Shame on RBC

by Doug on Nov 9, 2018
2 out of 5 stars

I was 7 years with RBC insurance, now RBC Aviva insurance, for both my home (paid policy in full upfront) every year, Auto Insurance & life. My expiration date had ended on my credit card used to make installment payments on auto policy only. So the payment went NSF. My yearly policy for auto had just renewed. Not knowing I was sent a letter stating your policy was cancelled in 15 days. Hoping to not have any interruption in service I offered to pay the policy premium in full (1 pay) as I do my house insurance & they still were unwilling to continue coverage. I have a clean driving record with zero claims ever. I was told by RBC that I would have to reapply and the only acceptable form is a written application, not over the phone, & it would take 3 to 4 weeks to reissue a policy. You see this was done by RBC Aviva so they can raise premiums. What a joke. Shame on Royal Bank of Canada for putting their name on this garbage business practice!!

Application Renewal

by averes on Nov 1, 2018

I have been with RBC auto insurance for 15 years. Aviva is sending out application forms to renew your insurance. I got mine registered mail on Friday and sent it the next business day, October 1st. RBC said it would take 2 weeks then said four weeks. It is now November 1st, almost 5 weeks later, and still nothing, and my insurance expires Nov 11, so now I need to start looking. RBC cannot even call them to see how it is going. What kind of broker is that? Also, no more monthly payments, which is fine, I can pay the full amount. I do not Recommend RBC auto to anyone anymore. I have sent at least 10 people to them and now telling them to get out while they can

Charlatans and con artists

They want everyone on higher upfront premiums and will lie and cheat to get you there. I had RBC Auto Insurance for five years. This year they sent me a letter requesting updated information. I phoned them and went through every section of the paperwork with one of their representatives to make sure it was completed to their satisfaction, then scanned and emailed it to them. They cancelled my auto insurance without notifying me, so when I found out, I phoned them and they claimed the paperwork had been incomplete. They never bothered to notify me of this despite having email, phone, and home addresses for me. I tried to renew with them, whereupon their operator informed me that they would no longer be accepting monthly payments on new applications. They refused to make any sort of accommodation for me despite their blatant mishandling of my information.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Cancelled policy

by Derek on Dec 13, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

I have never experienced ANYTHING like this. In the 20 years I have been driving, I have always had a good record and one accident where I was rear-ended by a kid. I was with AMA Insurance but the rates kept doubling and when I got a cancellation notice that my home was too old to insure, I moved to RBC. HUGE mistake. My insurance payments come out on the first, on a travel Visa I have. I transferred the payment and it was applied as funds available but the bank didn’t post the payment until the next banking day so the payment didn't go through. Since it’s a credit card, I assumed it would go through in a day or two. It didn’t. So after a few days I noticed the payment still hadn’t gone through so I called RBC and I was on hold, and on hold, and on hold. I tried for a few days to get through, and it was the 5th of December, when the payment should have gone through on Dec. 1st. The day after, registered letter, my insurance had been cancelled for non-payment. I don’t know what kind of outfit Aviva insurance is, but this is going to have a serious impact on my record for years. The policy is just cancelled. I can pay the policy for the year outright, but nope. Just cancelled for non-payment. I am beyond disgusted. If they are this with payments, I need to see what they are like if you actually had a claim. I’ll be filing a BBB report against them and leaving a review to warn others wherever I can.

Greedy & Demean their customer

by Texaco on Dec 6, 2018
2 out of 5 stars

They treat the customer like they are dull-witted. I called the customer service during the last month of insurance and told them I might not be with them the next year. They suggested me not to pay installment bc I had paid two months in the beginning (don't prepay the next policy). Today I try to call them to renew my policy.. they are telling me I missed a payment because I didn't prepay this year's insurance and are trying to charge me a late fee.. and keep on insisting that this is my fault. They suggested I don't have to prepay the next year's insurance and I have time to shop around before making the decision. The CS would keep repeating like a robot with a long explanation that it is my fault. And would not let me finish my reasoning. She treated me like a champ, who would be stupid enough to have paid them the fee and renew my policy with them... their greedy cash gripping police. I said No, and switched to Johnson, where their price and Customer Service is miles ahead of RBC

Renewal notice

by TM on Nov 28, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

Have been with RBC/ Aviva for two years now. Received a renewal notice where Aviva wants a new written application completed for the same and only vehicle I own. They also demanded payment for the annual premium upfront prior to insuring the vehicle. I called and asked why since I've never missed a payment or had any claims. Their response was some vague excuse that it's the underwriter's new policy because of changes to legislation. The Cooperators were more than happy to have my business.

