There are only so many words I can use to describe my experience with TD Meloche. Slow, unresponsive and unhelpful. The folks in the claims department will never take your calls and never return your calls. I don't understand how their performance is measured because they never seem to do anything. Go else where, if your car gets totaled, you will be left stranded for months.
Worst company ever to have an auto insurance with. Hidden charges that they add up at the time of the cancellation that they have a hard time explaining !!! I paid my fees in advance and they are charging me 120 dollars as a cancellation fee and 108 dollars as a short-term notice fee? (and this is after giving one month of notice ) comparatively expensive rate. Warning: bad idea to go with them
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
I was with TD Meloche Monnex for just over a year (house and auto). When I first signed with them I was happy as the rate was the lowest I could find. $205/mth for auto and $98 for house. I got my G licence within this year and expected my rate to decrease since I had no accidents, no tickets, no claims and I got my full G licence. I got my renewals in the mail and I was shocked to see that my auto had increased over $1000 a year. Auto insurance was now $294 and home insurance was hiked up to $118 per year. I called to find out why, thinking this could only be a mistake. The person on the phone told me there was no explanation except maybe all rates had gone up. She tried to keep me as a customer by telling me that if I had winter tires I would get a huge discount. Once she told me what the discount was (a measly $160 a year or something stupid) I laughed. They increased my auto insurance over a year, but would now give me a discount for having winter tires of $168. laughable. I shopped around and found another company that is charging less than when I first started with TD. I was told by one broker that a trick TD uses to get customers is to offer them a much lower rate at first but then on renewal, they increase it to make up for the lower premium they offered you at the beginning. Scammers!
TD sent my renewal and then subsequent cancellation notice to an incorrect address after I moved. They had missed a digit when I called to let them know about the change of address. I didn't notice the payment hadn't come out of my account until they phoned 3.5 months later to check my address and tell me they had cancelled the policy a month ago. Not allowed to pay and renew without a 30-day application process and increased rate. Also tagged with Non-payment on my record. All of this could have been avoided with a phone call.
They suck - first year they keep the rates low and then they jack up the rates-- and even with no claims the rates go up-- and they brokers are self conceited and condescending.
When I came to Canada I had great trouble finding car insurance that was affordable. I was quoted in excess of $3000 per year from many companies …for a second hand car that cost $2500. Finally I got in touch with Meloche Mennox, who happily accepted my 20 years non-claims history from my home country insurance company. Fast forward three years and my car is totalled on HWY 1…not at fault, black ice, walloped by another vehicle also hitting black ice. When I start the processing's I'm told they're sending me a claims form. I wait. And wait. The rental car I was given for 1 week get's returned. It's January and I'm still waiting. Another couple of weeks go by and nothing arrives. I call them and they say it was sent. I wait a few more days. I get angry. I call again. Then they finally communicate and say (matter of factly) it was sent via email. Email? To the wrong address. Anyway, I complete the form (which I had to print out anyway and it gets sent to them. I noticed when the claim is accepted and I get my insurance paid out - after about 8 weeks, the MM had also taken an insurance payment out of my account - after the date they'd accepted the claim and declared it a write-off.
Despite 7 months of calls to try and retrieve this over-payment, and despite every person I spoke with agreeing that this was their mistake - I got nothing. Only empty promises ...and lies upon lies. A paltry sum paid to me for years of loyalty and no claims. Go figure.
Fast forward a year. I also had my house insured by them and my mortgage from them. They hounded me relentlessly to buy more insurance. Every night for months I've get a call at 9pm. I told them about my car insurance fiasco - every single night. When my mortgage and house insurance was due for renewal - I took action with my dollars. Never trust them. Remember how they also refused to pay out after the flood disaster?
By the way …I'm writing this 10 years later. Never forget!!
Have been a customer with TD since 1996, through University Alumni Program, both Auto and Home with no claims. Twenty years of being a customer and have I ever got a thank you. NO! But what I do get is ever increasing rates. University Alumni Programs with TD Monnex are such a SCAM! SCAM, SCAM, SCAM. Have started to shop around as I will be saying goodbye to TD as it is long overdue. TD = SCAM
We are with TD Meloche Monnex for last 8 years. We never had a claim, never got a ticket, luckily never had an accident. We also had house insurance with them from last year. I got G licence this year. As per our last conversation our insurance rate suppose to decrease for next year. But We are surprised to see that out rate increase 28/mo for next one yr. When I called they dont have any logical explanation. Even the guy on the phone are telling that there are no logical explanation why its gone up and he is sorry but he can not do anything about it. We have time to accept it or reject it after doing our own math.
This is how they are treating their loyal customer!!
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
Our daughter has had Meloche Monnex auto and car insurance for over 14 years. Last week her car was rear-ended by a snow removal dump truck and the car was totalled, according to the insurance adjuster. Luckily, she had minor injuries and whiplash, but was transported by ambulance to the hospital from the accident on the advice of the police. As she was not there when the car was removed and the police were finished, she was not able to get a copy of the police report at the time and must wait 10-14 days for it. Meloche will pay for a rental car only for 1 week, and that means she has no transportation. They expect her to drive ~40 miles to their office to pick up papers and the miniscule check they are providing for the loss of her car. They are paying only about 45% of the book value and have not provided any proof tat the damage is actually more extensive than the value of the car. Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever heard of. Do not, under any circumstances, get a policy with this firm. I have made it my crusade to make sure everyone I know is aware of their treatment. Won't help our daughter with the expense of her new car, but maybe someone else. We never know just how good or bad our insurance providers are until we need to claim. This firm is really rock bottom on the list. keep away!

This vehicle is a 2015 Subaru Forester XT pearl blue colour with only 9,300KM (approx. 5,600 miles) on it and it is in excellent condition other than the improperly done repair work.
The damage to the rear bumper cover caused by a hit and run, while the car was parked, was very minor but it required a replacement bumper cover due to the black textured portion being scuffed which, if that hadn't occurred, would not have needed a new bumper cover.
Took it to the "preferred shop" which painted the bumper cover the wrong shade of colour, it was too dark which was very noticeable and devalued the vehicle further and much greater than the accident damage cause. The vehicle was sent back to fix the problem but came back with the problem extended to both side's rear quarter panels by spraying them the colour of the improperly coloured rear bumper cover and there was overspray on the driver's side front and rear doors and the paint had orange peel. The vehicle was sent back to a different location of the "preferred" body shop which did a better paint job, no orange peel and the overspray problem was almost completely eliminated (there's still a little left) but the improper colour was extended even further along the sides of the rear of the car and, because of improper masking there's a line of paint forming a continuous line along the black portion of the bumper cover. Also, there's a stainless steel protection plate along the top of the rear bumper cover that was improperly installed, it has 3 places along the edge where it is puckered and not stuck to the bumper cover. As well, the rear mud flap on the passenger side is not tight against the rear side of the car at the wheel well. The bumper cover is not quite plumb with the tail lights, it is protruding a bit out on the passenger side under the tail light trim whereas on the other side it is slightly in under the tail light trim. That was the 3rd attempt to remediate the problem caused by the first repair attempt now they want to try a 4th time at a totally different body shop. We met the insurance company rep and the body shop owner and had a discussion but my wife and I have no confidence that the improperly painted repair will be remedied back to the OEM colour it should be. There's no guarantee that the paint colour of the repair will ever be done correctly, and there may be other problems such as described in the 3rd repair attempt or more than that. There's a lot more to this than what I've written but I can't deal with writing more about it. We are now dealing with the insurance company's customer service department but, considering what has occurred, we are not hopeful of a satisfactory resolution.
