RBC Insurance is underwritten by AVIVA. Been with Royal bank and Insurance for 20+ years. I received a letter today from AVIVA saying I needed to apply for my renewal and had to pay the premium in full in 45 days!!! Who has $5000 plus sitting around? Since it is RBC I deal with and they are not helping... I will be moving ALL my business from RBC and I have a lot of business with them.
I was with Aviva for one year - had no claims and a clean driving record, but no longer am because of the following. Their renewal process is needlessly complicated - they mailed me a renewal application in December, which I then had to mail back. Why the renewal isn't automatic like other insurance companies I don't know but I hadn't had any reason not to renew, so I dutifully sent back my completed application in January. I then got a phone call saying that my application was incomplete because I hadn't filled in N/A in 3 places! I thought it was ridiculous that I had to mail off an application in the first place, and that they couldn't just accept my verbal confirmation for N/A to be filled in. Keeping in mind that they take some time to process your application, and I got this phone call shortly before my insurance was about to expire, this seemed shady. In any case, I filled it out quickly and sent it again before expiration. I then had to call them 2 times to see what the progress was, waiting on hold for minimum 20 minutes each time, and they kept saying someone would call me the next day with a quote once it had been processed. No one ever did. I find it very unbelievable that I can get a quote by calling in if I am a new customer, but that they cannot give me a quote for renewal until the entire application had been processed. The third time I called I spoke to a lady who finally said that my renewal had been approved and that it had been mailed out. At this point, my insurance had expired, and this is when I found out what my quote was: $300 more than the previous year! She assured me I still had time to cancel before my card was charged, and did not mention anything about a cancellation fee. So I waited until I received the mailed out package and then called around and found a much more reasonable quote with TD ($450 less). I then called RBC back to cancel my renewal - at this point, the guy said that as my policy was already in effect, I would be charged a cancellation fee, plus the insurance for 2 weeks, which worked out to a whopping $291. This made me really upset because that is a lot of money for me. It was still cheaper to go with TD, so I still cancelled but I am really unhappy with Aviva's shady tactics. If it was this hard for a simple renewal, I am glad I never had any claims with them. Also, they have changed their policy so that you have to pay the entire premium upfront, which is a huge expense. Buyer beware and I hope my review has at least helped someone.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
I got quote for my car, my husband's car and house insurance from RBC. They were very nice when I called to set up the insurance. They gave me a quote which I was okay with. And after a week they sent me a letter telling they increased our insurance policy premium by $60 more than quoted just because I forgot to mention about a speeding ticket my husband got about 2 years back and they already charged that amount from my account without my permission or acceptance if I want to continue my insurance with them after increased premium. I called them right after getting the mail and explained everything to an insurance advisor. I told him I literally forgot about the ticket but I thought you guys will pull up the drivers abstract and will inform me if there are any changes. The guy told me he understands and I can cancel the insurance if I want but I should get insurance with a different company before cancelling so I don't have any lapse. I got my insurance with TD and called RBC back to cancel it. After cancelling all the insurance the guy tells me they will charge me almost 1 and a half month worth of insurance premium as a penalty fee for each insurance for cancelling it and I have no way other than paying for it. So I called TD back and explained again and they were generous enough to cancel my insurance with them without any penalty. Now I am stuck with RBC to pay $60 extra each month for 12 months coz I don't want to pay that big of a penalty fee. The advisor was not willing to help me in any way neither he would transfer me to anybody to help me out. Worst insurance company ever seen. First time dealing with RBC. Never again in life. Stay away from them.
Initially, good experience. Huge rate hike this fall when Aviva took over. Moved one vehicle to be insured in another province. Fees increased! But over $60 a month to cover the remaining vehicle. Was told several time when making enquirers that I could go elsewhere. I did. They have now charged me my month’s dues and a week later a similar amount in ‘fees’ for having canceled service. Huge rip-off. Asked to escalate to an ombudsman, they were to respond in 4 days. Haven’t heard a thing and now the fees were deducted. Can’t believe it.
I have got RBC auto and home insurance last year because I had RBC business, chequing and all my credit cards with RBC.I just want to point out there are no savings if you think u will save money by going with RBC. While I was on the phone in the whole conversation I wasn't told that the insurance is through AVIVA. RBC does not offer any insurance of their own. They offer AVIVA' s insurance. They can only be reached by phone, in case you have missed a payment they send u a letter traditionally instead of calling you or emailing you. Lately, I learned that you can not pause RBC Auto insurance if you are travelling to another country. You can only pause your insurance if you are travelling for more than 60 days. What's the probability of you travelling more than 60 days... VERY SLIM... It was really easy to pause the insurance with TD when I was with TD. They also charge you hefty NSF fee in case you missed a payment and no matter how hard you try, they will not reverse the NSF charge. I had much better experience with Intact or TD than RBC. Don't buy RBC insurance.
My Insurance went up 65% after ONE 5km/h over ticket. I have been fully G licensed for 4 years and got my first speeding ticket, my insurance when from 305$ a month to 470$ a month, my cars didn't change and my address stayed the same, its just shameful how they jack your rates up so much after one minor offence, never coming back to rbc
Couldn't cancel my policy!
Because my policy was also in my ex-wife's name - I wasn't able to cancel the policy even though the car had been sold for scrap and the plates had been returned to the ministry! They wouldn't stop the automatic withdrawals, even though I setup a new policy on a new vehicle the week before.
Be prepared to waste a lot of time, with a lot of aggravation dealing with this company!
I will be changing companies as soon as I can.
when I talked to the manager she even refused to give me any discount to keep client or to keep business I really disappointed, they took double payment and now I lost almost $ 280 with no valid reason
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
My niece's car was rear-ended last December 2016. When she got the police report, she wasn't at fault. The car that rear-ended her was under RBC Insurance. My niece has been calling and RBC Insurance since December and until now did not even bother answering her back. What a bunch of crooks!!! My niece was told by her insurance that she has to follow up with RBC because her insurance was not comprehensive. So to RBC... it's nice to collect monthly premiums but when it's pay time you try to run. What a bad insurance company you are!!!
So disappointed. Have been a loyal customer for years. Not one claim or missed payment. Now I have to reapply and submit my full yearly premium. Disappointed royal bank is not stopping this. So not cool to loyal customers. Looking for insurance today that treats their customer with value.
