RBC Pathetic Service

by Calgaryfrustrated123 on Dec 3, 2018
1.5 out of 5 stars

It's been said by many reviewers before this review, but to call RBC, even for a minor and quick change to your policy, and you're on hold for two hours. Their recording says, "We are experiencing a higher than normal call volume", well, guess what? It is not higher than normal, because that is normal. That recording has been in place for two years, and they have done zero to change that. Once you finally get through, to add a seasonal vehicle to the policy (i.e. an RV for the summer), which has been on the policy year after year, and they still take 30-40 minutes asking 1,001 questions about who resides in the home, vehicles used, distance travelled to work, etc. You cannot accomplish this task in 20 minutes, rather, expect three hours minimum with wait times, etc.

Renewal notice

by TM on Nov 28, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

Have been with RBC/ Aviva for two years now. Received a renewal notice where Aviva wants a new written application completed for the same and only vehicle I own. They also demanded payment for the annual premium upfront prior to insuring the vehicle. I called and asked why since I've never missed a payment or had any claims. Their response was some vague excuse that it's the underwriter's new policy because of changes to legislation. The Cooperators were more than happy to have my business.

Biggest Scammers

by Fedupwthscamners on Aug 16, 2014

I was stupid and switched to RBC 4yrs ago, I haven't fit one good thing to say about them be it horrible customer service constantly increasing rates, and they refuse to fix your vehicle properly even when I took it to their approved facility. Now they quote me a price then won't put full coverage until I took it for inspection, so after 6 weeks of the only 1 place that does this for RBC finally doing it, they double my deductible, double the cost, say they won't cover the rims or the stereo, and they will only pay half what the auction value is on the car!! I have multiple vehicles and multiple house policies, and now ill be taking it elsewhere!! Did I mention I have no tickets and only 2 claims in 20 years!!

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Very unprofessional

RBC rep called me regarding excluded driver form that we had signed with an exception. They did not like what I had written and said that If i did not re-sign form they could cancel my ins. Spoke to a supervisor who promised to look into the matter and get back to us in writing - on yes they certainly did-
to advise my car insurance is being cancelled as quote" the risk has changed materially". Whatever this means - I have no idea.

Very disapointed to be treated this way - they certainly do not want my business.

EXPERIENCE MADE ME CRAZY

by commonproblem on Aug 29, 2019

I feel I have to advise of an unacceptable situation with RBC insurance agents who were representing AVIVA.. It all started with the documents sent by AVIVA requesting a totally new application for auto insurance on our three vehicles. We felt the information was already on file with RBC and seemed redundant to redo the form. We did fill out the pages that were relevant to us and scanned them to AVIVA. To our surprise we get a letter by Royal Mail stating that some info was missing; items were highlighted for our convenience. The letter arrived on FRIDAY, August 2nd, of the long weekend. To our surprise, it stated that we will have no coverage if the form is not returned prior to Aug 5th, which was a start holiday by the way. Why not a phone call or an email since the matter was time-sensitive? We immediately phoned the RBC number and were advised we could fix and scan the corrected pages back to AVIVA. Also to check on Saturday to ensure they received it. Please note at no time were we told to send all five pages. Called Saturday morning and were advised the forms were received but one box was not correct so please redo and scan THE PAGE; again no mention of sending five. He said since they received it before Aug 5th, we would get 14 days coverage while our forms were processed. Tuesday we phoned just to make sure all was okay but due to call volumes we chose not to wait for hours and to call Wednesday. Imagine our surprise when we were told there was no coverage and we would have to start from scratch; as if we had not been customers for almost twenty years. The supposed licensed agent said we did not send in the five pages so it had become a legal issue. Nothing could be done and we would have to wait for 30 days for our application to be processed. We were treated terribly and I felt the agents were very condescending in their tone and the fact they kept repeating the same phrases; probably reading from a script. We were lucky that we found another company that was more than willing to help us out and they did it with professionalism and speed. They also gave us a better price even though RBC brags they offer the best deals.

