Cancellation policy

by krish on Dec 27, 2018

After completing 1 year, they increased my premium by 120$ and I didn't have any claims. When I cancelled, they charged me 420$. It really sucks. Worst company

Cancelled policy

by Derek on Dec 13, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

I have never experienced ANYTHING like this. In the 20 years I have been driving, I have always had a good record and one accident where I was rear-ended by a kid. I was with AMA Insurance but the rates kept doubling and when I got a cancellation notice that my home was too old to insure, I moved to RBC. HUGE mistake. My insurance payments come out on the first, on a travel Visa I have. I transferred the payment and it was applied as funds available but the bank didn’t post the payment until the next banking day so the payment didn't go through. Since it’s a credit card, I assumed it would go through in a day or two. It didn’t. So after a few days I noticed the payment still hadn’t gone through so I called RBC and I was on hold, and on hold, and on hold. I tried for a few days to get through, and it was the 5th of December, when the payment should have gone through on Dec. 1st. The day after, registered letter, my insurance had been cancelled for non-payment. I don’t know what kind of outfit Aviva insurance is, but this is going to have a serious impact on my record for years. The policy is just cancelled. I can pay the policy for the year outright, but nope. Just cancelled for non-payment. I am beyond disgusted. If they are this with payments, I need to see what they are like if you actually had a claim. I’ll be filing a BBB report against them and leaving a review to warn others wherever I can.

Terrible service

by seres.ted on Dec 12, 2018

Once RBC crawled into bed with Aviva, the service became poor. During a postal strike, they wanted me to submit all my vehicle information to them, which they already had on file. If it wasn't in by a certain date, they would cancel my policy. That is exactly what happened. No consideration for the postal strike. We had no claims. If this is how they treat good customers, I shudder to think how they treat someone with a claim. Stay away!!

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Terrible service

Was on the road. Didn't know there was an issue with my bank and payments not going through. Instead of phoning like everyone else to tell me there is an issue, they cancel my policy and don't want me as a customer. Tell me they sent a letter I didn't get 'cause I was on the road working...now I can't get insurance. The guy I talked to was useless and even hung up on me...awful service and they completely screwed me over for something that wasn't my fault. Good job RBC. Way to keep it classy.

Shame on RBC

by Doug on Nov 9, 2018
2 out of 5 stars

I was 7 years with RBC insurance, now RBC Aviva insurance, for both my home (paid policy in full upfront) every year, Auto Insurance & life. My expiration date had ended on my credit card used to make installment payments on auto policy only. So the payment went NSF. My yearly policy for auto had just renewed. Not knowing I was sent a letter stating your policy was cancelled in 15 days. Hoping to not have any interruption in service I offered to pay the policy premium in full (1 pay) as I do my house insurance & they still were unwilling to continue coverage. I have a clean driving record with zero claims ever. I was told by RBC that I would have to reapply and the only acceptable form is a written application, not over the phone, & it would take 3 to 4 weeks to reissue a policy. You see this was done by RBC Aviva so they can raise premiums. What a joke. Shame on Royal Bank of Canada for putting their name on this garbage business practice!!

RBC & Aviva, they don't care.

I have been a customer with RBC insurance for over 10 years. I will not be renewing my auto policy with RBC because of the lengthy wait times and the incompetence that I have experienced when dealing with their agents. I recently had to deal with RBC insurance over a small auto insurance claim and the whole process was extremely painful. For example, I was informed to wait for an adjuster to call me but the adjuster never did call the number I provided. Called again and left a new number and again no return phone call. The adjustor decided to leave a message at my home number in spite of me reminding RBC insurance agents several times that we were away during the summer. Very poor communication skills. Unfortunately, RBC insurance has gone downhill since Aviva came into the picture. I don't remember having lengthy wait times in previous years when contacting RBC, when changing vehicles, etc.. It now takes over an hour each time. This was a major problem when asked to fill out some forms Aviva required as the agents are never available for help within a reasonable time. The required paperwork also asked very obscure questions such as the weight and how many cylinders for each vehicle that even the RBC agent could not help me answer. When asked about the total of my last claim, again the RBC agent could not give me that information because he had yet to receive it from Aviva although the accident happened three months prior. Again, very poor communication. I also encountered a problem when trying to send Aviva some insurance renewal forms before the deadline. In spite of calling Aviva customer service directly to forward the paperwork, their agent gave me the wrong email address. As a result, Aviva cancelled my policy when the application was not received on time. By the way, my family and I have been responsible customers with RBC for over 10 years. My claim was around six thousand dollars with no prior tickets or convictions within our family. The RBC agent gave me some fabricated excuse that I was at fault because I should have gotten the correct email address from him and not the Aviva agent in spite of having the original email as proof that the paperwork was indeed sent on time to their "Aviva Care Centre" general mailbox. Unbelievable! Perhaps they should rename their general mailbox "Aviva No Care Centre" as they definitely do not care about their customers. The RBC agent politely replied that I could reapply for their auto insurance as a new customer, that I would have to resubmit all of the forms, and that the whole process would take approximately two to three weeks. I replied, "No thank you".

