I asked them for a COVID discount today (for my mother) and they will only base it on starting moving forward. Nobody knows how long this will last... And who knew from the beginning how long it will last? No one from Belair ever reached out to her. She drives 2,500 km's per year. At the same time, they are trying to upsell her on the very same call: Car Accident Forgiveness, Roadside Assistance, Car Rental if not her fault???? Calling for COVID discount and they are trying to get more money from a senior citizen during this epidemic?!? Really sad and desperate on their part. They are offering an $18 per month discount. My insurance company sent me a cheque for 25% of my monthly policy and not 1 call was made. Just a letter in the mail with a cheque. I hope Belair is one of those companies that will need a trustee due to this pandemic...all to do with greed. Tomorrow we start looking for a new home and car insurance The best part...they keep $300 for a cancellation fee. STAY AWAY from Belair.
I had this insurance since last October 2017. I'm 75 years old, English is my second language. I asked for a full coverage car insurance and they took advantage of my language, I'm paying 296$ monthly. I recently had an accident. After the accident I realized that I'm paying for 1 way insurance, and I talked to my friend, he said that he had the same problem with them but he fixed it before anything happened to him, and they said that I'm at fault and they closed my claim file without contacting my accident witnesses, and I asked them to do that and they said they will not calling them for no reason. They took advantage of my English, my name and my age.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
I've been a driver since 1968. I had 2 accidents (minor) - one in 1970 and one in 1972. Not one since. I joined "Grey Power" because they offered decent prices for older drivers with good driving records. I was satisfied with them for several years and then Belairdirect took over. The good rates continued (I have a Mercedes and a Porsche Cayenne) both cars are over 10 years old and well-maintained. This year there was a 40% increase in rates and being a trusting, old fool I didn't notice the increase for 3 months. I know they have to pay for the guy in the suit of armour telling us on television how great Belairdirect is... to me they are dismal thieves. I am changing companies and advise others to keep on shopping! Belairdirect is a horrible choice - I don't think my experience is unique.
I recently completed an online quote with Belair. The original quote was a bit lower than the other insurers, however, after 2 weeks of calls and request for more information, the rate doubled. I am a senior who drives a modest amount in a year and have a clean driving record. At this point, I contacted an All State agent. Within 45 minutes I had a lower quote and new insurance certificate emailed to me.

My Albertan Car Insurance renewal premium increased by 9% for 2020-2021 - this when I had no claims in 2019 (minor one in 2018), plus I recently retired (so no driving to work), plus my wife (retired nurse) and I are now on a fixed pensionable income), plus I changed from high risk, downtown condo address with monthly break-ins to a garaged, suburban residential address - and all this when Alberta has suffered severe economic downturn due to collapse in oil price, plus COVID/pandemic economic hardship and massive job losses across Canada... So despite this, my car insurance premium INCREASED by 9%. I phoned to query and wasn't given a satisfactory explanation or justification. I will definitely move insurance companies. Price gouging for seniors nor appreciated.