Terrible service

Was on the road. Didn't know there was an issue with my bank and payments not going through. Instead of phoning like everyone else to tell me there is an issue, they cancel my policy and don't want me as a customer. Tell me they sent a letter I didn't get 'cause I was on the road working...now I can't get insurance. The guy I talked to was useless and even hung up on me...awful service and they completely screwed me over for something that wasn't my fault. Good job RBC. Way to keep it classy.

The worst customer service!!

by C Blake on Apr 22, 2015

I had been insured with rbc for about a year and been a client on the financial side for 10 years. My payments were coming out monthly on my credit card. Through the advice of my financial advisor I changed my credit card. I did not think to update the rbc insurance and my financial advisor did not mention it either. I had an investment property insured with rbc insurance as well. For whatever reason, my address of my investment was what they had as my address on my car insurance as well. Because of none payment, they were going to cancel my insurance. Apparently they sent 2 registered letters which my tenant says never arrived. They did not pick up the phone and call me or send me an email, both of which they had. They said some rubbish about legislation but please tell me where legislation says that good customer service should not be followed. I was in an accident about my policy was cancelled and now I am having to deal with the other insurance company myself. They are incredible difficult to deal with as I am not sure that they other person has filed a report with their insurance company. DO NOT HAVE RBC AS AN AUTO INSURANCE COMPANY, it's not worth it!!

Biggest Scammers

by Fedupwthscamners on Aug 16, 2014

I was stupid and switched to RBC 4yrs ago, I haven't fit one good thing to say about them be it horrible customer service constantly increasing rates, and they refuse to fix your vehicle properly even when I took it to their approved facility. Now they quote me a price then won't put full coverage until I took it for inspection, so after 6 weeks of the only 1 place that does this for RBC finally doing it, they double my deductible, double the cost, say they won't cover the rims or the stereo, and they will only pay half what the auction value is on the car!! I have multiple vehicles and multiple house policies, and now ill be taking it elsewhere!! Did I mention I have no tickets and only 2 claims in 20 years!!

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Avoid RBC save your sanity

We have been a loyal customer for years. They like to make a lot of mistakes. I made an inquiry for my brother in law for an auto quote. It was clear to the agent that the phone call was an inquiry. She put my brother in law on our insurance policy. After fighting and going back and forth they realize the agent was WRONG for putting him there. We had to prove he did not resign with us and he found another company to go with. We were blamed and told we purposely put him on our policy which we DID NOT and it was an inquiry quote. We still had to pay $100 extra on our monthly insurance. They gave us a $13 discount for the “in convince”. Now this recent incident got me furious. We were charged double payments. Now we cancelled our insurance thinking of switching but changed our minds about the new company we wanted to be with. We were uninsured for 2 weeks. Now our renewal is for August/September. Took off the insurance aug 14, reinstated it August 25. Upon being reinstated the representative told us that THEY will be collecting payment in 2 days (August 28) and be prepared to make a payment. We agreed and we were prepared for the payment. 3 days went by after the payment was “supposed” to come out of the account. THEY PAYMENT DID NOT COME OUT. We called back RBC and the representative said they payment is due September 30 of $338. (Nothing more nothing less) Shortly after we got out new renewal papers. On the payment schedule, I’ve notice June had 2 payments. (June 1 and June 30) We went away to Orlando last week of September/October. As of September, 30 RBC insurance took our $676 out of our account! While on vacation. Do you know the frustration they just caused us! And they claimed we owed them?!? Are you serious? Went back and forth numerous representatives that day. Representatives did not want us to talk to the supervisor. Kept giving us the runaround. Finally got a callback today. And clearly, nothing was resolved. The supervisor did not want to do anything. Did not want to investigate the situation nor wanted to hear the recording of what was conversed with us. We told the supervisor that’s false information they were giving us. And all she said was “oh well they will be retrained or they will lose their job” - how the fuck does that help? No representative told us double payment was coming out at all! Was not told anything. RBC told us that it “was too close” to take out payment. So why were we not aware of this? They just assumed. The money was in the account. No email, no letter no phone call. NOTHING just take take take money. DO NOT GO WITH RBC!