RBC Canceled my Auto insurance

by thumperqew on Oct 17, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

Had a 5,000 claim in 2015, in 2017 Aviva partnered with RBC as the underwriter and then they cancelled my insurance 1 month before my renewal!!! RBC said AVIVA sent me a re-application via snail mail (which I never received). Because I didn't "reapply within 2 weeks, they sent a "registered" letter informing me my policy is cancelled and they no longer want me as a customer. AFTER 15 years of being a customer, never missing a payment! No changes in my vehicles or driver rating. (They actually said they would NOT cancel my House insurance! LOL). BEWARE, Aviva now RUNS RBC insurance and the complaints line I called said they are targeting longtime customers and snuffing them out as most have a declining deductible clause (my $500 deductible was at $0 because of my 15 years of "Loyalty"), haha. They ACTUALLY said I qualify for the exact same coverage after the RBC agent issued me a quote and I would have NO lapse in coverage, HOWEVER, there would be $150 rate hike and I would lose all accrued loyalty benefits such as my declining deductible, which was at $0, so re-set to $500. RBC's bait and switch predatory practices are despicable, I don't believe they ever mailed me any re-application/renewal forms and obviously by not emailing me or calling me to notify me about pending policy cancelation (they had my email and home phone number on file for years) they obviously targeted me and are looking to get rid of long-term customers. The RBC insurance Rep apologized for AVIVA's unscrupulous corporate tactics as this is new to RBC, she sounded embarrassed after admitting she is getting multiple calls from longtime customers with similar complaints. Note RBC does not target new customers, within the last 2 years, rather longtime loyal customers they want to get rid of. Good luck RBC, I'm lodging a complaint with the Ontario Insurance Ombudsman and notifying my Union, my workplace as well as my friends and family to steer clear of RBC! AVOID the renewal cancellation hassle by RBC auto insurance.

Cancelling Policy

by Frustrated on Jun 26, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

Couldn't cancel my policy!

Because my policy was also in my ex-wife's name - I wasn't able to cancel the policy even though the car had been sold for scrap and the plates had been returned to the ministry! They wouldn't stop the automatic withdrawals, even though I setup a new policy on a new vehicle the week before.

Be prepared to waste a lot of time, with a lot of aggravation dealing with this company!

I will be changing companies as soon as I can.

No product for you

by Brandon M on Apr 27, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

Customer for a number of years here, called in to add a second vehicle to my policy and waited in their queue for an hour and a half, only to have another hour and a half of my time wasted talking to an outsourced call centre to be denied adding the vehicle purchased simply to go to work with and occasionally bring materials home in to the policy. Mentioned I might occasionally use it to move a few pieces of lumber at work around to make my life easier but mainly to bring material home for personal use and they told me they don't have a "product" to cover that and because I will carry lumber in it, they won't insure the truck. How do you not have a "product" to cover a secondary vehicle (multi vehicle discount) because I might throw a 2x4 in it? Ridiculous reasoning, very poor explanation of the reason for denial and incompetent underwriter to deny an addition because of personal use of a vehicle. Cancelled my insurance with them immediately and am switching to someone who is competent and doesn't waste three hours of my time for nothing. Avoid them at all costs if you use your vehicle at work, or use a pick-up truck for its intended purpose.

Insensitive Company!

by Christine on Apr 22, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

I had RBC since 2013. I called in to change my address and at that time divulged that I was likely going to be living with a licensed driver. However, this never ended up happening due to severe relationship issues with my ex (abuse). I informed RBC that my ex never ended up moving or living with us, but it's like they didn't believe me. What ended up happening is that this company demanded (threatened) that I contact my abusive ex to get his drivers license number and insurance policy number or my insurance couldn't be renewed. I spoke with a Team Lead, and frankly, they didn't care. They gave me until May 1st to track down my ex or my insurance would be cancelled. How an insurance company can put a woman at risk, demanding contact with someone who threatens my health and safety is incomprehensible to me. At the end of my phone call with a Team Lead (Lativia), she had the nerve to say "Thank you for being with RBC for so long". There are so many other insurance companies out there who are more customer oriented. My advice? Stay far away from RBC. Most of their advisors are also fresh out of schooling, really inexperienced. Very dissatisfied with my overall experience with this company. I've since located a new company who has given me a cheaper deductible (half of what RBC charged me) and I'm also getting home & auto for $13.00 cheaper (per month) than my monthly RBC auto quote. RBC cancelled a client who has had no accidents, charges or claims in the three years I was with them. Way to go RBC! Thank you for your so called "incredible" customer service and "outstanding insurance"...what a joke! Thank you for potentially placing me into a threatening situation, all so u can write my exs info on my file notes.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

collision not at fault

by super upset on Mar 25, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

So long story short. I've been with RBC Insurance for years now and the first collision I had ( not my fault, some one ran a stop sign and hit me dead on) they are playing games. The adjuster came and evaluated my vehicle. They evaluates using used and after market parts and this was only brought to my attention when the auto body shop guy told me. I called them up and apprently if your vehicle is driven over 22000km rbc will put aftermarket or used part in. I drive a new volkeswegan suv and have a lot of km but still I don't deserve aftermarket part. The estimate they provided was around $7300 but with original volkeswegan parts it's a little over $10,000. There telling me if I want original parts I will need to pay out of my pocket.
oh and this is recent incase you wondering. Like within 2 weeks.

This is by far the worst auto insurance company with the worst customer service.

DO NOT USE.. NOT RECOMMENDED! !!!