Shamelessly greedy company!

This company is the most greedy, ridiculous, and disgusting insurance provider ever! I moved out of Canada and needed to cancel my auto policy. They won't refund me the full extra month I already paid, "because I cancel before the expiration date". How can I keep the insurance policy if I moved out of Canada??? Even after I provided my insurance proof in the U.S., they still refuse to refund me the extra month. Shameless greed

RBC Canceled my Auto insurance

by thumperqew on Oct 17, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

Had a 5,000 claim in 2015, in 2017 Aviva partnered with RBC as the underwriter and then they cancelled my insurance 1 month before my renewal!!! RBC said AVIVA sent me a re-application via snail mail (which I never received). Because I didn't "reapply within 2 weeks, they sent a "registered" letter informing me my policy is cancelled and they no longer want me as a customer. AFTER 15 years of being a customer, never missing a payment! No changes in my vehicles or driver rating. (They actually said they would NOT cancel my House insurance! LOL). BEWARE, Aviva now RUNS RBC insurance and the complaints line I called said they are targeting longtime customers and snuffing them out as most have a declining deductible clause (my $500 deductible was at $0 because of my 15 years of "Loyalty"), haha. They ACTUALLY said I qualify for the exact same coverage after the RBC agent issued me a quote and I would have NO lapse in coverage, HOWEVER, there would be $150 rate hike and I would lose all accrued loyalty benefits such as my declining deductible, which was at $0, so re-set to $500. RBC's bait and switch predatory practices are despicable, I don't believe they ever mailed me any re-application/renewal forms and obviously by not emailing me or calling me to notify me about pending policy cancelation (they had my email and home phone number on file for years) they obviously targeted me and are looking to get rid of long-term customers. The RBC insurance Rep apologized for AVIVA's unscrupulous corporate tactics as this is new to RBC, she sounded embarrassed after admitting she is getting multiple calls from longtime customers with similar complaints. Note RBC does not target new customers, within the last 2 years, rather longtime loyal customers they want to get rid of. Good luck RBC, I'm lodging a complaint with the Ontario Insurance Ombudsman and notifying my Union, my workplace as well as my friends and family to steer clear of RBC! AVOID the renewal cancellation hassle by RBC auto insurance.

atrocious wait times

by charlee on Jun 7, 2018

Wait times to speak exceed 90 mins now..once connected, service is okay. Offered apologies for sending renewal late by 10 days but if I am late by 1 day, I will have to pay cancellation fees. No apologies excepted. With RBC for last 8 years but it has gone down into sewer now. Time to throw them out just for making me wait 90 mins on phone every time you call.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Avoid at all cost!

Customer service is a joke, had to wait on hold each time between 1 and 2 hours! Once I actually get to speak to someone, they were completely incompetent and unhelpful. Tried to get an RV trailer insured, they claimed that they could not insure it unless I could guarantee that I would park it in a secure location (fenced, alarmed yard did not count as such, apparently). Their suggestion was to rent a garage for our camper! Seriously? After a week and several frustrating conversations, we went to a different broker, got insurance for our trailer in about 15 minutes, no hassle. After this experience, we cancelled our home and auto policies with RBC, as after a bit of research we also found we were overpaying by about $1200/year but were told we were being charged $350 in penalty for early cancellation of policy... Smells like a scam? Yeah, feels like we got scammed, too. Learned our lesson, glad to be rid of them
