. The claim process was quick and straightforward. The car was written off and I was compensated fairly for the loss; they even waived the deductible. Overall I was quite happy with them. However, if you judged the scores on here, you'd never know! I suspect the score on here is heavily skewed by those with negative experiences... If you're reading this -- please do as I am doing now, and leave a review -- good or bad, it helps others out.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
The company uses low level adjusters who are based in Ontario. Their only interest seems to be closing files as quickly as possible rather than investigating cases. In my experience these adjusters have no interest in protecting you as a customer even though that's what you are paying for. Do you really want an accident in Alberta to be decided by an adjuster on the other side of the country? Stay away!
I can't imagine a worst customer service in my life. Claiming there is just a disastress experience. The last claim I made, I decided to pay the repair of my car from my own pocket and not waiting for their lack of sympathy to the customers like me after at least fifteen years of regular fidelity. Stay away !!
I had auto and home insurance with TD Meloche Monnex more then 6 years. During this period I claimed 4 times. Burglary claim, Car stolen, accident claim, Stone chip. I don't have any issue with them. Also my premium wasn't increased. Excellent customer service. All case was closed very fast. I am very satisfied with them. Few days ago I switched with Belairdirect. Because I got $35 less then TD. Also wasn't any hatchel to cancel my premium, not a single question for cancellation, even no plenty . I don't no how good is belairdirect yet. No claim yet. Anyway I will strongly recommended for TD. But if you are looking for cheap premium then Belairdirect.
Our daughter has had Meloche Monnex auto and car insurance for over 14 years. Last week her car was rear-ended by a snow removal dump truck and the car was totalled, according to the insurance adjuster. Luckily, she had minor injuries and whiplash, but was transported by ambulance to the hospital from the accident on the advice of the police. As she was not there when the car was removed and the police were finished, she was not able to get a copy of the police report at the time and must wait 10-14 days for it. Meloche will pay for a rental car only for 1 week, and that means she has no transportation. They expect her to drive ~40 miles to their office to pick up papers and the miniscule check they are providing for the loss of her car. They are paying only about 45% of the book value and have not provided any proof tat the damage is actually more extensive than the value of the car. Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever heard of. Do not, under any circumstances, get a policy with this firm. I have made it my crusade to make sure everyone I know is aware of their treatment. Won't help our daughter with the expense of her new car, but maybe someone else. We never know just how good or bad our insurance providers are until we need to claim. This firm is really rock bottom on the list. keep away!

I had my first ever experience with TD insurance in March/April 2016 (after being with them for about 7 years). I have mixed feelings about the process. We purchased the extra "Cost Replacement Solution" for our 2015 vehicle. That vehicle was written off in a not-at-fault accident, and TD provided (over the phone) the reimbursement cost of a new vehicle of the same model and trim level of the car we had. I had already done my research on the cost of a new car, so when it was quoted to me at about $6,000 less than expected I was flabbergasted. After a bit of pressing, I was e-mailed their report they received from our dealership. I was able to see by this we were being cheated by both the dealership and by TD. First, the report shows the cost of the car minus the incentives at the time (which is $3000 off if buying cash). We did not buy the car with cash - we were financing. Incentives for that is $1500 off. Also, for some reason, the salesman at the dealership offered the insurance company the price of the car without the dealer inflation. This is not a price any Joe Blow can walk in off the street and get by the way. Also, we did our own research and the trim level that we had on our car was now rare to find, and there were no colours left of what we wanted. We now had to look at a 2017 model which is even more money.
In the end after trying to get the value back that was equal to the car we just lost, we believe we received a fair deal. But it took a bunch of e-mails and phone calls to get this. All told, we're probably out $2000 on a $27,000 car.
The gentleman we spoke with was a nice enough fellow. I understand that he's trying to get the best deal for TD, but with enough pushing you can get more than the initial quote. Also, I didn't like how pushy TD was about when to return the rental vehicle. I needed a rental until I got a new car, and they were only willing to give me 2 business days. Luckily, we were able to get a new car, and approved for a loan before even paying the other loan off.
