I was backing up a friends car, bumped into MY car, caused $2500 in damage. Rbc insurance said my friend's insurance should pay because it was his car. I was driving his car, it was MY FAULT but an accident. My insurance should pay not his. I have to pay out of my pocket. No way I'm going to get my friend's insurance to pay so HIS rates go up when it was totally my fault. I should have lied and said that I was clipped in a parking lot by a car that took off. They would've paid then. Rule #1 don't tell the truth!!
Went with RBC as I heard people talk bout great experience on car claims. Ive never had one but have heard it can be a nightmare. Since I bank with RBC I though why not and got a quote. It was $100 a year more than other quotes but decided to go with it. Then year 2 it increased 10% a year and then year 3 went up another 15%. I could not believe this. Went and called a broker and saved $1200 a year. Bye Bye RBC I will never make that mistake again.

facts.
- 30 yo male, driving since 16
- no tickets/accidents/claims
- occasional driver (employer 1-2km away so no commute, I'm biking or walking)
- best neighborhood in the city
- 2 yo car
Premium quoted is half the liability coverage and TWICE the premium of TD.
Is that the best you can do RBC?
When I was almost killed in a multi car collision I cannot say enough good things about the way RBC handled my claim.
I had hit and run accident. They fixed my car and gave me the rental car till my car got fixed , the procedure was very easy to deal with.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
One negative experience when getting a quote. The rep did not understand my request and made several calls to underwriting. Because of this underwriting quoted me too high and put the onus on me to fill out a new application to get my rate lowered. Really frustrating. Positive claim experience. Wrote off my 2 year old car. Found out I had a portion of my policy which allowed me to get the value of the car as if was new. Everyone was very transparent and easy to deal with every step of the way.
They were best priced but after a few years, their rates increased and so I switched to CAA.
After getting quotes from numerous companies, I rate RBC as the worst. They interrogated me for 2 hours with questions no other company asked. At the end, they asked for LOE from the last insurance company and wouldn’t even finish the quote with a price until they got it. I’m so disappointed that I’m going to cancel my house insurance with them.
RBC insurance have completely destroyed my ability to have car insurance because of their dishonest practices. They claimed that I had two at felt accidents in a period of 6 years. In my very first accident ever, a large rock fell from a moving truck that was in a parallel 3 cars ahead of me. It came flying at high speed thankfully under my car and damaged the exhaust. They never told me that this was an at fault accident. 2 years later I had to go to a critical doctor's appointment and a flash snowstorm started on my way home. There were cars illegally parked on the road and a truck came speeding by me. As I tried to correct, I hit some ice and gently tapped an illegally parked car. I reported this claim knowing that I would be held responsible, and it was just unfortunate circumstances. However, I never imagined that that would get me blacklisted for car insurance unless I want to pay $1,000 a month in high risk insurance. I can't begin to explain how damaging this is for my family, and I am so devastated. These people have absolutely no moral compass. I was a customer for 15 years.
I don't know how RBC insurance hasn't upset all their customers and sent them running for the hills. My boyfriend and I have been living together for 9 months. He had to make a hail claim with RBC and somehow ended up mentioning that we live together. The claims agent advised him that he add me to his insurance policy or they would not cover an accident if I was driving. A few weeks later he received a letter in the mail from RBC stating they had tried to call him and he had not returned their call. If he didn't call them back, they may cancel his insurance. He had not received a voicemail from them. He called them back and i t turns out they are going to cancel his insurance if he doesn't add me. They assure him it will cost nothing extra. Now they want my drivers license nhmber , insurance information, full driving history, vehicle information. That is ridiculous! I'm insured with TD and I have advised them I live with my boyfriend and they never put me through anything like this! Unfortunately my boyfriend is in the middle of a claim or he would be leaving RBC over this bullsjit!
